New Pages Patrol newsletter January 2023
editHello Bungle,
- Backlog
The October drive reduced the backlog from 9,700 to an amazing 0! Congratulations to WaddlesJP13 who led with 2084 points. See this page for further details. The queue is steadily rising again and is approaching 2,000. It would be great if <2,000 were the “new normal”. Please continue to help out even if it's only for a few or even one patrol a day.
- 2022 Awards
Onel5969 won the 2022 cup for 28,302 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 80/day. There was one Gold Award (5000+ reviews), 11 Silver (2000+), 28 Iron (360+) and 39 more for the 100+ barnstar. Rosguill led again for the 4th year by clearing 49,294 redirects. For the full details see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone!
Minimum deletion time: The previous WP:NPP guideline was to wait 15 minutes before tagging for deletion (including draftification and WP:BLAR). Due to complaints, a consensus decided to raise the time to 1 hour. To illustrate this, very new pages in the feed are now highlighted in red. (As always, this is not applicable to attack pages, copyvios, vandalism, etc.)
New draftify script: In response to feedback from AFC, the The Move to Draft script now provides a choice of set messages that also link the creator to a new, friendly explanation page. The script also warns reviewers if the creator is probably still developing the article. The former script is no longer maintained. Please edit your edit your common.js or vector.js file from User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js
to User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft.js
Redirects: Some of our redirect reviewers have reduced their activity and the backlog is up to 9,000+ (two months deep). If you are interested in this distinctly different task and need any help, see this guide, this checklist, and spend some time at WP:RFD.
Discussions with the WMF The PageTriage open letter signed by 444 users is bearing fruit. The Growth Team has assigned some software engineers to work on PageTriage, the software that powers the NewPagesFeed and the Page Curation toolbar. WMF has submitted dozens of patches in the last few weeks to modernize PageTriage's code, which will make it easier to write patches in the future. This work is helpful but is not very visible to the end user. For patches visible to the end user, volunteers such as Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have been writing patches for bug reports and feature requests. The Growth Team also had a video conference with the NPP coordinators to discuss revamping the landing pages that new users see.

"Municipal Pictures" listed at Redirects for discussion
editAn editor has identified a potential problem with the redirect Municipal Pictures and has thus listed it for discussion. This discussion will occur at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2023 January 17 § Municipal Pictures until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 13:14, 17 January 2023 (UTC)
Hi @Bungle:, sadly the draft article of American actor Si Jenks is lacking of information and sources to be summited, could you please help me improved? 190.140.147.233 (talk) 18:11, 6 February 2023 (UTC)
- @190.140.147.233: I have expanded the draft article with some career and personal info from historic sources, if this helps. Bungle (talk • contribs) 09:29, 11 February 2023 (UTC)
Copyright contributor investigation and Good article reassessment
editYou are receiving this message because you were a Good article reviewer on at least one article that is part of Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/20210315 or you signed up for messages. An AN discussion closed with consensus to delist this group of Good articles for copyright and other problems, unless a reviewer opens an independent Good article reassessment and can vouch for/verify content of all sources. Please review Wikipedia:Good article reassessment/February 2023 for further information. A list of the GA reviewers can be found here. Questions or comments can be made at the project talk page. You can opt in or out of further messages at this page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 09:20, 9 February 2023 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Burkinabes
editHello Bungle. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Burkinabes, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: While this WP:REDIRECT was created by a banned/blocked user - the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees also uses this term for displaced people in Burkina Faso - please see https://www.unhcr.org/en-au/news/stories/2022/1/61e5689c4/displaced-burkinabes-find-home-host-finds-purpose.html. This would appear to me to better discussed at WP:RFD . Thank you. User:Shirt58 (talk) 🦘 10:30, 16 February 2023 (UTC)
- @Shirt58: That's fine? While I am not too convinced that a news post by an individual is sufficient grounds for establishing the term as sufficiently notable, nor that the target is the most appropriate, I won't expressly object if you feel on a personal level the redirect has usefulness. Bungle (talk • contribs) 10:45, 16 February 2023 (UTC)
Speedy deletion declined: Slant-drilling
editHello Bungle. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Slant-drilling, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: As it's only a redirect, and is valid, deleting this seems pointless, even if it does meet the criteria. . Thank you. GedUK 16:04, 16 February 2023 (UTC)
- @Ged UK: It's worth noting that Slant drilling already exists as a redirect, which is a correct alternative, not Slant-drilling with the hyphen, which is both erroneous and created by someone in violation of a block. I am certainly not averse to accepting useful redirects made by editors who turn out to be blocked, but not really when it's not serving a purpose of benefit, as in this case. Bungle (talk • contribs) 17:08, 16 February 2023 (UTC)
Hi @Bungle:, I am making this draft for American actress Virginia Welles, but sadly is still lacking of information and sources for be summited as an article, could you please help me improve it? 186.188.178.109 (talk) 16:38, 22 February 2023 (UTC)
- @186.188.178.109: I have expanded it quite a bit using 3 good newspaper articles, so it at least covers the main aspects now. Hopefully this is enough to submit the draft. Maybe you could consider registering an account too? :) Bungle (talk • contribs) 19:16, 24 February 2023 (UTC)
- I second Bungle's suggestion to get an account. There are many benefits to having an account, a few being the community can better communicate with/help you, shortly after joining/editing you will be able to create article's directly in mainspace (or create in draft then move to mainspace) so will not need to go through AfC and eventually you can get access to the Library so you can research subjects and find sources. Not to mention all the other editing tools available. S0091 (talk) 19:27, 24 February 2023 (UTC)
- I think I have gone as far as required on this article now and hopefully will not be an issue to move into mainspace. I would definitely echo S0091 that having an account can, in time, afford access to historic material necessary for the development of articles such as this. Bungle (talk • contribs) 15:51, 26 February 2023 (UTC)

