Large scale import of open access articles

Hi Daniel, I've been thinking about the possibility of uploading a large quantity of open access journal articles - by large I mean in the region of 1,000,000 - to Wikimedia, presumably Wikisource. Then I noticed that this is something you proposed way back in 2011! I'd love to automatically harvest all CC-BY licensed journals and repositories for inclusion, but I don't exactly how it could be achieved. If you're still interested in the idea we should have a chat about it some time. - Lawsonstu (talk) 21:51, 31 December 2013 (UTC)

Yes, I am still working on it and plan to set up a workflow for that as part of the OA signalling project - the idea here would be to signal OA-ness by linking to a copy on Wikimedia servers. Needs community approval. Biggest hurdle may be non-text files in formats not accepted on Commons (e.g. doc and xls). I'm available to discuss this for most of the coming days. -- Daniel Mietchen (talk) 23:12, 31 December 2013 (UTC)

Translation into Russian

Hey Daniel. Would having any of these articles translated into Russian be useful? [1] If you are willing to integrate them we can look at having Translators Without Borders find translators. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) (if I write on your page reply on mine) 20:37, 11 January 2014 (UTC)

Just did a few. Will get back as time permits. Haven't acted on several that would be "maybe translate" for me, and could not find guidance on how to handle that. -- Daniel Mietchen (talk) 23:14, 11 January 2014 (UTC)
