Novum

If you're going to create an article about Darko's neologism, you need to source it better, please. I'd forgotten the term ever existed. --Orange Mike | Talk 23:51, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

My apologies for neglecting the novum page after I created it. However, despite what you may have forgotten, I assure you that the "neologism" is quite commonly used in science fiction criticism -- in most issues of Science Fiction Studies, Extrapolation, etc. --Junius49 (talk) 16:45, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Marie Corelli

However, whilst I have no objection to the deletion of my efforts on Marie Corelli's behalf under the Legacy heading (and I point out I am a British writer, as was she, and that the original Legacy heading and entry was placed there by someone else - a Brit no doubt, the ) I would like to point out that my publications are not by vanity press publishers, and I am working on my article see and still building my career as a professional writer. For example, there is an —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gillhiscott (talkcontribs) 14:59, 8 July 2009 (UTC) Sorry - I am not particularly adept at wikipaedia, and am getting into a muddle with it again. Will sort it out later when I have time but am trying to point out that both Cressrelles and Jasper Publishing Ltd are bona fide British play publishers, who do not charge to publish and pay out to authors on royalties in the same manner as do Frenchs and other major publishers. (Gillhiscott (talk) 15:27, 8 July 2009 (UTC))

Phrases like "Both plays are published and remain available for performance" will send red-flags up for WP:COI, as I'm sure you know. I apologize that I misidentified Jasper as a vanity press. Still, I don't think either play meets Wikipedia's standards of notability. Was your adaptation of Vendetta reviewed? Are independent sources available online? I have fairly flexible standards of notability, so please do send me such links. And even if the Corelli adaptations are not notable as of yet, I hope they do find an audience. I've preserved your legacy paragraph under the Marie Corelli talk page. Cheers. --Junius49 (talk) 17:08, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Was my adaptation of Vendetta reviewed? - yes six times! two by British national press The Scotsman and The Stage. The Vendetta tour was performed by professionals with impressive TV and film credits. All of this I detailed on a user page I was working on with the aid of an administrator about myself but when I try to put the link here it doesn't seem to work. As you are interested in Marie Corelli I would like you to see it and have your opinion. I am well aware that the best way to ensure the Legacy entry stays is for there to be an article link to myself, but I have not yet put it up as I want to be certain it doesn't get deleted. I understood though that "notability" of an author can simply mean publication by a third party who is not a vanity publisher.(Gillhiscott (talk) 20:03, 8 July 2009 (UTC))

This should work - follow this link for the page I have been working on. User_talk:Gillhiscott/Gillian_HiscottConclusion was reached by others that I am probably a bit of a borderline case with regards notability but that it would be OK to go up if I could prove myself of local interest in my own region by quoting local press articles, which I have now done. As regards the Marie Corelli article if agreement on my notability as an author can't yet be reached then my opinion is that the whole Legacy heading should go. That an actor turned director (I am referring to Kamal Haasan) saying he was creating a film under inspiration from Vendetta is a ludicrous thing to be listed. There is no evidence at all that he is still doing it! I know more than one pro actor who has a go at directing on a small scale but that doesn't mean he should be noted for it unless the product has in itself some notability surely? Is Wikipaedia to be made up of the ideas and inspirations of famous people and not actualities? I have not signed this as logged on as it might have been conflicting with the user talk page somehow.

Your bio page is shaping up nicely! I'll be happy to add it back to the legacy section after you post your entry (with links to your bio page and citation of the reviews). I completely agree on the Haasan discussion, and I moved it as well to the talk page.--Junius49 (talk) 12:51, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Thanks - the page Gillian Hiscott has been put back to the main page by LessHeard. It was flagged twice and there is some discussion on the COI talkpage - if you'd care to read it and have anything to say please do. I have also put a note to this effect on the Marie Corelli discussion page. Its probably best to let the article settle in for a while What I really want is to ensure the reputation of Jasper Publishing who publish the Corelli adaptations in this. You were right to delete the Hassan entry. (Gillhiscott (talk) 15:20, 13 July 2009 (UTC))

Tar River

Would you please check my edit at Tar River. The new infobox had two errors displayed for the source_elevation and mouth_elevation. I can't see any documentation, but I gather those fields are for a number in meters. The page showed another error at the bottom: {{#coordinates:}}: cannot have more than one primary tag per page. My edit removed the {{coord}} at the bottom of the article. Please check if the coordinates are correct (I don't know where the values in the infobox came from). Johnuniq (talk) 05:03, 1 December 2016 (UTC)

@Johnuniq - thank you! I ran out of time trying to figure out the infobox. Thanks for fixing the meters/feet and the coordinates. The coordinates now match the suggested coordinates for rivers via WikiProject Rivers (the mouth of the river). It's a bit tricky in this case, but I'll take that discussion to the WikiProject.

2019 US Banknote Contest

  US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here
