Welcome to My Talk Page
editPlease take the time to review my user page for an overview about me, my interests and the projects and articles that I am working on in Wikipedia. While I will make a sincere effort to respond to your posts here quickly I would ask that you bear with me as I do not visit Wikipedia daily. Edward Lalone 03:55, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
Oh, and hello
editI just thought I'd say that although I disagree with you on the AfD debate, I wanted to say hello. Your work on Utah politics and LDS issues is uncommonly good.
Also, although it was lost in other edits, I wonder whether you approve of the changes I made to Utah#Politics. Cool Hand Luke 03:31, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
- I see no problem with your edits of Utah Politics and the changes are good ones. A lot of work needs to be done on the section to make it more NPOV so any changes that attempt to do so are actually beneficial to the article. Edward Lalone | (Talk) 03:54, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
Government of Utah - my bad
editEd,
First, thanks for your work on Utah governemnt topics.
If you remember, I had transferred the Government section of the Utah Portal to an article, Government of Utah, but I neglected to add a redirect to the portal page. So I have copied your edits from January 21 from the portal to the article and set up a redirect. To be proper, I should have done a move instead - I'll have get an administrator to fix that. — Zaui (talk) 18:26, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
- Just to follow-up - the history of your edits to the old portal page has been transferred to the Government of Utah article. The old portal page has been deleted. — Zaui (talk) 16:01, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Utahhouseseal.gif)
editThanks for uploading Image:Utahhouseseal.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Racism & Mormonism
editI have resided in Utah for close to a decade, Mormonism and racism seem to be intertwine much like a marriage. What most fail to understand is that the core and base of most religions usually evolves from love, goodwill towards others and the general practice of testing ones fate throughout his or her life. I have enough insight to understand that we, humans are creatures of habit and great limitations. Throughout history many atrocities have been commited by men towards other men, perhaps it is in our nature to be destructive, harbor hatred and ignorance. I have read and heard that the Mormon religion did not accept blacks into their ranks until 1978. I have also read a passage about how blacks are considered filthy. On the other hand, claims are made by the Mormon church of being anti-discriminant towards blacks. Incidently, it is also written in the U.S. constitution that all men are created equal and discrimination based on race, sex and religion is a direct violation of the law. However, racism is very much alive, discrimination based on sex and religion still exists as well. I am not offended by the doctrines of the Mormon religion. The ambiguity of the Mormon church seems obvious. The unfortunate part of it is that it affects all the members, even the ones that are not part of discriminating factor. I have accepted the fact that a great deal of people are racist, will continue to be racist and will most likely teach their children to be racist. As I mentioned before, we are creatures of habit and many limitations. What I do not agree with is the recant of the original doctrines of the Mormon church, to do so displays indecisiveness and falsehood. The general population of Utahans still believe that blacks are filthy, inherently inferior and are cursed. By accepting blacks in their church at the present seems parallel to saying "I am sorry for discriminating against you for so long. It is politically incorrect now. I will allow you to be in my presence, but I will keep a watchful eye on you." I do not believe in saying "I am sorry", what has been done cannot be change and I beleive that many do not want to change it just to save face. Many white Mormons are truthfully against racism and discrimination but are few in numbers as opposed to their racists counterparts. We live in a complex world where putting up facades and being politically correct is the new trend. Deep inside, not much has changed. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 160.7.239.114 (talk) 00:29, 11 May 2007 (UTC).

Assistance on a project I am working on
editSince you live in Utah, maybe you can help me with something. I have been working on a project dealing with bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton regarding the Winter Olympics and their respective World Championships in the FIBT and International Luge Federation, mainly with athletes, but I am also focused on the tracks these athletes compete on, including the one for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Park City, Utah. I still have some biographies to do and will not be able to focus on the tracks until around November 15, 2007. Would be interested in assisting on the Park City track? Please advise. editHi Ed, I just would like to tell you that I just posted a proposal on the project Utah talk page. I notice that you are one of the most active in the committee. I would like to know your opinion on my proposal. Thank you. User: Adrian Comollo 20 November 2007 For your ease I am attaching my proposal also here: Hi, this is user:Adrian Comollo, already a Utah wikipedian, and I would like to partecipate to this project. Since we are going toward globalization and dialogue among cultures, I propose to you a section that could be located for example under "People" and would be entitled "Utah National Groups". It would briefly describe the various groups such as Germans, Swedish, Tongans, Venezuelans, Russians and so on. A few lines of history, some info about businesses, social activities, relevat people. I am teaching a course that includes this diversity topic at the SLCC and my students would be happy to find accurate info. Please let me know if you like this idea. 20 November 2007.

