WP:ANI

A report pertaining to you has been filed at WP:ANI and out of courtesy I am informing you that it can be found here. Thank you and happy editing. Rgoodermote  00:29, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

You should probably get into your preferences and alter them so that edits are not marked as minor by default, it makes it look like you are trying to avoid scrutiny. The rest of this ANI thread is a bunch of hooey as far as I'm concerned, I like your "vandalism" image, but I suppose you will now need to discuss the matter on the policy talk page since there is some objection to it. In my opinion that is what Niteshift should have done in the first place instead of going straight for the WP:PITCHFORKS. Beeblebrox (talk) 00:36, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

I rather liked the image as well. unfortunately it got deleted... if you want to send it to me, I'll revise it so that it conforms to copyright policy... --Ludwigs2 07:31, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

I don't think that will be possible. I can't imagine why, but the logo is actually copyrighted [1]. Beeblebrox (talk) 17:56, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
yeah, but there are other non-copyrighted materials I can use. that's not an issue. I really just liked the spray-painted text bit, which would be a pain in the butt to reproduce. --Ludwigs2 18:38, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

Same goes for File:Wikipedia-Sockpuppet.png, which I have deleted. Fences&Windows 03:55, 27 February 2010 (UTC)

Fair use images on templates

Per WP:NFCC #9, the use of non-free images such as File:Yahoo! Messenger logo.png is not permitted on templates, such as Template:Y!. Please do not restore this or any other non-free image to any template or your userspace. Thank you, --Hammersoft (talk) 21:43, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

File:KolbeTrinity.svg

You marked this image as being in the public domain by way of Template:PD-textlogo. This license is inaccurate, as there are significant artistic elements in the image. I have removed the invalid license, and tagged the image as missing a license, making this image subject to deletion in seven days. I suspect what you want to tag the image as is Template:Non-free logo, in which case you will also need to provide a fair use rationale. Thank you, --Hammersoft (talk) 21:49, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

File:MinnesotaTwins.svg

This image is not yours to release. I've marked it as non-free, missing rationale, and orphaned. --Hammersoft (talk) 21:55, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

Monobook.js

Your monobook.js was itself ending up in C:SD due to a syntax error. I've tried to correct it, although I hope it doesn't break it... Ian¹³/t 18:30, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

I've made an edit to it as well. Apparently if you write {{delete}} or similar in your monobook.js it interprets that as a speedy deletion request, even if it's just a part of the code. Jafeluv (talk) 00:32, 7 March 2010 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of List of proverbial phrases

The article List of proverbial phrases has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

pure WP:OR

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Toddst1 (talk) 23:19, 10 March 2010 (UTC)

Articles for deletion nomination of List of proverbial phrases

I have nominated List of proverbial phrases, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of proverbial phrases. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Toddst1 (talk) 19:47, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

Haddy Jatou N'jie

Hi, I removed the speedy deletion tag you put on this article. To me, hosting the Eurovision Song Contest is at least an assertion of notability. I tagged the article as being borderline notable since there hasn't been much press regarding the song contest hosts at this time. ThemFromSpace 10:05, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: John P. Connolly (businessman)

Hello Darth Stabro, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of John P. Connolly (businessman), a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: clearly claims both importance and coverage in multiple reliable sources. Use WP:AFD instead. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. SoWhy 16:16, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion tagging

Hi. Don't mean to be rude, but I find some of your speedy-tagging questionable. John W. Miles, Ray Sturtivant, and Ray Sturtivant were all articles where the claim to notability were quite clear.--PinkBull 17:52, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

Hmm

There's nothing wrong with the Doom Unit article. It's just a band like the Led Zeppelin or AC/DC. So why can't it be in Wikipedia? And don't tag my pages without a reason pls. --URunICon (talk) 19:49, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:PFChangsLogo.svg

Thanks for uploading File:PFChangsLogo.svg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

PLEASE NOTE:

  • I am a bot, and will therefore not be able to answer your questions.
  • I will remove the request for deletion if the file is used in an article once again.

Thank you for uploading File:FlagOfFrance.svg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. FASTILYsock(TALK) 01:51, 22 March 2010 (UTC)

Image edits

You've been removing tags from images without fixing the underlying problem. For example [2] and [3]. Please don't do this. Also, I've marked File:PFChangsLogo.svg as a non-free logo, and tagged it as orphaned as it it unused, and non-free media must be used by at least one article. Please do not remove tags again without fixing the underlying problem. --Hammersoft (talk) 13:20, 25 March 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Toktumi

You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.

Thank you.

