Wikipedia:WikiProject Hong Kong

edit

I've revamped and given new direction to the WikiProject Hong Kong page. Feel free to invite more people to join. The more people the more effective. Be sure to also try and tag as many Hong Kong-related articles as possible with the WikiProject Hong Kong infobox found on the project page. Looking forward to working with you. Deleted Page: Tim_Sweetman

edit

I noticed that the page Tim_Sweetman had been deleted by you. I wondered why, and I believe it may be ready to be reinstated. I know of a guy who wrote up something that's not written by Tim Sweetman himself.

It was deleted for being WP:CSD A7. If you want to contest the deletion, go to WP:DRV. enochlau (talk) 05:16, 15 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

fansites

edit

I'm standing by WP:EL. I don't care which fansite gets linked, just as long as there is only one there. Desertsky85451 02:22, 17 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Policy is there for every situation and ignoring all the rules this time would just lead to me ignoring them next time, and that is not gonna happen. We're not the first to disagree on this, nor will we be the last, but in past disagreements, WP:EL has won out for being a sensible middle ground. I've restored the links to the sites with lyrics, but removed the rest, since they are all unofficial fansites. That leaves two, which is more that WP:EL allows. A photo sites for some one's favorite pop star is inherently POV and amature, and can be prone to conjecture, rumor and contain stalking information. Linking them from a biographical article is almost an endorsement of their content, which I think should blackball them immediately. Since those who have come before us think one external, non-official, link is okay, I'll tolerate it. That doesn't mean I'm happy about it. Desertsky85451 02:37, 17 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Why did you delete Jonathan Stamp?

edit

I was planning on working on that page. Is there a reason you deleted it so quickly? I would have preferred you post a question on the talk page so that it could be discussed, rather than just delete it. MagnoliaSouth | Talk 06:39, 17 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

It was deleted under WP:CSD A7. If you wish to dispute the deletion, go to WP:DRV. Alternatively, if you wish to recreate the article, please ensure that it surpasses a non-notable biography. enochlau (talk) 07:12, 17 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi,

The spiffy purple template is available with "mfd top" and "mfd bottom" tags. When in doubt, spelling out "xfd top" and "xfd bottom" works for any new forum. Best wishes, Xoloz 15:07, 26 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

edit

I noticed you deleted an article I created a few minutes ago. The content of the article is a matter of public record, and his position of Attorney General should give him at least some notability. I don't think it needed to be deleted.--Everine 11:31, 4 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

The article as it stood when I deleted it was terrible to the point of being {{db-attack}}. I am aware of the current situation surrounding him, and I am sure that a properly written article will not be deleted. enochlau (talk) 12:17, 4 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

TCard Image Deletion

edit

Hello,

I am trying to find out the nature of a deleted image from the TCard article. If you are the user who deleted the image, then can you please tell me the nature of the image and what the motivation for its removal was?

Without seeing the image it is hard to tell if it is copyrighted, but as the filename is DSC####.jpg, it could well have been taken by someone's digital camera. It would be nice to have a photo of the TCard in the article.

Thankyou

What was the actual filename? enochlau (talk) 04:44, 5 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
[[Image:DSC01360 edited.JPG|thumb|A student's Tcard]] [[User:User A1|User A1]] 05:57, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
Ah ok, the situation there was that it was requested by the uploader that the image be deleted, because the image contained personally identifiable information. Hopefully, some of us will be accepted into the Tcard trial and we can take a new picture. enochlau (talk) 06:19, 6 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

John Miller (film)

edit

Hi! I noticed that you deleted John Miller (film) as a "nn bio." This is not at all true, having worked closely with Kroger Babb and being one half of Miller-Consolidated Pictures. The stub was still in need of expansion, but his notability certainly wasn't in question. Please consider restoring for me. Thanks. --badlydrawnjeff talk 01:31, 5 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Citizenship judge & Citizenship Judge

edit

The former was redirected to the latter because of three articles linked to it (they no longer are) namely Lise Bacon, Suzanne Pinel and Lou Sekora. There was "method in my madness". See Talk:Citizenship judge. Peter Horn 02:53, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Redirects to non-existent pages are speedily deletable and don't help even if articles link to it because there's no content at the other end of the redirect. Changing the links is a good idea I agree. enochlau (talk) 03:29, 8 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Why did you revert edits on Jolin's page?

edit

I did a lot of research to add information to Jolin's page and included lots of important information that was not included before! The original article omitted lots of information about Jolin's albums and barely said anything about her singles (while some other artists have whole pages dedicated to their singles)! Can you please explain why you would ignore all my hard work and revert it back to before? Furthermore, I made many grammatical changes as well, fixed some consistency errors, and tried to make the article flow better. So even if you did not like the content I added, I also tried to fix errors and make the overall article better. So please let me know why you reverted it because I feel I wasted so much time only trying to make the page better...

I think the revert was unintentional. Thanks for pointing it out. enochlau (talk) 05:19, 8 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Image removal for Pisay-pshs-oval.JPG

edit

Hello enoch! I just wanted to inquire about your deletion of my recently uploaded picture, Image:Pisay-pshs-oval.JPG. I must admit that I am fairly new to Wikipedia (as a contributor), and I was quite befuddled that my choosing of a 'wrong' license resulted in the picture being tagged for speedy deletion. I was thinking maybe you can help me with my situation. In the summary of the picture in question, I clearly stated the author (not me, but our high school batch) and source of the picture. Was that not enough to not merit a deletion? If it was enough to merit a deletion, would picking another license the next time I upload the picture prevent it from being tagged for speedy deletion?

Apologies for the many questions. Thank you very much.

Wikimedia Quarto proposed for deletion

edit

I've added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Wikimedia Quarto, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree, discuss the issues raised at Talk:Wikimedia Quarto. If you remove the {{dated prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. meco 22:24, 18 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Reverting a mass deletion

edit

Administrative Appeals Tribunal

Please note that your reversions there had the effect of re-adding some very unencyclopedic editorializing. I am in the midst of a general campaign to raise awareness about such matters and plan to use your reversion as one of many examples in an ongoing discussion of such things at WikiEn-L. This isn't to try to single you out, but rather to raise awareness of a large problem.

Enochlau, you said "I reverted was because I believe mass deletions should always be explained in the edit summary." Newbies that see something that should be deleted and see that "anyone can edit" will not leave edit summaries that identify the policy or guideline under which the content is inappropriate. Typically they have no idea what is and is not proper or customary or accepted. All they know is "It should be deleted" and any edit summary will say basically that; which does not tell you more than a blank edit summary on a mass delete anyway. 4.250.168.250 11:29, 26 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
You see, 99% of the time, when I see mass deletions, it's a sign of vandalism. It's very hard to pick out when it's genuine. But I apologise for any inconvenience my reversions have caused. enochlau (talk) 12:01, 26 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Victorian election campaign

edit

Hi Enoch Lau,

If you have some spare time, could you please cast an eye over the 2006 Victorian election campaign, which I split from the parent page Victorian legislative election, 2006. There is a dispute about how the article should be structured and whether it needs to be significantly altered at all. I think that the article is suffering from a lack of diversity of editorial opinion, which makes consensus appear impossible. There is of course a dialogue to follow on the talk page as well Talk:2006 Victorian election campaign. Thanks, Grumpyyoungman01 00:43, 31 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, I'm really busy at the moment with exams. I'll look over it when I'm less busy. Cheers. enochlau (talk) 04:01, 1 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
