Feel free to talk to me! John M Brear (talk) 20:37, 14 October 2011 (UTC)
- Nice to hear from you! I have recently regained an interest in Roman technology after revisiting Dolaucothi, discovering more traces of aqueducts and early mining attempts. I gave a lecture at Oxford last year on the new work because of a revival of general interest among academics. There is much more to be found I think, especially with google-earth, which means aerial photography is open to all. That site in Durham was probably Lanchester a Roman fort and settlement with at least two large aqueducts and dams, unique in the whole country, but unexcavated. From the piles of slag at the site, it may have been a large armoury and forge, but nobody knows yet...What are your own interests? You mention the creep article, and I have made some minor edits on fatigue, but so much more is needed! You mention that you now live in South Wales, but where? I recently visited the steel works in Cardiff: very dramatic...are you connected to the company? Peterlewis (talk) 21:43, 15 October 2011 (UTC)
Fatigue + Dolaucothi, it had to be you! And yes, it was Lanchester - in Oct/Nov 71. After Manchester I worked at the CEGB's Leatherhead labs, where Prof Smith and Dr Pilkington had been, for 12 years. Main interests were residual element effects in weld failures and creep life prediction. Then in 85 I moved over the fence to ERA, to avoid the inevitable changes that were to come with privatisation. It was there that I got involved with petrochem plant issues. At the end of 2001 a couple of colleagues and I set up our own outfit Stress Engineering Services (Europe) Limited (www.seseurope.com). Still small, but still here and working internationally. Haven't got involved with the steelworks down here, but am involved with the two Pembrokeshire refineries.
Moved here in 2003 and have a smallholding 4 miles from Cross Hands - so not far from Dolaucothi/Pumpsaint. Looking into the local history when I got here, almost the first thing I found was Barri Jones' obituary - sad he died young. I haven't made it to the mine yet, but could easily be persuaded next time you are down this way. Let me know! John M Brear (talk) 13:07, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

Adding reference on wiki articles
editHello John M Brear! Please do not forget to add references from reliable sources for the content you add to Wikipedia. This helps maintain our policy of verifiability. Adding a well formatted references is very easy to do.
- While editing any article or a wikipage, on the top of the edit window you will see a toolbar which says "cite" click on it
- Then click on "templates",
- Choose the most appropriate template and fill as many details as you can,
This will add a well formatted reference that would be helpful in case the website link (web URL) becomes inactive (dead/link rot) after some time. You can read more about it on Help:Edit toolbar or see this video File:RefTools.ogv. thanks and regards --DBigXray 23:18, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

A bowl of strawberries for you!
editFor noticing the vandalism on Vaikunthbhai Mehta and raising the issue to others. I had requested a protection at WP:RFPP and the page is semi protected which effectively means IPs will not be able to vandalize that article for the time being until the protection expires. cheers DBigXray 23:30, 14 July 2012 (UTC) |
- Thank you! Strawberries and page protection both greatly appreciated.
I agree that this article needs some citations and links to/from other pages, but I only found it by chance and have no knowledge of the subject. I hope someone with an interest in Indian economics will rise to the challenge.
Have a great day!John M Brear (talk) 09:14, 15 July 2012 (UTC)
- Thats ok , My appreciation was for your kind observation and the fact that you raised the issue further, so that the admins had a look on it. Had it not been you, I wonder how long had that vandalized page lasted. Anyway a Kind admin also took care of the vandalized reversions, and deleted them, so no one can revert to an earlier vandalized version. I hope that you will keep contributing here. thanks and regards--DBigXray 20:12, 2 August 2012 (UTC)
