Great photos of the tank collection at Yad La-Shiryon; I used some of them in the English Wikipedia article about the site. It could still use a photo of the tank on the tower, if you have one. AshcroftIleum 07:25, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Help with Self-propelled artillery
editHave you any time to put a bit of work into the above. I've done a bit of copyedit but the bit on Soviet Self-propelled needs work. I am acquainted with the SU guns but I know of no examples of Red Army guns like the Sexton (artillery) and I wondered if there was readily understandable reason why these were not developed. GraemeLeggett 13:48, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I'm neither an expert on Soviet SP artillery nor an experienced editor (which the article is in need of, IMHO), but I'll see what I can do.
- As for your question why Soviets didn't develop designated indirect fire SP guns... my "educated guess" is that Soviets tried to concentrate on a limited number of models and make them as universal as possible. It fitted their industry structure with relatively few relatively huge factories, it fitted the circumstances - the urgent need to outproduce the Germans despite lack of experienced workers, and of course it lessened maintenance problems.
- With towed guns it actually started before the war. Soviet divisional field artillery piece was not a designated indirect fire weapon such as American or German 105 mm pieces or to lesser degree the British 25 pounder, but a series of 76 mm guns such as the ZiS-3 which obviously had weaker HE shell but could be used as AT gun and was pretty decent in this role. Their corps-level (A-19) and army-level (ML-20) pieces were dual-purpose too, although more geared for the indirect fire. It continued with AFVs. Since Barbarossa, more or less every factory that was able to produce T-34, produced T-34 (with the exception of KV and later IS). Those that couldn't, produced light T-60/T-70. Armored cars, gun tractors etc were nearly abandoned. In 1942 Soviet started to launch large-scale offensives and recognized the need for more powerful assault guns so they developed the "naked ass Ferdinand" (oh, I like the sound of that...) SU-76 (ZiS-3 on modified T-70 chassis) and the SU-152 (ML-20 on KV chassis) and later the ISUs. Just like the towed guns they carried, these were built as all-purpose tools that could act both as assault guns (their primary role), as tank destroyers and as indirect fire artillery.
- So the short answer is: instead of building designated light assault gun, designated light SP artillery and designated light tank destroyer as separate vehicles, they merged them into one and called it SU-76 :). The same for heavy SU/ISU-152. Bukvoed 17:09, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

ZiS-2 article improvent
- LostArtilleryman 04:59, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
Bukvoed 08:35, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
LostArtilleryman 11:09, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
Bukvoed 12:25, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
LostArtilleryman 13:06, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
Bukvoed 13:37, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

My Interest in Hebrew
editShalom aleichem שלום עליכם , Hi Bukvoed Can you help me please, Can you translate my name in Hebrew as I found an Interest in the language, my name is Abdullah Geelah, can you translate it in Hebrew plzzzzzzzz. --Abdullah Geelah 21:41, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
- You mean you want to know how your name is written in Hebrew ? Well, Abdullah becomes עבדאללה . I'm not completely sure about the last name. Since I don't know how your last name is written in Arabic (and - more important - I cannot read Arabic anyway), and I'm even not sure how do you pronounce it, I can only guess. Perhaps גילה ?
- The direct translation of Abdullah ("servant of god" ?) to Hebrew probably would be עובד אלוהים (pronounced Oh-VED Eh-loh-HIM). Now the last name... Unfortunately I have no idea what it means.
- If you want to know what Hebrew name is the closest to yours in meaning, it's probably עובדיה (pronounced Oh-VAH-dee-ah, spelled Ovadiah or Ovadia or Obadiah or... , also meaning "servant of god"). Bukvoed 05:38, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:37mm m1930 (1-K) gun.jpg
editThanks for uploading Image:37mm m1930 (1-K) gun.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. new toy