A cookie for you!
editThank you for your work on drafts and assisting the mysterious IP who is in regular need of help. From I have gathered, they come to editors to create drafts for them, get a good start on them, then come to you to help expand/improve them. A fantastic use of crowd-sourcing. :) S0091 (talk) 20:07, 22 February 2023 (UTC) |
- @S0091: That's kind of you, thank you. As my primary focus has generally been article development, then I don't mind expanding if there is enough source material searchable (it would be nice if the IP editor(s) would register an account rather than being anon though - if they are reading!) Bungle (talk • contribs) 22:44, 22 February 2023 (UTC)
Hi @Bungle:, sadly the article of Chinsese-American character actor H.W. Gim is lacking of information and sources, could you please help me improved? 190.140.147.233 (talk) 03:33, 27 February 2023 (UTC)
- @190.140.147.233: I would really appreciate it if you could register an account and have some identity, especially if you're asking me to develop articles for you (whether collaboratively or, as has been the case recently, mostly independently on my side). It would be nicer than communicating with an IP address :) Bungle (talk • contribs) 17:41, 27 February 2023 (UTC)
Wikimedia Foundation project to improve PageTriage
editHi, as an active New Page Patroller, I wanted to make sure you were aware of an upcoming Wikimedia Foundation project to improve the PageTriage extension. We recently published results of user interviews, and have some findings that we would value patrollers' opinions on. If you haven't yet, please consider adding the project page to your watchlist to stay up to date with our progress! Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 13:17, 2 March 2023 (UTC)
Hi @Bungle:, sadly the article of Chinese-American character actor H.W. Gim is lacking of information and sources, could you please help me improved? Bodroof (talk) 17:46, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Bodroof: Thank you for registering an account. I have a few article commitments at the moment so I would only take a look at available material once I have sorted those. There is no guarantee there will be sufficient source material though. Bungle (talk • contribs) 22:05, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Bodroof I did some work on this. I don't think there are sufficient sources for GNG but he meets NACTOR as a prolific character actor in at least 159 films. S0091 (talk) 19:27, 10 March 2023 (UTC)
Pinduoduo proposal feedback
editHi, I see that you’re an active member of the Retailing WikiProject and I was wondering if you might be willing to have a look at a proposal I just submitted to fix issues with the article for Pinduoduo. (I have a COI as an employee of Pinduoduo’s sister company Temu and am trying to adhere strictly to the rules, which is why I’ve made a proposal instead of editing the page myself.) As you might know, Pinduoduo is China’s biggest e-commerce company for agricultural produce, so I hope that you might find the subject matter intriguing given your interest in Retail. Thanks very much for your time! Snowy2000 (talk) 17:13, 10 March 2023 (UTC)
DYK for Frank Gadsby
editOn 18 March 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Frank Gadsby, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Frank Gadsby, nicknamed "Peggy", was a one-legged British stunt diver during the early 20th century? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Frank Gadsby. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Frank Gadsby), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
Southend
editHi! I was reading Southend Pier (I was there last week!) and wanted to say what a good you did with it. I don't think it would need a lot of work to get it up to featured article quality if that's something you had any interest in. I was wondering if you had any interest in the nearby Southend-on-Sea War Memorial. I still need to put the finishing touches to it but I'm hoping to take it to FAC when my current nomination wraps up. It would certainly benefit from a read through from someone who knows the area or some of the sources if you have any time or interest. Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 20:50, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
- @HJ Mitchell: Thank you for your kind words. It's a few years since I undertook quite extensive surgery on that article, as it was quite poorly when you dug a little below the surface. I must confess to having never visited the pier, nor anywhere particularly close to Southend, for that matter. I did go through a period of trying to clean up some pier-related articles and creating some new ones. It seemed reasonable that a pier of such prominence should be at GA-standard, or at least considerably better than it was. While I have a number of GA-class articles to my name, the featured status alludes me (alas I haven't exactly made any meaningful effort to propose one).
- Regarding the War Memorial article, i'd wonder how much may be extracted from historic newspapers, which I find invaluable for historic-subject articles. I think it'd be helpful to reduce the over-reliance on the Historic England source. Bungle (talk • contribs) 21:22, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
A barnstar for you!
editThe Writer's Barnstar | |
For your fine work on Southend Pier, which I happened to visit today, have a barnstar. A most informative and helpful article. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 17:17, 16 April 2023 (UTC) |
- @Ritchie333: That's very kind of you, thank you. I think my period of editing pier articles started when I saw the great job you did with Brighton Palace Pier, which encouraged me to develop the many other poorly pier articles, and write a few new ones. You likely don't remember, but I acknowledged this on your talk page back in August 2017 when I was looking to develop Southport Pier article! I may well have not progressed onto Southend Pier otherwise, so it's nice that this has come full circle. Bungle (talk • contribs) 17:29, 16 April 2023 (UTC)
Hello @Bungle:, could you please help me create an article for Austrio-Hungarian Jewish actress Gisela Werbisek, who appeared alonside Raymond Burr and Lon Chaney Jr. on the film Bride of the Gorilla? Votbek (talk) 04:32, 19 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Votbek: I have taken a look and while there isn't much reported about her, there may be enough to scrape WP:BASIC. I'll see what I can do. Seemed she may have been particularly more notable just for her name though! Bungle (talk • contribs) 17:23, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Votbek: I have just published a new article on her, using her better known name from her time in Europe, Gisela Werbezirk. Bungle (talk • contribs) 21:19, 23 April 2023 (UTC)

