To boldly go...

edit

It was very good of you to prepare a draft on talk:dilated cardiomyopathy, but I think it could just as well have gone into the article space. The stub sitting there at the moment is not satisfactory.

I was thinking of moving the content myself, but as you wrote it you might as well move it. Be bold is an important Wikipedia policy :-) JFW | T@lk 18:24, 23 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

How I noticed the page? Goodness, I can't remember. It may be that dilated cardiomyopathy was on my Watchlist; in that case, edits to the talk page also show up. Alternatively, I may have seen your message on someone else's talk page (it could have been Ksheka's. Anyway, I'll see if I can add anything to your fine new creation! I don't call it the CORRECT PKL. I'm ashamed of seeing my country's Standard Institute suggesting a CORRECTed PKL, without following the basic concept of typists ease of typing!

Decimal separator

edit

Hi Huji, I was reading the article Decimal separator and noticed some countries with sizeable populations not listed in the sections ¨Dot countries¨ and ¨Comma countries¨ including Iran. So I thought I´d look up an Iranian Wikipedian and suggest that you add Iran to which-ever category it belongs. Thanks, AussieDingo83 08:45, 3 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hello again. Thank you for your help. Hopefully there will be some feedback and the article can be made more complete. P.S. The way I found you was the page Category:Iranian Wikipedians (this is an internal link, I just couldn´t get the link to work properly), which you were automatically added to due to your ¨This user comes from Iran¨ userbox. These automatic categories created by userboxes are a great way to find people that might know something about a particular subject matter, such as countries, languages, certain TV shows or movies, history, science, religion, etc. This is a great argument for these handy little things that some people seem intent on getting rid of. Anyway thanks again. AussieDingo83 03:23, 5 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Decimal separator

edit

Hi Huji,

The reason I removed the stub tag is that the article looked too long to be a stub to me. However, I understand your point concerning Arabic and Persian languages. In such cases it is often best to create a section about this certain sub-topic and then mark it as a section stub. But, I guess with this article that won't be possible, since the article isn't split up by languages. So, if you feel, that it would be appropriate to mark it as a stub, go ahead. By the way: it is better to use {{math-stub}} or something even more specific than the generic {{stub}}.--CarabinieriTTaallkk 19:43, 7 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Cleanup processes

edit

Hi, and thanks for offering your help.

Yes, I agree with what Zoz said. I'm not an admin. My understanding of Wikipedia:Redirects for deletion is that anyone can vote on a proposed deletion. I don't know anything about the "Cleaning department", actually I had never heard of it before your message on my talk page. Perusing their project page, it does seem that for at least some of the tasks they are talking about you do have to be an admin. However, you may wish to help out at the Wikipedia:Cleanup Taskforce. That is quite different from the "Cleaning department". As I understand it, the "Cleanup Taskforce" deals with, essentially, editing articles for style, spelling, grammar, and factual accuracy. That does not require you to be an admin. --Mathew5000 22:43, 10 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

How can I help more?

edit

Beland, I'd like to get more involved in Wikipedia, and I'm interested in maintenance tasks. But I've never done them before, and the help section pages have confused me rather than showing me where to start. I'd be glad if you can offer some guidance. hujiTALK 10:51, 8 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

I notice that you have a physician userbox; you may be particularly interested in the new "maintainence by topic" pages, specifically Wikipedia:Pages needing attention/Health science. This is a consolidated list of health-related articles with various problems. Basically, you can start here to find articles you might be interested in that need improvement. If you improve an article enough to fix the problem indicated, you can remove the cleanup tag from that article. (There's a short list of cleanup tags at Wikipedia:Cleanup resources.) If not, you can leave it for future editors. You can also apply a more specific tag, which is sometimes helpful. There are sometimes hints about why someone added a tag in the edit summary they left in the article history, or sometimes they leave notes on the article's talk page. If you remove a tag from a health-related article, it will disappear from the listing the next time it is updated. (Which may take a few weeks, but you don't have to worry about keeping the list updated yourself.) Category:Articles that need to be wikified has good instructions on how to wikify if you haven't done that before. It also has thousands of backlogged articles to be wikified that are sorted by date and not by topic (if you are interested in helping with the massive wikification drive which is currently ongoing). The only other important term which may be unfamilar is "stub". This is simply a descriptor for short articles; once they get a little longer, the stub tag can be removed or possibly replaced with an {{expand}} tag for a particular section. Good luck and thanks for your interest! -- Beland 02:13, 11 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

about "Category:EBM"

edit

Hi, Huji, and thank you for invited me to write something on EBM. I am glad if I can contribute some items to wikipedia. I started learning EBM in the last decade and I really like it.

