Early A.M. work
edit- A long discussion that supports the need. [1]
- Another long discussion of a particularly bad one that stands out in my mind.
Second Mover Advantage
edit- Assertion of an oft-repeated but never policy-recognized first mover advantage for noticeboard respondents. If the first administrator who responds to a noticeboard request declines to do something, that has not in any meaningful sense prohibited others from acting after seeing the discussion. Indeed, it cannot; it would punish administrators who were in the process of responding elsewhere, or were unaware of the filing of a noticeboard report. It establishes an unreasonable first mover advantage in administrator disputes, which Arbcom has repeatedly stressed it does not want to see happen on the project, with considerable community support.[3] Hans at ARC
Basic questions
edit- Should the general public (i.e. the english speaking humans of the world) have an expectation of being treated with basic courtesy and respect when joining, editing and working with others on the English Wikipedia?
- If yes, how do we ensure this?
- If a basic tenet of editing at WP is to assume that every talk page is an area of mixed company (ie, women are present) would that prevent using social mores and prevailing customs as the excuse to be rude and vulgar?
- If so, where do we begin that conversation so that it works its way into possible life.
- Is it safe to say that WP is a society, in the broad sense of the world. Haven't societies thruout history created their own standards of what civility is?
I'm reminded of...
editRepublican Study Committee
editreleased a lengthy plan. It’s a dramatically right-wing document that would, among other things, undermine Social Security and Medicare, impose new restrictions on abortion rights, cut support for law enforcement, and gut the nation’s health care system.