Lady Montague
editShakespeare's cultural weight is so enormous that this spelling of Montague has become standard. I turned the page to a disambig because, while looking for Lady Montagu, I was redirected to Lady Montague, not realizing there was an alternate spelling. For this reason, I am respectfully changing that page back to a disambig as I, an actual Wikipedia reader, was misdirected; a disambig would have been of more service to me. Thmazing (talk) 15:37, 29 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Thmazing, I'm not sure if you're aware that Lady Montagu is already a redirect to the article you were seemingly looking for, so quite why you have ended up being "misdirected", I am unsure. I guess my thought was that Lady Montague is very specific to the character, unlike the actual poet, who has a slightly different name and already has a shortened redirected term. That said, as the article in question was only a redirect, and not an article in its own right, I am not too concerned either way. Please also consider the pages that linked to this article which should now be disambiguated. Bungle (talk • contribs) 21:01, 29 April 2023 (UTC)
- That's a good point. I'll take care of it. Thmazing (talk) 21:47, 29 April 2023 (UTC)
- I fixed them all, but I'm going to think more about this. I suspect the problem you propose will be more common than my problem. Thmazing (talk) 21:51, 29 April 2023 (UTC)

Hello @Bungle:, sorry for the last time, but now could you please help me create an article for American actress Patricia Knox, who appeared in more than 36 films, including co-starring alonside Buster Crabbe and Al St. John on the film Gentlemen with Guns?Votbek (talk) 22:25, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Votbek: I'll take a look and see what is available for sourcing and if it's viable. No guarantees though, but will check. Bungle (talk • contribs) 22:44, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
- Hi again Bungle, maybe this might help? Votbek (talk) 06:30, 14 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Votbek: I did a quick skim yesterday and did find some hits, I just haven't explored them thoroughly yet. That said, I was a little uncertain with Gisela Werbezirk too at first, but she turned out to be both well covered and quite interesting! Bungle (talk • contribs) 06:39, 14 May 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @Bungle:, how is it going? Votbek (talk) 16:10, 21 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Votbek: Better than I thought. I have found some reasonable historic coverage that I am putting together; reckon I could post something in a few days, unless I start to question myself! Bungle (talk • contribs) 16:27, 21 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Votbek: It seems there may be more than one actress by this name from around that time, as I am seeing coverage which simply doesn't match up (hence the reason for the delay, as I can't publish something clearly wrong). The wikidata page suggests her DOB as 1926-08-06, so this link about a Patricia Knox actress can't be right, as this one married in 1938. Likewise, this article from 1955 says she was 22 at the time, so assumed DOB c.1933. I may end up doing a draft instead, however if it indeed appears to be there were 2 people, around the same time, with the same name and profession, it could be messy trying to untangle that. I think the marriage coverage is someone entirely different and the actress in question is the sister of Ronnie Knox. Bungle (talk • contribs) 17:56, 26 May 2023 (UTC)
- I understand, so what if instead you help me create an article for actor William Hall (do not confuse with William Hall (actor)) who was the lead in Escape by Night and has more of 68 credits? Votbek (talk) 04:21, 30 May 2023 (UTC)
- Sure, i'll take a look. Could be confusing maybe with the newer actor, but this older actor was born William Langan, so I guess that is potentially an article title with appropriate redirects, if it's viable. Bungle (talk • contribs) 08:36, 30 May 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @Bungle:, how is it going with the article of William Langan, better? Votbek (talk) 04:40, 7 June 2023 (UTC)
- I have a draft in notepad, but will probably publish to draftspace first as needs some fine tuning, but I am confident an article on this individual is viable, based on the source material I have already found. Bungle (talk • contribs) 21:16, 7 June 2023 (UTC)

William Hall (actor)
editVotbek: I have published a first draft at Draft:William Langan. It's already fairly comprehensive, as sources are pretty decent, so an article is most certainly viable. I am not too sure what ultimate article title we'll have yet, as there is also a current actor called William Langan too. We'll use that for the moment and maybe for the main article as it's a vacant title. Feel free to expand the filmography. I still need to expand from the sources and tidy up the prose. Bungle (talk • contribs) 21:25, 15 June 2023 (UTC)
