Tom Hardy (designer) footnotes

I put it on the talk page of the article, but maybe it's better I write this on yours. Please read section 4 of WP:CITE (4.1 in particular) and use <ref></ref> tags and {{reflist}} to create proper footnotes. It will make navigation of article and editing of footnotes much easier by automatically linking and numbering them. Also, don't clutter text with multiple footnotes for a single statement. No statement needs more than 2 footnotes to be verified by reliable sources. Something like this:1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 really breaks the flow of the text and draws undue attention to a particular fact. Finally, don't leave bare links in the text (like at the end of the intro), as it is a violation of WP:EL, convert them to footnotes if need be, if you don't change them to a full reference, a bot like DumZiBot will eventually convert them to something following the manual of style, but only if it's within ref tags.--Boffob (talk) 12:54, 18 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

OK, doing references is not that complicated. You simply need to write the references inside ref tags where you want to put it. Like so: Statement.<ref>Reference</ref>. You don't need to number them there, in fact, it's better not to. This will create a numbered footnote, but to have the footnotes display at the bottom, you need to put {{reflist}} in the References (Sources, whatever) section (no need to rewrite the footnote content). WikiProject Industrial design and Design Portal

I recently posted the following text on Wikipedia regarding the creation of a new Visual arts/Technology-related project in Wikipedia:

WikiProject Industrial design is a Wikipedian community that aims to better organize information in articles related to Industrial design (also called Product design).

  • If I'm cor-rec-to, there are about 900 articles on Industrial design in Wikipedia...
  • At least, it's more than for Typography, and there IS a Typography WikiProject...
  • And it's more than the Fashion WikiProject with 482 articles...
  • There is also an Urban studies and planning project and a Video games portal so...
  • Now you can also see a proposal for the Design Portal. (that portal would be for Industrial design AND Graphic design/Interior design)

Conflict of interest?

I vaguely recall discussing WP:COI-related issues with you years ago, but I'm not sure if I recall correctly if you disclosed your identity in those discussions. A great deal has changed over the past few years in Wikipedia's policies and guidelines concerning conflicts of interest, so you might want to review them again, especially WP:DCOI and WP:FCOI.

Any COI aside, the requirements of WP:BLP are very rigid, and some of your edits need to be rolled back or better referenced. My rule-of-thumb is that if there's no third-party source available, it probably doesn't belong in a BLP. --Ronz (talk) 15:42, 23 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Ronz - Firstly, my view is that postings I have made on Hardy's page meet the Wikipedia neutral point of view (NPOV) - "...fairly, proportionately, and, as far as possible, without editorial bias, presenting significant views that have been published by reliable sources on a topic". The material is not subjective and is based on verifiable facts. Documented material and related reference sources cited can be found across numerous online websites, including Hardy's LinkedIn page and business website, as well as published articles and books. Secondly, regarding the COI concerns, the tag is unwarranted. Please stop removing the improvement template. Even if you had found the discussion and responded to it, removal of the template is inappropriate. It's there to identify that there is a dispute requiring assistance.

(Could you link the articles you reference in the future?) Jonathan Ive is a class C article, so probably not something that will help much if at all. Karim Rashid is stub-class, and looks to be a mess. David M. Kelley is unreviewed as of yet. Bill Moggridge is stub class.

Edit-warring against the Biographies of living persons policy

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing.

Please note that the Biographies of living persons policy places the burden of evidence (and for gaining consensus) on the editors adding or restoring the material.

Tom Hardy (designer) - Encyclopedic Version

Ronz - It seems like the most prudent way to proceed in resolving the 'resume' editing issue of the Hardy article at this point is for me to: (1) spend time conducting further research into the referenced sources in the article, (2) study encyclopedic writing style / examples and then (3) compose an encyclopedic-style draft for review. When finished, I will not edit the article with draft text but will post it here on the Talk page for review and discussion. This approach seems reasonable given your earlier point that other editors will most likely not spend time to search out the reference sources and compose an encyclopedic version...whereas I have some time + knowledge of the design field + have access to a number of the reference source pubs and know people who have access to the others.