I saw there is a discussion on if we should merge “Category:EBM” into “Category:Medical informatics”. From my point of view, I prefer we have an individual category for EBM. Now, in this category, there is only four items. But I think later we will see more because EBM is a exciting field.

I don't want to make my timetable too messy, So, if I have time I will add something to this category. Good luck to you. User:Ph.eyesTALK 7:13, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

Two Articles in need of your attention

edit

There are two entries at Wikipedia, which have falsely created -- they are Turco-Persian and Turko-Persian Tradition. Both entries are factitious. I have requested the entries to be deleted. My reasons are:

The term Turko-Persian Tradition (or Turco-Persian) does not exists academically and it is a factitious entry! Check the Encyclopaedia Iranica to confirm -- The correct name for that culture is the Persianate culture not the "Turko-Persian". Turkophones (mostly of mixed race and Persianized in culture) only spoke in Turkic dialects and were in the military. That is not enough participation in creating and forming the culture to deserve the name "Turko-Persian Tradition" – This is misinformation. All the elements in that area, which have to do with tradition and culture, were drawn from the Iranian culture (Persian, Kurdish, Azari, Baluchi, Tajik, Luri, Gilaki, Talishi, Mazandarani, etc.), and the Islamic faith, not much Turkic elements (like shamanism, yurts etc.) were incorporated in. That is what makes the name "Turko-Persian" an imaginary one and therefore the entry should be deleted.

Any contributions would greatly appreciated. Bā Sepās Surena 02:24, 17 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

It should, as far as I know. Try it out, and let me know :-) —Mets501 (talk) 19:28, 4 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
I checked it out. These wikis are not listed on the Language dropdown: fa, ar, he. I'm afraid no check pages are available on those wikis as well. I'm thinking of extending AWB's source code to be usable for Farsi wikipedia. I've downloaded the source code. Any recommendations? hujiTALK 07:30, 5 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
He is listed, but the other two are not. If you cannot get the custom project working, then you could add fa and ar to Variables.cs in WikiFunctions (you'll have to add them to "public enum LangCodeEnum" and create a case for their namespaces below). —Mets501 (talk) 12:01, 5 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
All right. There is one more thing I need to know. Do we need to have a checkpage on Fa wiki to make AWB work? hujiTALK 20:25, 5 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Nope. If there is no checkpage, all users are enabled by default. —Mets501 (talk) 21:26, 5 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm unsure if a photo taken from a paper bill can be published on wikipedia or not (for example to show how a £2 bill looks like.)

While it may not be copyrighted as it is a government work, (not positive this applies to UK, try asking on the help desk), it may violate counterfeiting laws. Find the relevant webpage of the UK government that deals with counterfeiting. There will proably be restrictions on size and color for reproduction, even digital. Sorry if this isn't very helpful. Thank you for the reply. I wasn't actually addressing a UK bill. I gave that as an example, and to ensure I'm not going to get the same answer I would get for a US bill (for which I know the copyright restrictions.) I wanted to know if there are any concerns except for the local rules of the country of interest, which should be met. Thanks again. hujiTALK 22:22, 27 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Persian

edit

Huji,

In response to your queries :

  • English, French, Latin, German, and a modicum of Greek.
  • We may discuss the matter via IRC, MSN Messenger, e-mail (which may be tedious), or, perhaps, another medium -- if such is more preferable to you.
  • My chief intention is to familiarize myself with the written language (for the sake of literary benefit, respectively) rather than the spoken-language in itself. Although, of course, I am not opposed to any phonetic benefits that may be attained thereof. Moreover, I am not greatly interested in much contemporary literature, although, of course, I am also not opposed to learning the content of such. I would say, perhaps, the literature of late 19th century would be most appealing to me (for I imagine that it has not evolved greatly over the course of a century).
  • Thus far, I have learned but little in the art of the Persian language. For quite sometime, I have been familiarizing myself with Latinized Persian, yet, have only recently began to read rudimentary sentences composed in the Persian text. As for the overlap of the two languages; I do not believe that I can boast knowledge sufficient enough for making such an observation. Although nevertheless, I am sensible of the fact that the two languages use the selfsame text (along with Urdu), and, also, that many Persian words may be familiar to many Arabic-speakers -- although in regard to Arabic, I know absolutely nothing. All the same, I am quite eager to learn Persian and do hope, perhaps, that it will grant me sufficient grounds learning Arabic in the future (if I choose to do so).