- Maybe I was thinking a title like this one (Paul Smith (American actor, born 1929)) can give us an idea. Votbek (talk) 01:22, 16 June 2023 (UTC)
- Or we can leave the title like that as he was the first one. Votbek (talk) 13:58, 18 June 2023 (UTC)
- Also the other William Langan hasn't had yet a notably career to have an article. Votbek (talk) 14:01, 18 June 2023 (UTC)
- True, but this person was really only known as "William Hall", so I still am unsure if we go with a redirect to a title you suggest or place him at William Langan until the modern actor has an article. Also I still want to expand the article more and tidy the prose, so i'll publish to mainspace once done (please don't AfC submit, but feel free to expand further). Thanks. Bungle (talk • contribs) 14:18, 18 June 2023 (UTC)
- Yeah, sorry for that, also I was thinking that you can redirect the article to this title:William Hall (actor, born 1903) Votbek (talk) 16:01, 18 June 2023 (UTC)
- It may even be a call to make the current William Hall (actor) article a DAB, as that person has very few pageviews so can't be seen as a clear primary topic. Also, don't worry about adding the AfC notice - i'll publish to mainspace under a suitable title once it's tidied up. It isn't necessary to clog up AfC for this. Bungle (talk • contribs) 18:02, 18 June 2023 (UTC)
- Ok, thank you, I will continue to expand the filmography before being pulbish to mainspace with a suitable title. Votbek (talk) 12:38, 19 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Votbek: I have pretty much finished what I wanted to do with this now, and plan to publish soon, perhaps under a title akin to your suggestion above (and I may then make William Hall (actor) a DAB, as that individual isn't especially notable). Feel free to make any adjustments, such as to filmography in the meantime. Bungle (talk • contribs) 21:35, 2 July 2023 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter June 2023
editHello Bungle,
Backlog
Redirect drive: In response to an unusually high redirect backlog, we held a redirect backlog drive in May. The drive completed with 23851 reviews done in total, bringing the redirect backlog to 0 (momentarily). Congratulations to Hey man im josh who led with a staggering 4316 points, followed by Meena and Greyzxq with 2868 and 2546 points respectively. See this page for more details. The redirect queue is steadily rising again and is steadily approaching 4,000. Please continue to help out, even if it's only for a few or even one review a day.
Redirect autopatrol: All administrators without autopatrol have now been added to the redirect autopatrol list. If you see any users who consistently create significant amounts of good quality redirects, consider requesting redirect autopatrol for them here.
WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team, consisting of Sam, Jason and Susana, and also some patches from Jon, has been hard at work updating PageTriage. They are focusing their efforts on modernising the extension's code rather than on bug fixes or new features, though some user-facing work will be prioritised. This will help make sure that this extension is not deprecated, and is easier to work on in the future. In the next month or so, we will have an opt-in beta test where new page patrollers can help test the rewrite of Special:NewPagesFeed, to help find bugs. We will post more details at WT:NPPR when we are ready for beta testers.
Articles for Creation (AFC): All new page reviewers are now automatically approved for Articles for Creation draft reviewing (you do not need to apply at WT:AFCP like was required previously). To install the AFC helper script, visit Special:Preferences, visit the Gadgets tab, tick "Yet Another AFC Helper Script", then click "Save". To find drafts to review, visit Special:NewPagesFeed, and at the top left, tick "Articles for Creation". To review a draft, visit a submitted draft, click on the "More" menu, then click "Review (AFCH)". You can also comment on and submit drafts that are unsubmitted using the script.
You can review the AFC workflow at WP:AFCR. It is up to you if you also want to mark your AFC accepts as NPP reviewed (this is allowed but optional, depends if you would like a second set of eyes on your accept). Don't forget that draftspace is optional, so moves of drafts to mainspace (even if they are not ready) should not be reverted, except possibly if there is conflict of interest.
Pro tip: Did you know that visual artists such as painters have their own SNG? The most common part of this "creative professionals" criteria that applies to artists is WP:ARTIST 4b (solo exhibition, not group exhibition, at a major museum) or 4d (being represented within the permanent collections of two museums).

