Hi CIC, I've been monitoring Electrobe's highly disruptive behaviour of today and thought I should warn you that he has excised some of your comments from the Heroes talk page (diff). As far as I'm aware, deleting or editing other user's entries on talk pages is strictly forbidden on this site. His own talk page is another matter, he's entitled to delete the helpful and friendly comment you left earlier today, but I find his reply insulting (diff): "I no that already please take time to check your facts." ↔ Dennywuh (talk) 17:50, 16 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, I was/am suffering from a lack of sleep (you should never edit will sleep deprived, by the way) and was a bit loopy (am a lot loopy) and the edit description left by...whoever left one before me, made me want to write an...opposing edit description ("Commenting so it doesn't seem like people are ignoring you" as opposed to "Ignoring you so it doesn't seem like people are paying attention to you"). In reality, I don't have any opposition to what you're doing, just sleep-deprived is all. ~QuasiAbstract (talk/contrib) 22:35, 24 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm a prominent editor? Wow, that's a surprise. I try to be a prominent editor, but it doesn't go over well with some of the people on here who are more highly respected and less lazy then myself. Any opinion or review that i give would be soundly ignored by the other Wikipedians. Of that, i have no doubt. Thanks for your kind words, but you might be better off finding someone else that wouldn't be ignored. I added a peer review for Heroes per your request, but there is another topic I liked to talk about, Kyle XY. I am an avid fan and have seen every episode at least twice. Peer review idea

edit

Hi, I have made a proposal that no peer review request be archived without some response. To aid in this, there is a new list of PR requests at least one week old that have had no repsonses beyond a semi-automated peer review. This list is at Wikipedia:Peer review/backlog.

There are just over 100 names on the PR volunteers page, so I figure if each of these volunteers reviewed just one or two PR requests without a response from the list each month, it would easily take care of the "no response" backlog (as there have been 2 or 3 such unanswered requests a day on average).

If you would be able to help out with a review or two a month from the "no responses" backlog list that would be great (and much appreciated). Please discuss questions, comments, or ideas at the PR talk page and thanks in advance for your help, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 00:12, 16 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Heroes (TV series)

edit

Congratulations on an outstanding article, more than deserving its passed nomination for GA! Please pass on the appreciation of the rest of the Wiki community for your team's contribution this project.

As the slowest and laziest of the "esteemed" editors you asked to review Heroes, I conveniently encountered everything in place for me to simply pass it for GA. Let me add, in my opinion, this article is clearly featurable. Please feel free to chase me if you think it would be preferable for me to nominate it for featuring, rather than a member of your team so nominating. Personally, I think it is better a team member nominates, since the team will take responsibility for responding to feedback. Certainly, feel free to quote me as the reviewer who passed the entry for GA and recommended nomination for FA. I will ensure I document that opinion on the article talk page, and explain why.

If you do decide to nominate for FA, as per my recommendation, I volunteer a more timely copy-edit by me than my review has proven to be, since I already know that copy editing will be easy ;). However, you may prefer I keep out of the edit history, since I'm such a fan of your work without being a part of it (yet).

Thanks again, congrats again and cheers! Alastair Haines (talk) 07:45, 21 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Dharma Initiative

edit

I noticed you reverted a recent edit I made to this article. Generally, when one is making a content revert, it is considered polite to explain the reason for the revert in either the edit summary or on the article's talk page. May I ask why you reverted here? Seraphimblade Talk to me 19:46, 4 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I apologize if that was confusing. I tweaked the redirect based on a discussion with another editor, to anchor to a specific section rather than the top of the page. The reason for redirecting the article in itself is that its subject appears not to be notable, since the Dharma Initiative does not appear to have significant out-of-universe coverage in reliable sources. Given that, we should not have a full article on it, unless such sourcing does actually exist and can be cited. Seraphimblade Talk to me 12:30, 5 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Request for Peer Review help

edit

Thank you for you work as a peer review volunteer. Since March, there has been a concerted effort to make sure all peer review requests get some response. Requests that have gone three days or longer without a substantial response are listed at Wikipedia:Peer review/backlog. I have three requests to help this continue.

