What did you think about the deletion notice you received?

edit

Hi Nicksaltr, You recently received a message about either "Nomination for deletion" or "Proposed deletion" of an article you created. I'd like to ask you a few quick questions:

  1. Was the message helpful? Were the instructions clear and easy to follow?
  2. If not, how do you think the message could be improved?
  3. What do you think about the deletion process in general? Do you understand how to contest a deletion?

You can feel free to answer on my talk page or send me your response by email (mpinchuk wikimedia.org). (I won't quote you or link your answers to your username if you don't feel comfortable with that.) Your feedback is incredibly useful for improving the content of deletion notifications, so please take a minute to think about and answer these questions. Thank you! Request on 11:44:28, 13 February 2018 for assistance on AfC submission by Nicksaltr

I am a new contributor and was planning to write about start-up companies that have become successful. I want to give my unbiased content about such companies based on my research. Please check this draft [[1]] and let me know what mistakes I have made and how to make it look neutral. I have found companies like square yards which is much smaller having a Wikipedia page. Nicksaltr (talk) 11:44, 13 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Nicksaltr, a good first step would probably be to disclose any conflict of interest you have in relation to this or any other topic that you've written about in Wikipedia. Your next step would have been to remove all promotional language and content from the draft (which, as I recall, was most of it). However, I see that the page has been speedily deleted as G11, "unambiguous advertising or promotion", so that is no longer necessary. I suggest you clock up a good number of edits (say, a thousand or two), making small improvements to existing articles where you have no COI, before you try your hand at creating one yourself – that is nowhere near as easy as you might think. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 16:03, 13 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
Justlettersandnumbers; I have no COI with this company. I created the draft to see if I get help from experienced writers. I will work on articles where I think I can contribute by editing. I dont understand why a draft is deleted even though it is not published. Is there a way where I can create a draft where I get help from other experienced writers?

Nicksaltr (talk) 06:59, 14 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Nicksaltr, I'm not familiar with the whole history of this particular article/draft, and can't now look at it because it's been deleted; the version of the draft that I declined was unacceptably promotional. In general, you should be able to work on a draft in your own time, and ask for help as needed, as long as you avoid WP:copyright violation and WP:promotion, neither of which is permitted anywhere in Wikipedia. A little higher up this page I left you an invitation to the Teahouse. That would be a good place to ask for advice on how to get started, and perhaps what to start on. It's a friendly place, aimed specifically at newer editors. Please give it a try! Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 11:42, 14 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
Justlettersandnumbers; Thanks a lot! You have been very helpful unlike some of the other guys here who thinks I have an agenda.
