Peer Review

Hi Lfountain,

Marlon Riggs is a very interesting individual. His work was really encouraging. He had a hard life growing up black and gay. Having to endure so much as a child should have put him on a road of destruction. Instead he used it to gain notoriety and his confidence in writing about such controversial issues. He also was an educator and taught college aged adults the importance of history, not only the history that we learn in school all of the time, but opening their minds to critically think about issues that they may have never known existed especially when he was teaching 30 years ago. I would have like to see more information on his death and the circumstances behind that. There isn't any information except for the date and place where he passed away. The citations seem to be reliable. There is a lot of information on his work. My artist Slava Mogutin had some of the same issues when he was growing up and trying to understand why he was discriminated against because of his sexual preference. He faced being persecuted for wanting to marry into a same sex marriage and it seems that Riggs may have felt persecuted in the eyes of his peers. This article really caught my attention and I want to learn more about Riggs in the future. The article is set up is great except for his death is a mystery for me.