1) If you are asked to do a peer review, please ask the person who made the request to also do a review, preferably of a request that has not yet had feedback. This is fairly simple, but helps. For example when I review requests on the backlog list, I close with Hope this helps. If my comments are useful, please consider peer reviewing an article, especially one at Wikipedia:Peer review/backlog (which is how I found this article). Yours, ...

2) While there are several people who help with the backlog, lately I have been doing up to 3 or 4 peer reviews a day and can not keep this up much longer. We need help. Since there are now well over 100 names on the PR volunteers page, if each volunteer reviewed just one PR request without a response from the list each month, it would easily take care of the "no response" backlog. To help spread out the load, I suggest those willing pick a day of the month and do a review that day (for example, my first edit was on the 8th, so I could pick the 8th). Please pick a peer review request with no responses yet, if possible off the backlog list. If you want, leave a note on my talk page as to which day you picked and I will remind you each month.

3) I have made some proposals to add some limits to peer review requests at Wikipedia_talk:Peer_review#Proposed_limits. The idea is to prevent any one user from overly burdening the process. These seem fairly reasonable (one PR request per editor per day, only four total PR requests per editor at a time, PR requests with cleanup banners can be delisted (like GAN quick fail), and wait two weeks to relist a PR request after it is archived), but have gotten no feedback in one week. If you have any thoughts on these, please weigh in.

Thanks again for your help and in advance for any assistance with the backlog. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 21:20, 27 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi, you don't know me but you are one of my favourite people on the internet. Its difficult to find someone so open about their faith in Christ online and you have got in shining through in your username. Thats awesome. BTW, you have amazing taste in shows. Heroes, LOST, Kyle XY and Jericho are all my favourite series as well. Chuck and Life are a lot of fun as well. Traveler was great too, pity it only lasted 8 episodes. I also recommend the show Boston Legal, its so quirky and awesome. Check out season 1 on DVD sometime. I also agree that Bionic Woman and Terminator were horrible shows, pity only one of them got the axe. Its also great you're studying child psychology. You'll be able to change a lot of people's lives for good in the future. May God's presence be around you always.

Help needed with The Office episodes

edit

Hi, I am writing to you because I need some help with two lists and I saw that you are interested in copy-editing TV series articles. Although The Office seems not to be on your list of favorite shows, I hope you can give the lists a try. Both lists did not pass their FLCs mostly due to c/e issues:

  1. List of The Office (U.S. TV series) episodes—probably most of the issues were resolved, so it probably does not require too much work
  2. The Office (U.S. TV series) season 4—it still seems to need some significant copyediting

The West Coast Heroes Editors

edit

Hey there! I seem to have upset a longtime Heroes editor from Los Angeles, and I was wondering if you knew what I could do to smooth his feathers. My major crimes were making good-faith edits and being bold, and he logged out and trashed me something fierce for it! I thought after all these years that having someone revert a bold edit was enough, but apparently this fella needed to go on a bit of a tantrum, so I suspect he never read the phrase, "If you don't want your writing to be edited mercilessly or redistributed for profit by others, do not submit it." But I'm less concerned with his own issues of ownership as I am keeping my continued editing on the Heroes page from creating drama. I see that you also hail from Los Angeles, so I was wondering if you could find out who this poor insecure fellow is and tell him that I mean no harm? I appreciate your help.--otherlleft (talk) 09:48, 8 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

GA Sweeps invitation

edit

Hello, I hope you are doing well. I am sending you this message since you are a member of the GA WikiProject. I would like to invite you to consider helping with the GA sweeps process. Sweeps helps to ensure that the oldest GAs still meet the criteria, and improve the quality of GAs overall. Unfortunately, last month only two articles were reviewed. This is definitely a low point after our peak at the beginning of the process when 163 articles were reviewed in September 2007. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. All exempt and previously reviewed articles have already been removed from the list. Instead of reviewing by topic, you can consider picking and choosing whichever articles interest you.