An advice from you, please
editHi Edward, Thank you for your previous help. I am trying to get info from the village pump but no answers yet. I am wondering if you know something about procedures in case of cancellation. An article of a friend of mine in Italy has been proposed for cancellation (religious topic), and he was contacting people in his field to get their opinion and eventually their vote. He has been labeled with vandalism! Do you know if this is the case also here or it is a specific Italian situation? Thank you much for your help. Adrian Comollo (talk) 06:06, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Foreign policy of the Barack Obama administration
editWhere do I begin?
"His one-day trek last week to Denmark -- which failed to convince the International Olympic Committee to award the games to his hometown -- made it the 16th country Obama has visited since taking office on Jan. 20."
is waaaaay to similar to
There's restating the facts, and then there's taking out a few words and replacing them with synonyms."His trip to Denmark, that failed to convince the International Olympic Committee to award the 2016 Summer Olympic games to Chicago, made Denmark the sixteenth country Obama visited since becoming President on January 20, 2009."
- It is recentism because it's a tiny piece of trivia about a year which isn't even over until January 20, 2010.
- What do the Olympics have to do with the Obama foreign policy overall or with how many countries he's visited? That part reeks of recentism.
- The significance is nearly nil unless you qualify it with sourced information about how this number of visits affected, contributed to, or is a symptom of the Obama foreign policy.
- Why was it placed in the "Background" section? That part is talking about everything leading up to Jan. 20, 2009 then we're suddenly at Jan. 20 2010 in a single paragraph.
- It states "Obama visited more countries in his first year as President than any other president". "President" is redundant and should only be capitalized is it's referring to the man rather than the office.
- It's also foreseeing something which hasn't happened; it needs to say something to the effect of "Obama has already visited more countries" rather than making sound like the year has already passed.
Basically, this is the same thing (s)he's tried to add the Obama biography article. It was hugely inappropriate there and it continues to be in the "Foreign policy" article. If it continues to violate WP:COPY, WP:CRYSTAL, WP:RECENTISM, WP:WEIGHT, WP:NOTE, and WP:TRIVIA it really can't stay. DKqwerty (talk) 20:40, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
- I have changed the text to "President Obama has already visited more countries during his first year in office than any other president. His trip to Denmark, that failed to convince the International Olympic Committee to award the 2016 Summer Olympic games to Chicago, made Denmark the sixteenth country Obama visited since becoming President on January 20, 2009" since I agree with your 7th point about this forseeing the end of the year and your 6th point about the wording.
- Personally, I don't mind it when an occasional editor of an article writes in the past tense since they are unlikely to come back and edit it and it makes more work for regular editors of an article if they write in present tense. I also moved this sentence to the Initial themes section (since it is more appropriate) but the purpose of the Background section was never to be a section solely dedicated to events occurring prior to his inauguration. It's intended to provide background for the policy but isn't necessarily just the history prior to his inauguration since that would be better dealt with in the campaign and transition articles.
- These are the thematic sections and the section titles can be changed as necessary. Other editors have also agreed about not being strict about the naming of the sections. The number of times Presidents visit foreign countries is significant and it is especially more significant when it highlights their attitude towards "hands-on" foreign policy and their relationship with their Secretary of State. I don't fault this user for trying to make a minor edit without understanding how to tie it in as you mention in your 4th point. We should leave that for more experienced editors and give an editor who has just joined the benefit of the doubt.
- Your 5th point about the background section mistakes the purpose of the section. At present it may appear to be dealing with events leading up to January 20, 2009 but that is already addressed in other articles dealing with his campaign, transition, and inauguration and has nothing to do with this one. There is a reason that the Background and Initial themes sections are sub-sections of the History section and the history section has links to the campaign and Transition articles. At some point the History and Background sections may become their own sections but for the purpose of simplicity we should keep them as is but we have not had time to write a History section that ties in the campaign, transition, inauguration and his foreign policy throughout his administration. That is a daunting task but one that can be more easily achieved if we don't remove contributions that are made in good faith.
- You are correct that this wouldn't belong in the biography article but it is appropriate in this article and can be tied into the rest of the article with a a little editing on our part. If you think it violates WP:COPY, WP:CRYSTAL, WP:RECENTISM, WP:WEIGHT, WP:NOTE, and WP:TRIVIA then feel free to edit it but sooner or later we are going to have to add it back in so it is pointless to remove it since this has a lot to do with his foreign policy outlook, policy and how he sees the role of the President, Secretary of State, Special Envoy's and others in foreign policy and diplomacy. Better source request for File:Utahcounties.gif
editThanks for your upload to Wikipedia:
You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain, search engine, pinboard, aggregator, or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 07:57, 28 October 2018 (UTC)
