Edit summaries please as a courtesy

edit

Hi there. When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field. If you are adding a section, please do not just keep the previous section's header in the Edit summary field – please fill in your new section's name instead. Thank you.--Charles (talk) 09:18, 2 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, but when you add or change content, as you did to the article Kasur, please cite a reliable source for your addition. This helps maintain our policy of verifiability. See Wikipedia:Citing sources for how to cite sources, and the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Pasting from other Wikipedia articles

edit

Hello, please note that we're not supposed to copy-paste content into an article without attribution, as it would be a copyright issue even if the source is a Wikipedia article. The relevant guideline is here. Thanks.

(And in this case, I think we should get the articles merged and make them redirects to the final page, whichever it is. I don't think copy-pasting is warranted here.) wctaiwan (talk) 11:01, 23 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

You appear to be copy and pasting content from various websites into articles. You are not allowed to do that. Please stop immediately. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 13:25, 23 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

I removed a large copyright violation at Government Post Graduate College Sahiwal. It appears that you took it from http://www.gpgcs.edu.pk/. Please help. We would be grateful if you would go through your edits and remove any other copy pastes you have done. Thank you. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 02:22, 24 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image File:Lums lahore logo.png

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Lums lahore logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 11:58, 27 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Please don't be discouraged

edit

Hello again. I just want to tell you that you make good edits. I had to remove the copy paste because Wikipedia is very serious about copyright violations. That was the only issue. Other than that, you are a good editor, and I encourage you to continue.

If there's anything I can do for you, please ask. Best wishes and happy editing, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 18:09, 4 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Your recent edits

edit

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You could also click on the signature button   or   located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when they said it. Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 07:27, 5 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

This is something that will get easier over time. And it won't be long until we have a cool new visual editor that will make it much easier to edit.

ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. For the Election committee, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 16:53, 24 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

edit

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:56, 20 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