We are always looking for new members to assist with the remaining articles, so if you are interested or know of anybody that can assist, please visit the GA sweeps page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. If only 14 editors achieve this feat starting now, we would be done with Sweeps! Of course, having more people reviewing less articles would be better for all involved, so please consider asking others to help out. Feel free to stop by and only review a few articles, something's better than nothing! Take a look at the list, and see what articles interest you. Let's work to complete Sweeps so that efforts can be fully focused on the backlog at GAN. If you have any questions about the process, reviewing, or need help with a particular article, please contact me or OhanaUnited and we'll be happy to help. --Happy editing! Since the creation of the WikiProject, over 200 user's have joined to help review good article nominations and contribute to other sections of the WikiProject. Over the years, several of these users have stopped reviewing articles and/or have become inactive with the project but are still listed as participates. In order to improve communications with other participants and get newsletters sent out faster (newsletters will begin to be sent out monthly starting in October) all participants that are no longer active with the WikiProject will be removed from the participants list.

If you are still interested in being a participant for this WikiProject, please sign your user name here and please help review some articles so we can reduce the size of the backlog. If you are no longer interested, you do not need to sign your name anywhere and your name will be removed from the participants list after the deadline. Remember that even if you are not interested at this time, you can always re-add your name to the list whenever you want. The deadline to sign your name on the page above will be November 1, 2012. Thank-you. 13:23, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Update for: WikiProject Good articles (Participant Clean-Up)

edit

Sorry for having to send out a second message but a user has brought to my attention that a point mentioned in the first message should be clarified. If user's don't sign on this page, they will be moved to an "Inactive Participants" list rather then be being removed from the entire WikiProject. Sorry for any confusion.--Dom497 (talk)15:13, 22 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject Good Articles Recruitment Centre

edit

Hello! Now, some of you might be wondering why there is a Good article icon with a bunch of stars around (to the right). The answer? WikiProject Good articles will be launching a Recruitment Centre very soon! The centre will allow all users to be taught how to review Good article nominations by experts just like you! However, in order for the Recruitment Centre to open in the first place, we need some volunteers:
  • Recruiters: The main task of a recruiter is to teach users that have never reviewed a Good article nomination how to review one. To become a recruiter, all you have to do is meet this criteria. If we don't get at least 5-10 recruiters to start off with, the Recruitment Centre will not open. If interested, make sure you meet the criteria, read the process and add your name to the list of recruiters. (One of the great things about being a recruiter is that there is no set requirement of what must be taught and when. Instead, all the content found in the process section is a guideline of the main points that should be addressed during a recruitment session...you can also take an entire different approach if you wish!) If you think you will not have the time to recruit any users at this time but are still interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still add your name to the list of recruiters but just fill in the "Status" parameter with "Not Available".
  • Co-Director: The current Director for the centre is me (Dom497). Another user that would be willing to help with some of the tasks would be helpful. Tasks include making sure recruiters are doing what they should be (teaching!), making sure all recruitments are archived correctly, updating pages as needed, answering any questions, and distributing the feedback form. If interested, please contact me (Dom497).
  • Nominators, please read this: If you are not interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still help. In some cases a nominator may have an issue with an "inexperienced" editor (the recruitee) reviewing one of their nominations. To minimize the chances of this happening, if you are fine with a recruitee reviewing one of your nominations under the supervision of the recruiter, please add your name to the list at the bottom of this page. By adding your name to this list, chances are that your nomination will be reviewed more quickly as the recruitee will be asked to choose a nomination from the list of nominators that are OK with them reviewing the article.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing this program bring new reviewers to the Good article community and all the positive things it will bring along.

A message will be sent out to all recruiters regarding the date when the Recruitment Centre will open when it is determined. The message will also contain some further details to clarify things that may be a bit confusing.--Dom497 (talk)

GAN December 2013 Backlog Drive

edit

Hello! A GAN Backlog Drive will begin in less than 4 days!

In past Backlog Drives, the goal was to reduce the backlog of Good article nominations. In the upcoming drive, another goal will be added - raising as much money as we can for the Wikimedia Foundation. How will this work? Well, its pretty simple. Any user interested in donating can submit a pledge at the Backlog Drive page (linked above). The pledge should mention the amount of money the user is willing to donate per review. For example, if a user pledges 5 cents per review and 100 nominations are reviewed, the total donation amount is $5.00.

