Category: Customary units in India
Could Ganeshbot add {{WP India|importance=low|class=stub}} to articles in Category:Customary units in India? Thanks =Nichalp «Talk»= 06:01, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
Bot
Hi Ganesh. I was wondering if you could help me with a bot account. It would be a content creator bot where the input would be from a CSV file. Some of the applications would be:
- New article creation
- Infobox addition
- Succession infobox
- WP India notice
I had created user:Nichalp-bot some two years ago for such a purpose, but then you came along and Ganeshbot has remained the hero ever since. :) Could you help me out with this bot account? =Nichalp «Talk»= 14:50, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

File upload bot
Hi Ganesh, Thanks for the heads up. I'll have a look at AWB and see what it offers. I use mostly Linux so would need to be on Windows to test it out. I'll check it out probably next week or so. I have a more pressing issue that would like your opinion on.
I have about 100+ photos that I wish to upload to commons. I would like to use a script to automate this process. Commons:Commons:File upload service/Script is one ready-made script, but its very basic and I would like to add more features such as geocoding etc.
This is what I plan to do:
- Put all the images in a single folder.
- Create a CSV file with the following information:
- Original filename
- Renamed filename (optional)
- Description
- Source
- Author
- Date
- Permission
- Other versions (optional)
- Dec Location (lat)
- Dec Location (long)
- Region
- Type
- Heading
- Cat1
- Cat2
- Cat3
- Cat3
- Cat4
- Cat5
This is what the script should do:
- Read the CSV file
- Rename images (can it do this?)
- Upload images
- Format the page similar to Image:Vaseodev Balwant bust.jpg
- Throw up errors if failed, or file already present
Can this be done? Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 13:48, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
WP Mumbai
Thanks Ganesh. Is it possible to have those articles be put in a csv file? I could then rate and assess them and your bot could tag all articles based on the CSV file. Thanks! =Nichalp «Talk»= 19:48, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
Bot
Hi Ganesh, I have been looking round for wikiproject watchlist creators as we appear not to be able to get bot owners to perform this task for us. We had one run in April from one bot but they appear not to want to run updates. I was wondering if it was possible to use your bot source and run it when required ourselves. I have not got any experience in this area and wondered if this was possible and if you could point me in the right direction as to setting up and running the script. Thanks. Keith D (talk) 21:53, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
- Many thanks for running bot for me. I did notice a problem in that there is no article talk pages given. Looks like there is no iteration through the articleTalk list in the output phase. I may try and set-up my self but would you be willing to run on a regular basis for me? Thanks again. Keith D (talk) 09:31, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks again, especially for the prompt response. I will have a look at running it myself when I get the time. Server running particularly slowly today so not done much. Keith D (talk) 23:37, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
Madh Island
Hi Ganesh, any idea why this error is happening for the coordinates in the infobox on Madh Fort? =Nichalp «Talk»= 09:35, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks Ganesh! =Nichalp «Talk»= 06:06, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
- I tried to use the AWB, but have run into technical difficulty. Step 5 says: Click "make list" and select the input file. Which input file would this be? If it is the CSV file, I am getting an error. One issue could be because I tried to use MS Excel to create the CSV file, and while saving, it told me that the CSV file was not DOS compatible. Could this be a problem? And are the column headers automatically created with AWB, or have I to manually enter ##city##? =Nichalp «Talk»= 09:06, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

About Gangapur, Uttar Pradesh...
Ganesh, I may be wrong about this, but isn't Uttar Pradesh in the north, bordering Nepal, and isn't Gangapur, in fact, in Madhya Pradesh? Kelisi (talk) 23:20, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