Regarding 'Rajputra'
editHello Bungle, I would like to inform you that I have reverted your edit in Rajputra since the redirect was an undue one, created in order to promote the Rajput caste! This has recently been discussed (see User talk:Bishonen) and the editor Dympies was blocked for the same as per WP:GS/CASTE! Thanks & Regards. Ekdalian (talk) 18:32, 25 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Ekdalian: I'm indifferent to that if I am being honest (and I even said in the edit summary that if it's reverted, with a expectation it may be, then AfD may be the better route). I am struggling to follow the discussion on Bishonen's talk page, but it seems to mostly relate to editing behaviour by Dympies than specifically about this article in question. I saw this in NPP and happened to agree with the concern around WP:NOTDICT but I didn't feel a PROD was appropriate, as it's clearly not uncontroversial and had been a redirect since 2006 (that's a long time).
- Ironically, this is now back to being PROD through your revert, despite your clear objection. Bungle (talk • contribs) 19:14, 25 June 2023 (UTC)

DYK for Gisela Werbezirk
editOn 2 July 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Gisela Werbezirk, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Austro-Hungarian actress Gisela Werbezirk claimed to receive up to 20 prank calls a day about her married name, Gisela Werbezirk Piffl? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Gisela Werbezirk. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Gisela Werbezirk), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
Hello again @Bungle:, thank you for the article of William Hall (actor, born 1903), now can you help me improve this draft of American actor Draft:Ed Cassidy (actor)?, because sadly the draft is still lacking of reliable information and sources for to be summited. Votbek (talk) 16:24, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
- Hi, I have one or two potential new articles I am considering at the moment, so I want to try and see if I can get them done before I look at something else. I see the article in question was sent to draft and already has a promising foundation, so probably just a case of asserting notability. Bungle (talk • contribs) 09:22, 8 July 2023 (UTC)

New pages patrol newsletter
editHello Bungle,
Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!
October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.
PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.
Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.
Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.
Reminders:
- You can access live chat with patrollers on the New Page Patrol Discord.
- Consider adding the project discussion page to your watchlist.

