License tagging for Image:An Yang Spade.jpg

Cast Chinese Coins

So how do I put the Preface/Introduction/Foreword pre-amble after the Contents like in every other normal book or article? DavidDavidhartill 07:31, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Normally, the first introduction is a "section free" section. It goes above the table of content. You can take a look at articles with the most revisions and see their styles. --ChoChoPK (球球PK) (talk | contrib) 11:30, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

July 2010

I keep reverting the new text because:

1. it is chatty and wholly unencyclopedic
2. it is completely miscapitalized
3. it is unsourced

Further, it is done by an anonymous IP, which makes it look suspicious. I suggest you sign in, read WP:MOS, and source your claims. I am not impugning your credentials or lack of them, as I have no knowledge of them one way or another. As noted in my previous comments, no sources were provided and the content bordered on original research. You need to supply sources for content or risk having it removed. How to verify copyright permission for article Ancient Chinese coinage

Hello, Davidhartill.

Thank you for your interest in donating material from your book Cast Chinese Coins to Wikipedia. Since we do not currently have a method in place to verify the identity of account holders at account creation, we must verify such donations through external processes. The article has been blanked to allow time for that verification to proceed.

The simplest way to verify is generally to place a release on the external website putting the material into public domain or co-licensing it under CC-BY-SA and GFDL, which permit modification and reuse, even commercially, as long as authorship credit is given. This release is irrevocable and must continue to be displayed, or the material may need to be removed. A statement such as the following would be sufficient: "The contents of this website (or page, if you are specifically releasing one section) are available for modification and reuse under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike License 3.0 and the GNU Free Documentation License, unversioned with no invariant sections, front-cover texts, or back-cover texts." This is, obviously, challenging with respect to print sources.

Alternatively, you may choose to send an e-mail to the Wikimedia Foundation from the address listed in the book at page i (david.hartill (at) btinternet.com to permissions-en@wikimedia.org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the CC-BY-SA and GFDL. There is a boilerplate release form at Wikipedia:Declaration of consent for all enquiries which can be helpful. Please provide a clear link to the book in your e-mail (<http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=r4qWx1MFrMQC&printsec=frontcover&source=gbs_ge_summary_r&cad=0#v=onepage&q&f=false>), not on which page the address is found, and specify by name the articles on Wikipedia in which the material is being used. Once your e-mail is received and processed by a member of the Communications Committee, the article's contents will be restored if your release is legally sufficient.

If you decide you don't wish to release the material into public domain or under the terms of CC-BY-SA and GFDL, you are welcome to rewrite the text from scratch at this temporary page. As long as the material is otherwise compliant with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, it will be used to replace the previous contents. Please leave a note at Talk:Ancient Chinese coinage saying you have done so.

We apologize for the additional steps necessary, but as copyright is a matter of legal concern, we must ensure that we not only protect the rights of copyright holders, but also guard the Wikipedia project against inadvertent infringement.

Spade money

Please use article talk pages to post comments. You should not post comments within the article.

Yes the text was initially copied from another Wikipedia page. However it was not copied straight. Considerable formatting and copy editing was done and a brief introduction added. Some, but not all, of the new formatting was subsequently copied back to ancient Chinese coinage.

It is not without merit. The new page serves several purposes:

• People searching for Spade money (as I was) now actually find an article on the subject which is a notable subject and worthy of having a page on Wikipedia. Other kinds of Chinese money such as knife money already have their own pages.
• The new article serves as a seed onto which other users, such as myself, can add information specific to Spade money which would not fit within the ancient Chinese Coinage page. The ancient Chinese Coinage article is already and extremely long.

Photographs of Chinese coins

I just found a large collection of photographs of coins on flickr that are tagged as Creative Commons Attribution. This means that we can use this collection of photographs for illustrating articles on Wikipedia. The collection is very extensive with hundreds of images and well documented throughout—albeit in French. Could you look through these photographs and choose which ones you think would best illustrate articles here. I know you find image uploads difficult so if you simply list the requested photos, and where to place them, on my talk page, then I will add them to the articles. If you want you could upload pictures 📷 of your Ancient Chinese coins and machine-struck modern Chinese coins (prior to 1949) from your cabinets to Wikimedia Commons. Unfortunately there are a lot of images of fake Chinese coins circulating on Wikipedia and someone with both your knowledge and expertise would be most welcome.
