Novelists and Awards

edit

Yes, the list is interesting. I still have to get my head around Lists versus Categories - the value of each, ie what one offers versus the other, but it certainly is interesting to look at. It's easy to get distracted and waylaid isn't it?

Re the parent child issue and awards - I'll see if anyone else comments but it certainly appeals to me to do it that way. But then I'm keen on structure - I think good structure can help meaning, if you know what I mean! Sterry2607 12:46, 19 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Good stuff - maybe there is a list from somewhere else to work from? SatuSuro 13:15, 19 September 2007 (UTC) Just check my edit history to understand how bad it can get :( SatuSuro 13:25, 19 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes I noticed that too. Wrote an article on Gabrielle Lord, and I've read Peter Temple, but it's not an area of interest for me. Go for it! Sterry2607 03:58, 20 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the disambiguation link on the Blue iguana page. I'd been working on it so hard, I didn't think to check out all the wikilinks!--Mike Searson 06:03, 22 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi - Thanks for your kind words! I see from the edit history that I removed some entries that you had just put in. If you're convinced of the noteworthiness of any of them, feel free to restore them. When I see red-linked people listed, I'm more likely to leave them in if their description seems compelling, but I might get a little too "brave" about deleting at times. Happy editing... --Ken Gallager 13:08, 22 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Meredyth- Now I understand why you work at night. You are in Austrailia!. I hope you have enjoyed reading about the New England History. I am done with adding any citations(where those were requested) and have tried to list them next to request for citations as an internal link. I also found some very interesting stuff about the abolitionist movement so tweaked it a bit. Ever heard of Abby Kelley Foster? Added a one liner for her. She was a member of that Quaker community. Pretty cool. When you tidy up the article on Uxbridge Massachusetts for last time, you may want to peek at Colonel Seth Reed and Lydia Taft. Since those were historic noteables not otherwised mentioned in wikipedia, I went ahead and added them but obviously have not acquired the wonderful text editing, reference and footnoting skills you have. But then I am only a physician, not much of an editor! Thanks again for your help. kevin —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ksherin (talkcontribs) 21:22, 27 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Meredyth: I screwed up something on Uxbridge and need your help. Something went wrong with reference 18, and it added another reference. You will see it. I wasn't trying to add any references, just reordered a small section and used bullets and subheadings like you seemed to be doing. Not a big deal but just throws of reference list appearance, otherwise looks intact. thanks. Ksherin 03:21 UTC 04 October 2007

Hi again Meredyth: Yes, I need a sandpit page, but don't know how to set one up. What label to use to identify? what sequence commands? thanks. Kevin —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ksherin (talkcontribs) 12:24, 4 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

OK thanks Meredyth: I am starting to play in the sandbox. It will take a while. trying to figure out who Lydia Chapin's ancestors were by looking at Chapin Geneologies back in Mendon, Mass. Pretty thin sources again, but here are some Chapin's. Josiah and Seth are mentioned so far. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ksherin (talkcontribs) 01:42, 6 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi again Meredyth: I see that you have helped work on a number of items I have been involved with. I have gotten some more references for Lydia Taft. No doubt, the lady is a real person in history. If you want to check my text and references, I would be most appreciative. I think I am getting better, but of course can't be too objective about myself!. I see that you are one busy editor with all your "Aussie" colleagues!!. Thanks for helping this "Yank". Ksherin (talk 05:30, 8 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

My bad. I wasn't aware that the conservation was what you were DABing, I thought you were just doing a sentence cleanup while trying to fix the DAB for WWF, but was confused by the fact that you didn't change the link for WWF, but the displayed text. I'll make the necessary adjustment. Sorry TheHYPO 07:08, 9 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Date Format

edit

Hi Meredyth

Thanks for fixing the red links in the Isobelle Camody article. In my defence however I will point out that I didn't break the template with the changes I made because it was broken before I made them. Of course it would have been better to fix them rather than to change them from one broken format into another, but I didn't notice that they were broken at the time. Apologies for my carelessness.

You seem a little peeved though that I'm changing the dates in Australian articles from your preferred format, October 19, 2007, to my preferred format, 19 October 2007. I'm sorry if I've annoyed you, but, in fact, I'm simply changing them to the format described in the excellent Style Manual: For Authors, Editors and Printers, the de facto Australian standard. To see just how accepted this format has become, I searched for Australian style guides which recommend a format for dates. Below is the list I came up with before I got tired. All of them recommend my preferred format. I couldn't find a single manual that recommended your preferred format (if you know of one I'd like to see it).

So, just as there is a standard Australian spelling, there is also a standard Australian format for dates. Just as we use the standard Australian spelling in articles relating to Australia, we should also use the standard Australian format for dates in articles relating to Australia.

List of CBCA Awards

edit

I'm looking at List of CBCA Awards, and I was going to remove the redlink "For the list of awards made for each year, see: Children's Book of the Year Award Winners". But I thought I should check with you first, to see if the link should be changed to point somewhere else. Billgordon1099 (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 06:11, 14 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

HI Meredyth. I'm writing this from LAX. Sorry I didn't get to see you before we left but would love to catch up in the next week or so. We fly out of LAX tonight and get back to Canberra early afternoon Easter Saturday. Have had a ball over here. See you soon I hope. Cheers Sterry2607 (talk) 02:33, 21 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes, the week after next would be fine for me - at least I'm pretty sure. Let's get in touch closer to then. Woden is probably easier for me but I can be flexible. Hope you are having a restful easter and that the bruises and aches go soon. Sterry2607 (talk) 08:50, 22 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Order

edit

Suppose the page can be renamed to 'List of order topics',as it gives the impression of such a list, of general nature, rather than the more specific lists it refers to in places. Then the 'Order' page can be changed to a true disamb page. JMK (talk) 15:30, 29 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'll give it some thought and may proceed after I studied MOS:DAB. Will let you know, unless you start the changes. JMK (talk) 12:32, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

HI Meredyth...I sent an email to you at work the evening you went on leave, would you believe...and got your out of office message.