Actress Inez Cooper
editHi Bungle, could you please create an article for American actress Inez Cooper, who appeared in 22 films? Votbek (talk) 09:59, 14 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Votbek: I'll certainly take a look at this. I see she was the lead role in Wings Over the Pacific, so i'd like to think we can assert notability on that at least. I'll see if it's viable to put a draft together. Bungle (talk • contribs) 11:57, 15 October 2023 (UTC)
- There are a few decent historic newspaper clips such as this, this and this which should be enough to flesh out at least something of start class, I reckon. Bungle (talk • contribs) 18:00, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Votbek: I have been casually building this up over the past few weeks, and have now finally published the article. There was a reasonable amount of source material to be found, despite her relatively unremarkable career. Not sure about 22 films though, or at least not that many notable ones! Bungle (talk • contribs) 18:56, 19 November 2023 (UTC)

November Articles for creation backlog drive
editHello Bungle:
WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 2 months outstanding reviews from the current 4+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 November 2023 through 30 November 2023.
You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.
Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.
Thank you for checking over this article! I see another editor suggested to adding an image to the article. What do you think would be the best possible way? Would a non-free file be suitable? Similar to how this one was added at Ahamed Samsudeen. Thank you! ArleneHerman (talk) 21:34, 31 October 2023 (UTC)
- @ArleneHerman, I didn't so much look at the target article you linked, but tried to make the redirect of the person slightly more specific, with tags. Realistically, I can't see how you could add anything other than non-free, unless a member of the public happened to get a shot of the individual in a public place and uploaded it with an open license. Any image used from the media, unless stated otherwise, would have to pass the strict non-free image criteria (but possible). Bungle (talk • contribs) 21:39, 31 October 2023 (UTC)
- Yea! That's what I'm thinking too @Bungle. Thank you! I'll look into what might work! Thanks again! ArleneHerman (talk) 21:43, 31 October 2023 (UTC)

Malvina Kaplan page
editHey, I thought I changed the page enough, I'll keep working on it. Sorry thought it was already good enough as a stub for now. Thanks for the heads up and for having informed me :).
Homerethegreat (talk) 19:02, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Homerethegreat: I checked this before tagging, and the comparisons are so closely related, that it's very clearly still a violation. The changes you alluded to are unfortunately too obvious when looking at the source material side-by-side and fall way short of even barely acceptable paraphrasing. Bungle (talk • contribs) 19:05, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
- I see, I think you're right. Obviously not enough was changed. I have further worked on it now and will continue doing so. Please feel free to check and decide if you feel the progress has been adequate enough. Homerethegreat (talk) 19:19, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Homerethegreat: Still too close for me. Changing the odd word here and there isn't really enough, when blocks of sentences are broadly aligned with the source material. You can enter the article on https://copyvios.toolforge.org/ and see this yourself. The percentage comparison has decreased, but it highlights too much similarities, in my opinion. I appreciate paraphrasing can be a challenge, and I don't profess to be an expert in this either, but this is clearly too close. Bungle (talk • contribs) 19:24, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
- I ran it now and it said it's 22.5%.
- I've tried rearranging, shifting and changing much of the language. Hopefully it's alright now. Although some chronological aspects (in respect to her time during the holocaust) I fear to change in order to not mistakenly distort her story.
- (Of course I appreciate the time you're dedicating for this, thanks for the big help).
- Thank you for helping me improve the article :) Homerethegreat (talk) 19:39, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Homerethegreat, lets consider:
- Source material: "In 1944, Malvina's Jewish identity was discovered and she was deported to Auschwitz, Ravensbruck and Malchow. In the spring of 1945, she was saved by a rescue operation organized by Count Bernadotte"
- Wiki article: "..in 1944, Malvina's Jewish identity was discovered and she was subsequently deported to Auschwitz, Ravensbruck and then to Malchow. In the spring of 1945, she was saved in a rescue operation organized by the Count Bernadotte"
- If you can do something about that, then maybe it won't be something to delete in entirety, and just revision deletions of the offending material. Bungle (talk • contribs) 19:48, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
- Alright, but except that sentence, the rest is ok? I checked the copyvios.tool and it's now 14.5%, it says violation unlikely. Homerethegreat (talk) 19:56, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Homerethegreat, I guess it's an adequate improvement. Don't pay much attention to the "violation unlikely" message, as this is just a guide. I still think you could further improve the prose so it's more distant from the source material, but I guess we can just look at revdel now. Bungle (talk • contribs) 20:03, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
- What is revdel?
- Emm, in the program you sent it put emphasis on a sentence or two that I think should stay the same. The Artists' Quarter of Safed, is the name of the place for example. Homerethegreat (talk) 20:08, 4 November 2023 (UTC)