- Thanks for the fixes Ganesh. I found that manually creating district1, district2 etc parameters upto 70 was a chore, I wrote myself a Perl script to do just that. User talk:Nichalp/infobox. :) And I know Perl for less than a week. :) =Nichalp «Talk»= 16:32, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
- Hi Ganesh, refer to List of districts of India. Now instead of manually calculating the density, area in sqmiles, and density in miles, I am creating a template, you just need to enter a few values, and the rest would take care of themselves. Does this make it clear? I'll try and provide you an example in a short while. =Nichalp «Talk»= 17:20, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
Mspraveen
Hi Ganesh. Thanks for bringing that up. I did my own check. It appears to be a fluke overlap on the 59.93.0.0/16 that all of West Bengal appears to use. Msp used one of the exact numbers, which changes to a distinct new number every day, so he has used about 100 different numbers. Then two months later, an army of RRaunak socks land on the same day on one of the exact numbers. It seems like a lottery fluke to me. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 01:23, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Sigh @ Sam Korn. He starts off by asserting (as a matter of fact) that it wasn't necessary for it to go to ANI and then hurls accusations that no courtesy was extended to inform him of that ANI discussion...and then he says he takes issue with the way it was handled and there are more peaceful ways for others to handle it...not once stopping to relook at the huge assumptions of bad faith he made to begin with??? Controlling the urge to slap him with a trout during that convo was an interesting experience for me - I'm not going to respond further to him on the matter. District infobox
Hi Ganesh, please see User:Nichalp/sandbox which references to Template:Indian districts. That is what I want to do.
But I seem to have run into small problems:
Extra rows. I got lots of unused onesFigured this out now!- Commas for area and population. I get an error if I use a comma
Wikilink syntax. How do I create something like Nicobar without triggering an error?
Thanks! =Nichalp «Talk»= 18:01, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
- Hi Ganesh, the calculation routine is interesting, but I'm looking for something that does not require the user to create additional templates, tables and so on; the user just has to enter the data in the given fields. This would be useful for such dynamic data tables, where the population changes and/or when areas are delimited. The scope of this is large. Almost any country can use this table for sub divisions. Would you also know how to render those commas? Thanks! =Nichalp «Talk»= 14:44, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
Hi! I've gone ahead and used Template:Table Indian subdivisions on User:Nichalp/districts and it seems to be all good. While editing, I notice that some articles are missing. Could you use Ganeshbot to populate those articles?
- Districts
- Bandipore district (JK)
- Badgam district (JK)
- District HQ
- Janjgir of Janjgir-Champa, CG
- Senapati of Senapati district, MN
- Tamenglong of Tamenglong district, MN
- Lamphelpat of Imphal West. MN
- Lawngtlai of Lawngtlai district, MZ
- Navgarh of Siddharthnagar, UP

Re: Proposal
I've thought about it for a while, but let me look at a few ideas and get back to your idea soon in detail. At present, I think it'll take quite a few resources to work on it plus you might want to have a look at the present notability policy of future film articles as established by WP:FILMS. These have to borne in mind before seeding any work towards your idea.
- In the meanwhile, I was hoping to ask you this. I just cleared up the unassessed articles from WP:Indian cinema today (about 100 of them) and boy, it pains to do it manually. AWB helps, but I find the browser GUI more reassuring. WP:India has about 11000-odd unassessed articles. Do you think TinucherianBot can do assessments based on stub template on article pages? At least we can reduce, IMO, half of these unassessed articles. Thoughts?
- Wikimedia India - is it any active? Wikimania in India? :) Seems like you were there while Jimbo visited Chennai, wasn't it? I read/saw somewhere on the pedia. Mspraveen (talk) 16:31, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

File upload script
Apropos this comment. I did not want to give up so easily, so I decided to learn Perl and program the script myself. I took it up as a challenge -- don't ask me how I did it... perseverance perhaps? :-) But the script is much more powerful than originally envisioned. It can rotate images, embed Exif information, add geo templates and so much more.
So Mr Ganesh Krishnamurthy, I present you my very own Nichalp's upload script, my maiden attempt at WP scripting. Enjoy! PS I'm just making it public to a few editors for now for testing. In a few days, I'll advertise it across WP and Commons. Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 13:16, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Masulaandcambay.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Masulaandcambay.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

OSM
Thanks Ganeshk, yep i do know Harry Wood.Ive been using yahoo imagery for mapping chennai all this while. the road names are added from zone maps that i have specially obtained from the corporation of chennai. It does need ground verification though cause i still dont completely trust their maps which have been drawn using autocad. Btw i am planning to promote osm at the barcamp next month -- PlaneMad|YakYak 18:56, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
- the maps are a1, so if you can tell me a specific region i can send you a scan. i noticed that you have been covering the velachery region, i shall get a copy for that zone the next time i visit the corporation. Right now i have the mambalam saligramam region. i have already mapped the streets, maybe you can help out with the streets. The barcamp has been postponed to next month and falls a day before my sem exams, now im not too sure that if i can give a session there - PlaneMad|YakYak 08:52, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
Indian Music workgroup
Hello, Ganeshk. Just want let you know, that I have set me on the list at IMWG. As I read out of the history, it seems you have set up this group, right? - That's great. Indian music (as the eldest music system in the World !!) still needs heavy support... I wonder little bit, that you have set up as I read, you have some different interests (plesae understand this not as critics, not at all ;-) ). More my question: Where are all the Indians, who are trained in Indian Classics (as (semi-)professionals)? One aspect I may menthion here, too. It would be a help, if the "to-do-list" would not link to http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Template:Opentask. Better we have a specific list focussing onto articles, which have to be maintained, correlating with Indian music. I am not a technic freak here at WP... so I ask: Would this be possible? Maybe already exist a template for. - Keep in touch... --ElJay Arem (talk) 22:31, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
