Wikipedia talk:Comments in Local Time

[1] Gary King (talk) 23:15, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

thank you

My RFA passed today at 150/48/6. I wanted to thank you for weighing in, and I wanted to let you know I appreciated all of the comments, advice, criticism, and seriously took it all to heart this past week. I'll do my absolute best to not let any of you down with the incredible trust given me today. rootology (C)(T) 07:46, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

RE: Discussion about the early closure of afds

I have left a comment at WP:AN. — Aitias // discussion 19:07, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

Early closures

Thanks for the heads up. I made two sets of comments at Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard#Section_break. Are people more upset at early keep closures, or early deletions? I can't tell from the thread. Bearian (talk) 19:40, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

RfA thanks

Thank you for the trust you placed in me by supporting my RfA (which passed and, apparently, I am now an admin!). I will do my best to continue to act in a way that is consistent with the policies of wikipedia as well with our common desire to build and perfect this repository of human knowledge; and can only hope that you never feel that your trust was misplaced. Thanks again! --Regent's Park (Rose Garden) 23:42, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Edit Summary Usage

I recently noticed that the RfA pages no longer have a link to a tool that shows edit summary usage. Do you know where such a tool is? I noticed that you consider edit summaries as important, I do as well. ErikTheBikeMan (talk) 02:18, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

The note has stopped appearing because mathbot has stopped posting edit counts and stuff like that. To access the tool, use the following url: http://toolserver.org/~mathbot/cgi-bin/wp/rfa/edit_summary.cgi?user=USERNAME&lang=en replacing USERNAME with whoever you want to check. LoxyBot

I saw your edit summary here and would like to say that LoxyBot's server has been reformatted and the bot currently does not have a home, I am trying to get an account on the m:Toolserver, but I don't know how long that will take. In the mean time, feel free to update all the parts of the opentasks page as you wish. Foxy Loxy Pounce! 22:40, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Sorry to hear that Loxybot has become a homeless bot. Good Luck at the Toolserver.
Thank you for letting me know what's happening. I can't update {{Opentasks}} as efficiently as the bot, but I'll try to keep things there somewhat fresh. Take care. --PFHLai (talk) 15:42, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

PHPediaWIki

I wish you'd publicised it a bit better; then I wouldn't have gone to the bother of creating the Wikibot framework, which is still at a basic level.

So: is it worth keeping both? Well, I think 'yes' : PHPediaWiki seems to be a high-tech solution - powerful, extendable (I remeber seeing the word OOP), suitable in any situation and on any MediaWiki site; in contrast, I want to keep Wikibot as a simple, low-tech, my-first-bot solution, solely documented on (en) Wikipedia though probably usable on any other MW site.

It is my intention to try and port some of your functions to Wikibot, just as you ported some functions for SxWiki. I hope you don't have any complaints; any suggestions most welcome.

- Jarry1250 (t, c) 13:34, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

Sure, feel free to port any of the PHPediaWiki functions as you please. Currently the version on the SVN repository does not work as a whole, but I believe the individual functions should work fine. I think I should explain what is in each file on the Subversion Repository, so you can find what your looking for:
  • pwiki.class.core.php - This file contains the most low level functions, such as the functions for getting pages off the internet, debugging and error reporting.
  • pwiki.class.l1.php - This file contains functions that call the core functions to create highly usable functions, generally you would access this functions instead of the core directly. It contains the function for making an API query and logging in (I think)) and more.
  • pwiki.class.l2.php - This file contains functions that mainly extend upon the level 2 functions and are mostly API queries. The functions for getting and putting pages etc.
  • pwiki.class.php - This file is generally what an end user would call to access the pwiki classes, it implements an extension system so that you can add your own functions to the core of the program.
  • *.extends.php - These are pwiki extensions that provide functions that are useful, but not always needed. i.e. categorymanipulation.extends.php provides functions for renaming categories, adding a page to a category etc.
All the files are released under the GNU GPL v3 or later versions. If you need any help, feel free to contact me. Enjoy! Foxy Loxy Pounce! 00:53, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
Would you mind updating your row on this table if you get a second? I think it's imperative we have an up-to-date list. - Jarry1250 (t, c) 12:01, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
Done. Enjoy! Foxy Loxy Pounce! 22:35, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Being mean to the guy who gave me rollback

Whacking with a wet trout or trouting is a common practice on Wikipedia when experienced editors slip up and make a silly mistake. It, along with sentencing to the village stocks, is used to resolve one-off instances of seemingly silly behavior amongst normally constructive community members, as opposed to long term patterns of disruptive edits, which earn warnings and blocks.

Example

Whack!
The above is a WikiTrout (Oncorhynchus macrowikipediensis), used to make subtle adjustments to the clue levels of experienced Wikipedians.
To whack a user with a wet trout, simply place {{trout}} on their talk page.

SparksBoy (Counter Vandalism)(talk) 04:16, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

We aren't being mean to PeterSymonds, like I said over IRC, we're just "making subtle adjustments to [his] clue levels" to quote WP:WHACK! :) Happy rollbacking! Foxy Loxy Pounce! 04:41, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

RFA thankspam

Thank you for weighing in at my RFA. I liked your reference to my "excellent edit summary usage" -- I don't understand people who don't use edit summaries, if even for their own sake when they're going back through their contributions looking for something! Somno (talk) 04:29, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Enjoy your tools! ;) Foxy Loxy Pounce! 04:44, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