Women in Red
editHi there, Bungle, and welcome to Women in Red. I see that you have in fact been writing detailed articles about women, particularly actresses, for quite some time but only now have added the WiR template to your user page. It's good to have you as a member and I look forward to many more women's biographies. If you wish, you can also sign up under "New registrations" on Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/New members where others will be able to see your interest in the project. Please let me know if ever you think I can help you out with anything. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 07:46, 25 November 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks Ipigott. You may not remember, but just barely over 2 years ago, you invited me to join the project following an afd we were involved in and after I expanded some articles on women at the time. This actually lead me into developing some from scratch (helped by the suggestions of a particular editor on my talk page), so I guess I sort of joined in November 2021, just unofficially ;) Bungle (talk • contribs) 17:15, 25 November 2023 (UTC)
- Well now that you've included the WiR template on your talk page, you can consider yourself a member. Keep up the good work!--Ipigott (talk) 06:18, 26 November 2023 (UTC)

RFA2024 update: no longer accepting new proposals in phase I
editHey there! This is to let you know that phase I of the 2024 requests for adminship (RfA) review is now no longer accepting new proposals. Lots of proposals remain open for discussion, and the current round of review looks to be on a good track towards making significant progress towards improving RfA's structure and environment. I'd like to give my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has given us their idea for change to make RfA better, and the same to everyone who has given the necessary feedback to improve those ideas. The following proposals remain open for discussion:
- Proposal 2, initiated by HouseBlaster, provides for the addition of a text box at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship reminding all editors of our policies and enforcement mechanisms around decorum.
- Proposals 3 and 3b, initiated by Barkeep49 and Usedtobecool, respectively, provide for trials of discussion-only periods at RfA. The first would add three extra discussion-only days to the beginning, while the second would convert the first two days to discussion-only.
- Proposal 5, initiated by SilkTork, provides for a trial of RfAs without threaded discussion in the voting sections.
- Proposals 6c and 6d, initiated by BilledMammal, provide for allowing users to be selected as provisional admins for a limited time through various concrete selection criteria and smaller-scale vetting.
- Proposal 7, initiated by Lee Vilenski, provides for the "General discussion" section being broken up with section headings.
- Proposal 9b, initiated by Reaper Eternal, provides for the requirement that allegations of policy violation be substantiated with appropriate links to where the alleged misconduct occured.
- Proposals 12c, 21, and 21b, initiated by City of Silver, Ritchie333, and HouseBlaster, respectively, provide for reducing the discretionary zone, which currently extends from 65% to 75%. The first would reduce it 65%–70%, the second would reduce it to 50%–66%, and the third would reduce it to 60%–70%.
- Proposal 13, initiated by Novem Lingaue, provides for periodic, privately balloted admin elections.
- Proposal 14, initiated by Kusma, provides for the creation of some minimum suffrage requirements to cast a vote.
- Proposals 16 and 16c, initiated by Thebiguglyalien and Soni, respectively, provide for community-based admin desysop procedures. 16 would desysop where consensus is established in favor at the administrators' noticeboard; 16c would allow a petition to force reconfirmation.
- Proposal 16e, initiated by BilledMammal, would extend the recall procedures of 16 to bureaucrats.
- Proposal 17, initiated by SchroCat, provides for "on-call" admins and 'crats to monitor RfAs for decorum.
- Proposal 18, initiated by theleekycauldron, provides for lowering the RfB target from 85% to 75%.
- Proposal 24, initiated by SportingFlyer, provides for a more robust alternate version of the optional candidate poll.
- Proposal 25, initiated by Femke, provides for the requirement that nominees be extended-confirmed in addition to their nominators.
- Proposal 27, initiated by WereSpielChequers, provides for the creation of a training course for admin hopefuls, as well as periodic retraining to keep admins from drifting out of sync with community norms.
- Proposal 28, initiated by HouseBlaster, tightens restrictions on multi-part questions.
To read proposals that were closed as unsuccessful, please see Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/2024 review/Phase I/Closed proposals. You are cordially invited once again to participate in the open discussions; when phase I ends, phase II will review the outcomes of trial proposals and refine the implementation details of other proposals. Another notification will be sent out when this phase begins, likely with the first successful close of a major proposal. Happy editing! theleekycauldron (talk • she/her), via:

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024
editHello Bungle,
Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.
Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.
Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.
It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!
2023 Awards
Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!
WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.
Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.
Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.
Reminders:
- You can access live chat with patrollers on the New Pages Patrol Discord.
- Consider adding the project discussion page to your watchlist.

