Speedy deletion nomination of System Explorer
editA tag has been placed on System Explorer, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Hi Mistercz - Thank you for your message on my talk page about the article you created on System Explorer. The original reason why the article was nominated for deletion was because another editor believed it to be promotional or an advertisement, and believed that it would be impossible to re-write the article from that version to one which would meet our policies and guidelines. However, when I examined the article, I found that it was a copyright violation of the companies website, http://www.systemexplorer.net/, and deleted it as such, as you can see from the log.
Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously, and we cannot accept material copyrighted by others without permission. Please note that stating you are associated with the company, such as being an employee or owner, is not sufficient - there are some official procedures you must go through. However, if you are associated with the company, it is likely that you will have a conflict of interest, and it would be strongly advisable for you to wait for someone else to independently write an article about System Explorer. In either case, any article must meet our guidelines on notability and must include references from reliable sources. For example, has the product been written about in newspapers or magazines, or received substantial independent reviews?
I hope this information is useful; please let me know if there's anything I can help you with. --Kateshortforbob talk 09:23, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Mistercz - to reply to your question about copyright: there is a page on the Internet called systemexplorer.net, which has a copyright © notice on it. As far as Wikipedia is concerned, that means the person who wrote and owns that page has copyrighted it, and Wikipedia is not allowed to take copyrighted material without permission. Creating a article on Wikipedia, copying the System Explorer website, and saying, "It's okay, I'm the owner of the website" is not sufficient. We cannot know for sure that you are who you say you are - you could be anyone! As you have found, there are instructions at this page explaining how a copyright owner can give us permission.
- You are correct that there are a lot of rules at Wikipedia; it can sometimes be difficult to understand all of them at the beginning. For example, as you are the owner of System Explorer, it is strongly advised that you not create the article yourself, as you are likely to have conflict of interest. However, it is not forbidden to create the article, if you can write it in a neutral way, and provide reliable sources to show that the software is notable. Proving notability using reliable sources with references in the article is the best way to prevent an article being deleted.
- If you have any questions or need any help, please feel free to ask me. We also have a Help Desk which answers all kinds of questions about Wikipedia. --Kateshortforbob talk 12:43, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