A tag has been placed on Toktumi requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this.  Blanchardb -MeMyEarsMyMouth- timed 00:36, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

File:Wikivandal.png

Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as File:Wikivandal.png has been listed for speedy deletion because you selected a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission. While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, this is in fact not the case[4][5]. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because images on Wikipedia need to be compatible with the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike or another free license, which allow anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial. See our non-free content guidelines for more more information.

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{cc-by-sa-3.0}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. Note, if you did create this file, you may want to upload it to Wikimedia Commons, which will allow the image to be accessed by all Wikimedia Foundation projects (which include the various localized versions of Wikipedia)

If no fair use rationale applies, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

Speedy deletion of Template:PageMaker

I have placed a speedy deletion tag on Template:PageMaker, which is currently a redirect to a subpage in your user space. A redirect was created when the template was moved. This redirect currently serves no purpose, and in any case will need to be deleted if you move the template back to Template space.

I have used WP:Criteria for speedy deletion#G6, which asserts noncontroversial maintenance. If you object, please contact me immediately and I will remove the db template. You may also want to place a {{hangon}} template on the page in case there is any delay in my response. Best, Cnilep (talk) 20:24, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

Sharon Lewis (voice actor)

Hi Darth. I have rejected your speedy deletion request regarding Sharon Lewis (voice actor). This is borderline, but I think going through PROD or AfD would be more appropriate. I do not believe that she meets the standards set out at Wikipedia:Notability, but the A7 criteria are lower than that. I feel that voicing a main character in a long-running, successful tv series is enough of a claim of significance for this not to be speediable. I shall PROD the article. Best wishes, Rje (talk) 01:29, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

No worries, it's not a big deal. The CSD definitions are confusing, they catch us all out sometimes. With A7, if it's obviously a schoolkid, or someone who clearly no sane person would consider to be worthy of inclusion, then they can be speedied. The borderline cases - actors of doubtful notability appearing in notable works, for example - are best PRODed or sent through AFD. CSD is meant to cover only the stonewall cases - it was born out of a need to ease the number of AFD listings we were getting by removing the stuff that nobody would consider to be encyclopedic on basic principle. Let me know if you ever have any questions, Rje (talk) 13:48, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

Pity the Fool

I've declined the speedy nomination on this article for an unusual reason — while it qualifies for deletion under this criterion, we need it temporarily for deletion purposes at Commons. You can see that the creator also uploaded the article's images, marking them as public domain; however, you can see that the creator claimed in the image captions on the article that these images were copyrighted by various individuals. Accordingly, I've nominated the images for deletion at Commons as copyvios; until they're deleted, please don't renominate the article for deletion. When the images are deleted, I'll delete this article. Nyttend (talk) 03:25, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your understanding! The images have now been deleted at Commons, and I've deleted the article. Nyttend (talk) 13:01, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Luis Guillermo Plata Páez

Hello Darth Stabro, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Luis Guillermo Plata Páez, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The article makes a credible assertion of importance or significance, sufficient to pass A7. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 09:47, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

Hofstadter's Rainbow reflection ambigram

Why did you replace Hofstadter's ambigram with an SVG? This is a (relatively well-known) original piece of artwork by Hofstadter which I personally arranged to be allowed to remain on Wikipedia after somebody falsely claimed it was public domain. Like any artist, Hofstadter objects to people manipulating his artwork in this way and has written strongly about the topic. Would you replace an image of a painting with an SVG that looked similar?

Further, I note that the artwork says it is also available under the GFDL. Hofstadter granted rights under Creative Commons, not under the GFDL. Is the GFDL assertion implying rights not granted by Hofstadter? If so, it should not be listed as available under the GFDL.

RoyLeban (talk) 07:03, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

I understand the advantages of SVG. But you have taken a piece of original artwork and replaced it with a different piece of artwork. Would you do the same with these works?

There's no question that both could be made sharper and scalable if converted to SVG. But this does not improve them -- it effectively wrecks them. The same is true with Hofstadter's artwork and there was a note in the original file which explained this (which you either missed or ignored).

Yes, you can create a derivative work, just like you could create a derivative work of a Picasso, but then you couldn't call it Hofstadter's art or Picasso's art. Here, part of the value in having it on Wikipedia is that it is Hofstadter's art, so we should have that artwork, not yours. And, if you call it your art, people will object that you are, in essence, plagiarizing Hofstadter.

As for the license, I don't recall it, but it was whatever it was before you changed it. I don't like just reverting people's changes when they're acting in good faith, but I think you should restore the original image and restore the correct license. Thanks.
