July 2022

Before adding a category to an article, as you did to Another Gay Movie, please make sure that the subject of the article really belongs in the category that you specified according to Wikipedia's categorization guidelines. The category being added must already exist, and must be supported by the article's verifiable content. Categories may be removed if they are deemed incorrect for the subject matter. Thank you. DonIago (talk) 15:38, 25 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

  • DonIago, this notice is partially not relevant (of course, this category is correct) and partially makes no sense (what's the point of removing instead of creating?) --INS Pirat (talk) 16:18, 25 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
If you want to create the category, you're welcome to do so, but you should be doing that before attempting to add articles to it. That you added a non-existent category to an article indicated that either you were unaware that the category didn't exist, in which case I've brought that to your attention, or that you weren't aware of the proper workflow, in which case I've now advised you of the proper workflow. DonIago (talk) 16:21, 25 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
I don't agree with you. There is no such obligatory workflow. WP:CAT doesn't require creation in advance to addition. It just says that an article shouldn't be "left" with a non-existent category. Your assumption that I might have not realized that the category doesn't exist highlights your superficial approach: you likely didn't take a look at my contribs. Usually, in the case of film directors, I add red categories to the pretty big number of pages and then create them in a row. Yes, sometimes I miss out some, and the reminders are welcome (however, the creations are better). But you, apart from reminder, also removed the category, which is, in my opinion, an unreasonable, unsolicited action. --INS Pirat (talk) 23:04, 25 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
And easily reverted, so not really worth making an issue about? DonIago (talk) 02:42, 26 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Non-existent categories

edit

Please do not add non-existent categories to articles and expect others to create the categories for you; the non-existent categories will be removed. WP:CatDD has helpful advice related to categories, and you may request they be created at WP:AFCRC. Best, UnitedStatesian (talk) 19:45, 26 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