RFA2024 update: phase I concluded, phase II begins
editHi there! Phase I of the Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/2024 review has concluded, with several impactful changes gaining community consensus and proceeding to various stages of implementation. Some proposals will be implemented in full outright; others will be discussed at phase II before being implemented; and still others will proceed on a trial basis before being brought to phase II. The following proposals have gained consensus:
- Proposals 2 and 9b (phase II discussion): Add a reminder of civility norms at RfA and Require links for claims of specific policy violations
- Proposal 3b (in trial): Make the first two days discussion-only
- Proposal 13 (in trial): Admin elections
- Proposal 14 (implemented): Suffrage requirements
- Proposals 16 and 16c (phase II discussion): Allow the community to initiate recall RfAs and Community recall process based on dewiki
- Proposal 17 (phase II discussion): Have named Admins/crats to monitor infractions
- Proposal 24 (phase II discussion): Provide better mentoring for becoming an admin and the RfA process
- Proposal 25 (implemented): Require nominees to be extended confirmed
See the project page for a full list of proposals and their outcomes. A huge thank-you to everyone who has participated so far :) looking forward to seeing lots of hard work become a reality in phase II. theleekycauldron (talk), via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 08:08, 5 May 2024 (UTC)

Hello @Bungle:, could you please help me create an article for American actor Robert Strange, who appeared in films with high profile actor such as Special Agent (alongside Bette Davis and George Brent), High Sierra (alongside Ida Lupino and Humphrey Bogart), Adventures of Captain Marvel (alongside Tom Tyler and Frank Coghlan, Jr.) and The Mad Monster (alongside George Zucco and Glenn Strange)? P.S.:I would really like your help because according to IMDB there is a much modern actor with the same name. CheAjlt (talk) 22:47, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
- I can take a look when I get a moment. If the other actor by same name is more contemporary, it should not conflate with historic sources, I hope. Bungle (talk • contribs) 16:15, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
- Ok, thank you very much!! CheAjlt (talk) 17:09, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
- I'm not really seeing WP:SIGCOV on this individual needed to create an article. Mostly just passing mentions, no clear assertion of notability. His film roles seemed to have been limited to supporting, rather than any leading. There appears to have been a playing ground by the same name (curiously), around the same period, which further overstates the search returns. Bungle (talk • contribs) 19:55, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
- I know, but I think it’s still possible to do him an article, there are much other individuals with lesser notabilty that do have articles, such as Fay Webb, who only had one uncredited film role. CheAjlt (talk) 22:35, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
- As you may have observed, I'm only interested in writing articles with a meaningful amount of content and information, rather than a stub. Notability isn't directly linked to profession, and in the case of Fay Webb, her marriage, separation and divorce made mainstream media news for several years and was very well reported. She is not notable as an actress, and the article doesn't state this. With Robert Strange, there is little I am seeing about how we could assert him as notable.
- I have no issue creating an article on a late individual from a bygone era, as evidenced by my creations, if there are sources which clearly support they were notable in some capacity. Bungle (talk • contribs) 06:27, 11 June 2024 (UTC)

I restored your redirect because I agree with your edit summary "per WP:NFILM, as multiple news outlets reporting a possible production date from 2024. No clear or reliable indication shooting/filming has actually started." I don't even think multiple outlets are really reporting a production date of 2024; they're just repeating off-hand predictions made by Mel Gibson or Jim Caviezel, who have been making these vague predictions for years. I do not edit very often. Is there a way to ensure no one will revert that redirect until the supposed film actually starts shooting? Andrew Englehart (talk) 15:18, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Andrew Englehart, I hadn't realised this was recreated back in April, else I would have reassessed this (I think I did last October when I saw it in WP:NPP). I still don't think we can have an article on this while no filming has taken place, nor any reliable idea if it even will. I guess if someone persists in recreation and if it continues to fall foul of WP:NFF then WP:RFPP may be an option, if we want to keep the redirect instead of salting.
