Jpbarrass,

Hey, I wanted to warn you that a user called "Patriotmissile" may intend to vandalize a page you have contributed to, Sungkyunkwan_University. I have had about all I can take of this user. Since I have only so many things I can do at once (and don't want to follow this particular person all over Wikipedia) maybe you should keep an eye on it. Thanks, Epthorn 15:44, 22 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

That's what only you guys dreamt about. Please don't distort others' intention.Patriotmissile 14:59, 25 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

No problem- I think the arguments that were occurring have cooled off, so hopefully everything will improve and the articles can be looked at by neutral parties. I think a lot of these pages could use some care to make them a little less like adverts. I'm not trying to get people to gang up on Patriotmissile because I think he was worried I was trying to attack the KU page, so he got a bit... defensive. I'm actually at KU, but I figure this rivalry should stay off WP as much as possible. Epthorn 02:00, 25 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Those cloud bridge photos you just uploaded are pretty cool! Have you thought about starting up a Commons account? That way you could use the same photo in the English, Korean, and all other Wikipedias. Just a thought... tiZom(2¢) 02:41, 25 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Unacceptable deletion

edit

I have added the contents with clear references originated from major news papers written by journalists, not by individual readers. I have no idea how you guys could remove them with a false charge on me. Please provide reasonable evidences when you delete contents protected by reliable references.Patriotmissile 14:59, 25 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sungkyunkwan spelling

edit

Dear JPBarrass, I understand your suggestion on this institute but the official Sungkyunkwan website [1] (not Sungkyunkwan university website) uses "Sungkyunkwan" as you can see it at the upper-left corner on its homepage. In my opinion, this might be confusing if "Seonggyungwan", your suggestion, is used because this organization has already used "Sungkyunkwan" for its official English name. How do you think of this? RE:Train Stations

edit

No problem, like I said I did it in good faith and I just thought the articles as they stand fit the criteria for deletion so I brought it up for discussion and consensus was reached!! So I was fine with it and I figure that at least this should bring the articles to someone who has more of an expertise in the subject to at least get them up to proper stub-class. And like I said I have no ill-will towards anyone, it was actually a pretty good debate, I just hope that everyone who worked hard to keep them goes and works hard to expand them. Thanks for your comments and good luck editing!

On a side note, if you want any help on adding content to these articles I am open to suggestions, the only thing is that I am in America so it is difficult to get proper sources about these types of subjects. So if you can provide some sources for some articles I am willing to help write them.

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

edit

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Would you consider contributing to Citizendium as well?

edit

Hello. Have you heard of a wiki project called Citizendium? I think that for half your energy and enthusiasm you could write and accomplish so much at Citizendium, where contributions are more permanent (and not ruined by others' edits), and there are very few disputes. Once an article is approved by editors, its approved version is locked and is shown over its draft page. It can be replaced only by a later approved version. Citizendium is meant to be cited, and contributors are credited because user accounts are real names. I don't think you would have issue with the real name policy because you revealed your name on your user page. (Chunbum Park (talk) 05:08, 2 October 2009 (UTC))Reply

File source problem with File:Haydarpasha train station istanbul - Recoloured.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading File:Haydarpasha train station istanbul - Recoloured.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Orphaned non-free media (File:Eastar Jet Logo.png)

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Eastar Jet Logo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Werieth (talk) 11:16, 27 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Jason Staggie

edit

The article Jason Staggie has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Recently-debuted author, and while his debut work has evidently met with some acclaim (as evidenced by the sources), this person does not meet WP:AUTHOR. Additionally, WP:BLP1E may apply given he seems to only have one released work.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. —/Mendaliv//Δ's/ 21:47, 4 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

A friendly invitation..

edit
Hello, this is just a friendly invitation. There is a discussion about the Seoul Metropolitan Subway going on at List of metro systems' talk page, where editors are basically trying to split Seoul Metropolitan Subway and list them by operator (which would be Seoul Metro, SMRT, Korail, Line 9, Sinbundang, Incheon and so on) which of course as daily users of the metropolitan subway, we know they're officially listed and defined as a single system. Since you seem to have great experience with Korean Wiki articles, I would appreciate your input on List of metro systems talk page under the section of "Metro system with the largest number of stations", where editors are essentially discussing about Seoul. 182.227.128.12 (talk) 16:24, 20 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

edit

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Issue in article "Jangan-gu"

edit

Hello! I was trying to clean up issues found by Typo team moss and in the article Jangan-gu, there is a questioned word that originated from an edit you apparently made on 11 November 2013. You added a "food and drink" section, and there you used the word "donkas". Although this word is to be displayed as "donkas", you set it to hyperlink to the Wikipedia article "tonkatsu".

I'd like to clear up this issue as far as the Typo team is concerned. I don't know why you chose two different words, one to display and the other as a link, but can I assume that these are both Korean words? If so, I'll add a tag noting that "donkas" is a Korean word. Alternatively, does it make more sense just to display and link the same word: "tonkatsu"? (And then I could add a tag noting that "tonkatsu" is a Korean word.) An article you recently created, Suwon Hyanggyo, is not suitable as written to remain published. I understand your point about it's age, but you still need to show that through in-depth coverage from independent, reliable sources. It should have at least three, to be safe, and right now it doesn't have any.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.Onel5969 TT me 10:25, 25 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

File:Roborovski - Normalised.jpg

edit

Hi! This file is used on id.wiki and I wonder if you are the photographer or you mean that you fixed the colors of a file someone else uploaded. Perhaps you could have a look and see if you remember? --MGA73 (talk) 21:00, 28 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

@MGA73 Hi. I can't remember unfortunately, but it looks like I want the photographer as I've never owned an Olympus. That should have been uploaded as a new version on the original page—looks like my early Wikipedia work takes something to be desired! JPBarrass (talk) 23:08, 28 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. I found the original file via Special:Diff/128163236. I moved both files to Commons so we have the source for the file on id.wiki now.
Perhps you could check the rest of your uploads Special:ListFiles/Jpbarrass? It would be good if you could add {{own}} and JPBarrass as source and author (if you are the photographer). --MGA73 (talk) 09:34, 29 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Fauna

edit

I think the work you are doing adding fauna lists to various places is really great and appreciate the effort. However, I would strongly suggest you take a look at the style guidelines at WP:WHYCITE. Adding a citation after every single animal name is not only a waste of your time and effort, but also just makes the text harder to parse through. Nobody is going to challenge that an animal is listed simply because the citation appears at the end of the paragraph instead of directly after its name. Hope I can save you some time, and happy editing! -- Fyrael (talk) 20:47, 30 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Fyrael Hi. Thanks for the comment. the page you've linked, though, says this: 'It is not necessary to include a citation for each individual consecutive sentence, as this is overkill. This does not apply to lists or tables'. I think it may therefore be necessary, though it does look quite cluttered. JPBarrass (talk) 23:46, 30 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
