Proposed deletion of Samsun Samair Airport

I had created that article. But, I am not sure if the airport is still in use or not. I assume you know more about the current situation. My question is: can the airport be classified as a defunct one and can the article be categorized under the Category:Defunct airports? This can save the article. Appreciate your reply. Snowfall occurs in Samsun city and the Turkish Black Sea coast (Also in Istanbul and the Sea of Marmara) practically every winter - but it of course varies.

Just a section on this and answering this is trivial itself, but snowfall occurs in Samsun city and the Turkish Black Sea coast (Also in Istanbul and the Sea of Marmara) practically every winter. It varies but is NEVER absent. Snowcover lasts for at least a few days at the northern coasts of Turkey, but snow is normal at these relatively northerly latitudes (the same latitude as Boston). I believe this is due to the silly Western stereotype of Turkey eg. that it "never snows" there, that it is a "tropical country" or that it is a "desert country with date palms" etc.. The only areas in Turkey where snow is rare and very rare are the central and southern Aegean coast and the Mediterranean coast.

I changed the emphasis that snowfall is (always) heavy and re-edited that "Snowfalls can be heavy but this usually varies considerably from year to year, and the snowcover and temperatures below the freezing point rarely last more than a few days." This is actually the true extent of the occurence of this wintry phenomenon in northern coastal cities like Samsun (or Istanbul) with a temperate climate. Nevertheless snow does indeed occur virtually every winter; in some winters snowfalls were indeed heavy and snowcover lasted for a few weeks, but again normally in winter snowcover usually lasts for a few days after each snowfall and is usally no more than the 1 cm - 10 cm range. Regarding copyedit note

Hmm, not sure who added the copyedit note. Perhaps it was the Anomiebot? Usually that's one of the bots that creates multiple issues tags on articles. I only remove such tags when there is only one tag in an article, as it was on the university article. Otherwise, I leave them alone. Now that I am thinking about it, it might have been one of the other editors who have edited the article, if in their opinion such work needs to be done. Good luck on improving and/or expaniding the Canik Başarı University article(which I can't do as I don't know the Turkish language. :( )! Alvin Seville (talk) 20:22, 5 October 2012 (UTC)

Hey you asked that question on my talk page. There only one answer to your question, I undid it because there was no sources provided. In other words the editor who entered the date didn't provide any references to prove the details. If you have sources then you are welcome to add it back. Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Turkey)

Hi. I was wondering if you'd be interested in setting up Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Turkey), based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). Now it's not a contest in itself, it's designed to motivate people to inspire others to improve content and build something which demonstrates the hard work going into the country which is visible. The focus is more on quality improvements but new articles are welcome too. Eventually a Turkish National Contest could be created to fuel it, like Wikipedia:Awaken the Dragon, in which contestants can choose to keep the Amazon vouchers themselves to buy their own books for more articles or put them into book fund to help editors further improve Turkish-related topics by giving them the books they want. It will begin though as purely an improvement drive. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant!