RTL

edit

Hi Huji, thanks for your suggestions. Regarding your first suggestion, I'm not adding other RTL languages to the code at the moment because translations for those do not exist. Also, he and fa are not the only other RTL languages, so adding just those would be a bad idea that could cause confusion in the long run. As for your second suggestion, the implementation is not that simple--not all wikis are first-letter-uppercase wikis; most Wiktionaries are case-sensitive in all characters. However, I do have a plan to implement a more complex version of that when I have some time. Cheers, Tangotango (talk) 10:01, 30 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hey, no need for any kind of obligation :) If you want some small tasks to do, I'd suggest you check out Wikipedia:WikiProject External links/Tasklist. A lot of the articles that have been listed as having a large amount of external links simply need a couple links incorporated into the article with <ref></ref> tags, which is not a serious workload at all. Just pick and choose what tasks you want to do--you don't even need to finish them. After all, there's no hurry :) Happy editing, Arky ¡Hablar! 19:07, 16 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:DiffMergeScreenshot.png

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:DiffMergeScreenshot.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 16:16, 10 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I actually wasn't aware I should add the rationale in any ways other than adding the appropraite tempalte. Thanks for the reminder. I'll do it for the other Fair Use image I uploaded too. hujiTALK 20:35, 10 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

AfD nomination of Simple English Wiktionary

An editor has nominated Simple English Wiktionary, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Simple English Wiktionary and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 19:14, 26 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of Emrah İpek

edit

A tag has been placed on Emrah İpek requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the article or have a copy emailed to you. Proposed deletion of DiffMerge

edit

The article DiffMerge has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable software.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Palo (flamenco), you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Tarantas and Tangos (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

RfC for some sources reliability

edit

To ensure myself about your participation in Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard#Primary sources at Great Mosque of Kufa about these sources :

I would add a note : it is not about approving the Hadith but it is about the background of the name of the Kufa mosque's Bab-o-thoban doorway (from alive Shiite sources). Previously I had created a separate article to avoid controversy moderately but User:Pahlevun made it controversial by merging it to the main article of the mosque.

TOP 25--a reply

edit

Hey Huji, my name is Rebestalic

I wouldn't really regard myself as the emerging computing prodigy of the century haha, what does 'DB' as in 'I cannot successfully replicate it on wiki replica DBs' mean?

I find my data for the Top 25 Report at the Hostbot Top 1000 report; Hostbot is an automation that's run by Jtmorgan. Every day, Hostbot gives a list of the 1000 most viewed Wikipedia articles (excluding other namespaces like talk pages) starting from seven days before the date of upload to the date of upload. Unfortunately, false positives do exist, and so we use WMFLabs' Topviews tool to check for them

After any false positives have been identified and removed, we just copy the 25 most viewed articles out of Hostbot's report, add a little commentary and voila!

Stay well, Rebestalic[dubious—discuss] 22:24, 20 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Rebestalic: thanks for the response! DB was short for Database. What you explained above has clarified many things, and my original question is invalid. Keep you the good work! hujiTALK 22:46, 20 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Module:Test module

edit

Hello, Huji,

I'm not sure why you created this page, with a speedy deletion tag, with an edit summary that says do not delete it. Did you want this page deleted or not? If not, why is it tagged? Liz Read! Talk! 04:08, 28 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Liz: There is a functionality that seems to only work on English Wikipedia, and fail to work on other WMF wikis. Phab:T268867 explains it. This module page demonstrates how it works on English Wikipedia. I want those who review the Phab task to have a way to test it and identify the reason behind it working here and not elsewhere. hujiTALK 13:29, 28 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
That said. I replaced the speedy deletion tag with another tag, so it doesn't bother the enwiki sysops. hujiTALK 13:31, 28 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
