If you read the whole of the article 'Letter from Aleppo' it is clear that Dido and Aeneas was performed at Priest's School no later than summer 1688. The conclusion is based on a letter sent from Aleppo to England by Rowland Sherman. He encountered the opera before he left England in the summer of 1688.

The article states that it was WRITTEN no later than July 1688. Sherman encountered it before he left England in summer 1688, but he may have simply read a score. That there was a performance in 1688 is only a presumption. The article clearly states that the first PERFORMANCE was summer 1689. Darktangent (talk) 04:38, 6 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