At the time this message was sent out, two users have submitted pledges for a total of 8 cents per review. All pledges, no matter how much money, are greatly appreciated. Also, in no way is this saying you must make a pledge.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or leave a message on the Backlog Drive talk page. And remember, there are less than 4 days before the drive starts!--EdwardsBot (talk) 03:10, 27 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

March 2014 GAN Backlog Drive

edit

It's that time again! Starting on March 1, there will be another GAN Backlog Drive! There will be several changes compared to previous drives:

  • This drive will introduce a new component to it; a point system. In a nutshell, older nominations are worth more points than newer nominations. The top 3 participants who have the points will be awarded the Golden, Silver, or Bronze Wikipedia Puzzle Piece Trophy, respectively.
  • Unlike the December 2013 Backlog Drive, earning an additional barnstar if you reached your goal has been removed.
  • The allowance to have insufficient reviews has been lowered to 2 before being disqualified.
  • An exception to the rule that all reviews must be completed before the deadline has been created.

Also, something that I thought I would share with all of you is that we raised $20.88 (USD) for the WMF in the December 2013 drive. It may not sound like a lot but considering that that was raised just because we reviewed articles, I would say that's pretty good! With that success, pledges can be made for the upcoming drive if you wish.

More info regarding the drive and full descriptions regarding the changes to this drive can be found on the the drive page. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a message on the drive talk page.

I look forward to your participation and hope that because of it, some day the backlog will be gone!

WikiProject Good articles Future GAN Backlog Drive

edit

Hello everyone! Hope you've all been having a great summer!

TheQ Editor recently proposed the idea of having another Backlog Drive in either September/October or November/December of this year. For those of you who have participated in the past two drives you know I was the one who organized them, however, come September, this will be my most important year in school so I will not be able to coordinate this drive (if it happens). TheQ Editor has volunteered to be a coordinator for the drive. If any of you would like to co-coordinator, please notify TheQ Editor on his talk page.

If you would be interested in participating in a Backlog Drive sometime before the end of this year, please notify TheQ Editor. Also, make sure to specify what month(s) work best for you.

At the time this message was sent out, the backlog was at 520 nominations. Since May, the backlog has been steadily increasing and we are currently near an all time high. Even though the backlog will not disappear over one drive, this drive can lead to several others which will (hopefully) lead to the day where there is no longer a backlog.

As always, the more participants, the better, and everyone is encouraged to participate!

GA Cup

edit

Hello everyone! We hope you have all been having a great summer!

As we all know, the recent GAN Backlog Drives have not had any big impact on the backlog. Because of that, me (Dom497), Figureskatingfan, and TheQ Editor have worked on an idea that could possibly finally put a dent into the massive backlog. Now, I will admit, the idea isn't entirely ours as we have took the general idea of the WikiCup and brought it over to WikiProject Good Articles. But anyways, here's what we have in mind:

For all of you that do not know what the WikiCup is, it is an annual competition between several editors to see who can get the most Good Articles, Featured Article's, Did You Know's, etc. Based of this, we propose to you the GA Cup. This competition will only focus on reviewing Good articles.

For more info on the proposal, click here. As a FYI, the proposal page is not what the final product will look like (if you do go ahead with this idea). It will look very similar to WikiCup's page(s).

The discussion for the proposal will take place here. Please let us know if you are interested, have any concerns, things to consider, etc.

WikiProject Good Articles - GA Cup

edit

WikiProject Good articles is holding a new competition, the GA Cup, from October 1, 2014 - March 28, 2015. The Cup will be based on reviewing Good article nominations; for each review, points will be awarded with bonuses for older nominations, longer articles and comprehensive reviews. All participants will start off in one group and the highest scoring participants will go through to the second round. At the moment six rounds are planned, but this may change based on participant numbers.

Some of you may ask: what is the purpose for a competition of this type? Currently, there is a backlog of about 500 unreviewed Good article nominations, almost an all time high. It is our hope that we can decrease the backlog in a fun way, through friendly competition.

Everyone is welcome to join; new and old editors! Sign-ups will be open until October 15, 2014 so sign-up now!

If you have any questions, take a look at the FAQ page and/or contact one of the four judges.

Cheers from NickGibson3900, Dom497, TheQ Editor and Figureskatingfan.
