Canada

Please review User:Maclean25/sandbox#History. I understand there is an attempt at making the Canada into a featured article. I note that the History section was overly long and that considerable pruning has taken place to get it to a reasonable length. However, I also see that further improvements need to be made in order to make it past WP:FAC. In re-writing the history section in my sandbox I removed the sub-headings (noting that none of the other country FAs use sub-headings in the history section - or any other section as they are generally discouraged for summary style sections), used few transitional (fluff) sentences (though I have been criticized on this at FAC), and used key wikilinking in order to remove detail that would bloat the sentences. The section is currently incomplete as I am missing several themes (Quebec sov, economics). I understand the sandbox version is rough but I would appreciate your thoughts on the style before I bring this to the Canada article talk page. -07:31, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

Canadian style numbers (i.e. no comma seperation)

Hi Jeff,

Canada style numbers do not apply in the article on Canada because the WP:MOSNUM#Numbers supercedes that style. In other words, use a comma every 3 digits. Syed Jaunpuri OR of Jaunpur

Hi Jeff3000,

As you liked to discuss with DigiBullet on his talk page, I would like to add that initially the article Syed Mohammad Jaunpuri was created by AMahdawi. A follower of that faith as the nick denotes. Later it was lost for some unknown reason. Then I couldn't find that article to link it from the claimants link, a sub section of the Mahdi article. Henceforth I have composed the biographical topic under the article named Syed Mohammad of Jaunpur. I would suggest that whichever page is more complete that must be left alone and the other one deleted. BTW, I too am from the members of the same belief, I can comprehensively shed light on the subject, holding strictly to the NOPV requirement. History could be much reliably recorded from the people of the land about which the history is to be gathered. Accuracy may be deduced by cross checking with the critics. BBC Cite

The BBC citation you are refering to states : "The festival lasts just over a month. The authorities have spent millions of dollars on security and other arrangements with in excess of 30 million people expected to attend" - which is different from what you are using it to cite: Around 70 million people (followers of Hinduism) from around the world participated in Kumbh Mela at one of the Hindu Holy city Prayag (India). -- The BBC also explicitly state that non-hindus were present, with India attempting to attract tourists to the event, which is at odds with what you have re-added. --Irishpunktom\^talk 15:12, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

Keep a an eye on this one

I may be wrong(I have been once or twice) but I think a user that placed a sockpuppet tag on a few days ago has returned. I had been plagued by that other user(users) for quite a while, once you tagged him and George Money "evidenced" him a little more he disappeared. Well, I think he's back in the form of this guy. Maybe I am WAY too premature on this and I will assume good faith as best I can but this new user's modus operandi is starting out very similar to the previous sock(s). Baha'i writings deleted from wikisource.

Hey dude. Check out wikisource - all our hard work was undone. I put a note requesting a policy change on the deletion policy talk page, but the Baha'i Library terms of use were not GFDL terms and therefore it was removed (even though some of the english translations can be sourced from older publications now in the public domain). Because we don't lurk on wikisource, we missed the notice on (at least my) talk pages and they were deleted. No e-mails were sent that I am aware of, even though I have set my e-mail address in the preferences. Grrr, that's so frustrating. --Christian Edward Gruber 15:56, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

So it was a policy-related thing, and the admins/bureaucrats are being nice. Birgitte is restoring them temporarily so I can back them up (we put a lot of work into the formatting). We need to consult with the archives folks as to how to proceed, whether we use older publications which have passed into public domain (where possible), whether the world centre could release them under a dual license, with one being GFDL-compatible, etc. Let's discuss where to go with them. --Christian Edward Gruber 17:27, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

Ayyavazhi

Hi Jeff

There has been a lot of discussion on the India talk pages regarding the notablity of Ayyavazhi. We had to do a major cleanup after it was found that a single user had created links to the Ayyavazhi pages from every possible WP page. One including the Menstrual cycle page! If you feel it is appropriate to include a link to a very obscure religion with a miniscule following, in the List of religions page, then go ahead and do it. Not really, because to protect the talk page would mean no-one except admins could post messages there. So unless another block is due for vandalism (removing warnings on it's own isn't really vandalism) then I can't protect. Use of ref tags

What exactly did you mean by "not use <ref> as this article is not in that style" in your edit summary here. I have never heard of references which were unsuitable for use with the ref/references system. I put the ref tag around it as that is the way to use the system to have inline citations which are summarised at the bottom. Idealling it should use {{cite web}} instead of just the link to detail when it was accessed, its title and publisher. Ansell 23:51, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

I do not know much about the Baha'i faith, as you may have realized from my contributions to the article... though I did not attempt to leave it out.

I live in B.C. and am concerned with forests... have been a watershed activist, planter of trees, event coordinator, and environmental writer for magazines, newspapers, websites, etc. Also (like RSBB), attracted to organic gardening and carpentry at a young age. I've worked on a lot of eco/environmental/cultural articles here on Wikipedia.

Hi Jeff - I'm sure you would want to know that the use of Google's corporate trademark on your user page is against Wikipedia fair use policy; I've done you the courtesy of removing it from your User page so you can be in complete compliance with the rules. As you can see, the infobox for google uses Image:Google logo transparent.png which is copyright, meaning you were breaking WP policy by displaying the image on your user page. I've removed the offensive userbox and would advise you in future to abide by Wikipedia's policy on fair use images.