Implemented in an article it can look like in Mongol bow (including some misunderstanding) or Indian Wars. While we (mostly me) think it is a great thing (contrary to the long frustrating negotiations for images that can not keep up with the rapid expansion of articles and new requests), it would require some people to use it and not overdo it. You just have to google missing images and insert the url with a short description. I would really appreciate it, especially for the feedback. Thank you a lot. Your Source Lacks Credibility
editYou recently edited the King Armored Car, saying it was not America's first AFV. But it was. I checked out the warwheels website and it is not credible. The page says the Davidson Auto Battery Armored Car has only one (1) machine gun, but two (2) machine guns are plainly visible on the picture THEY provided. And furthermore, the vehicle is hardly armored. According to the picture provided, the only armor on the vehicle was underneath and in front of the guns. This hardly qualifies it as an armored vehicle. That leaves one other vehicle listed as being made before 1915 for which they provide information: the Davidson-Cadillac Armored Car. According to the website http://www.car-nection.com/yann/Dbas_txt/Factd-g.htm, this vehicle was not developed until 1915. And on the warwheels website, once you actually click on the Davidson-Cadillac Armored Car hyperlink (which is in the 1914 category), it's page says 1915. So the website is clearly not a credible source. --MKnight9989 12:35, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
- If this is the picture of the Davidson Auto Battery you talk about - http://www.warwheels.net/DavidsonAutoBatteryINDEX.html - it shows two vehicles each mounting a single MG, doesn't it ? Anyway, I agree that the vehicle was "mostly unarmored" and therefore IMHO not a real armored car.
- I admit I'm not really an expert on WWI-era US armored cars, but it seems for many of them it is quite hard to say exactly when they were built. E.g. for the Davidson-Cadillac, Hunnicutt (Armored Car, A History of American Wheeled Combat Vehicles) says it was completed in 1914, but articles found on the web ( e.g. http://www.landships.freeservers.com/Davidson-Cadillac_trigsby.htm - which btw clearly names it "the first fully armoured motor vehicle to be built in the U.S.A.") typically prefer 1915. For Jeffery it is the other way round - http://www.landships.freeservers.com/new_pages/jeffrey_ac_no1_info.htm says 1914, Hunnicutt 1915. The Mack Armored Car : Warwheels ( http://www.warwheels.net/USAacChronologyHAUGH.html ) : 1915, Hunnicutt: in use in 1916. And no, I didn't forget the King Armored Car... 1915 if we trust your source (is it Semper Fi ?), 1916 according to Warwheels, and Hunnicutt... well... he says 1917 and on the same page provides photos from late 1916 :). To sum it up - hardly a perfectly clear picture :) ... and still, it seems not very probable that the King was the earliest of those designs.
- So, I replaced a "strong" claim - "the first" - with a "weaker" one - "one of the first". But if you are sure that the stronger claim is right... well... I'd like to see some supporting evidence, but in any case, at least right now I'm not going to interfere. Bukvoed 19:36, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
I guess that picture does show two car, not one; I feel like a blind ass for that one. The book I used as reference has been correct in almost every aspect; I've found just one mistake. This record makes it difficult for me to believe it is wrong, but as I speak (well, type) I'm trying to find more information on the internet about the KAC, but so far I've come up a tad bit short. --MKnight9989 12:37, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Featured? LostArtilleryman 06:26, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
Bukvoed 07:17, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
:(. Bukvoed 12:07, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Tel Aviv coatofarms.jpg
editThanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Tel Aviv coatofarms.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use.
Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Moe ε 23:09, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

editI do intend, eventually, to get to the items on my wishlist. Can you remove any items that we have pictures of now? Also, I realized yesterday - are there any medals or other decorations for which we lack pictures? - Just removed the items. As for awards, I'm affraid I can't help, except pointing to the Category:Military decorations, which, however, seems too big to check all of it in a reasonable time. Bukvoed 08:25, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of 21 cm Mörser 10, and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: 21 cm Mörser 16. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.
This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 09:26, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Barrikady Industrial Association
editA tag has been placed on Barrikady Industrial Association requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. fr33kman (talk) 15:54, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the warning, though it didn't really help... The deletion was quite speedy indeed...
- The company is a prominent manufacturer of military equipment, active since WWI period. IMHO, if it is not notable, than most of the items in Category:Defence companies of the Soviet Union are not notable too. The company was mentioned in a number of articles about Soviet artillery ordnance, so I created a stub article and linked it from some of the relevant articles, hoping that one day somebody else will expand it. Perhaps I should have included more information to indicate its notability, but I hoped that the fact that the article is linked from a number of other articles and has a "sibling" in ruWiki will be enough for the time being. Turns out I was wrong... Bukvoed (talk) 06:37, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

M22 Locust
editHi there! I'm trying to fix up M22 Locust to get it to GA status; it's going well at the moment, but I see that the article states that several M22s were used by Egyptian and Israeli forces in the late 1940s and early 1950s. But I have no sources for the M22 describing what it does post 1945 and absolutely nothing about it being used by Israel or Egypt. I saw you took several pictures of an M22 in Israel, and I was wondering if you could help me out. You don't happen to have any sources about the use of the Locust post-1945, do you? Thanks for any help, Skinny87 (talk) 09:17, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
- Theoretically, there are enough sources confirming use of Locust by Egypt in the war of 1948, from books (Zaloga - Armour of the Middle East Wars 1948-78 definitely mentions it... I'll try to locate a specific info/page) to photos of destroyed / captured vehicles (I remember seeing these photos, but web search yields nothing... and anyway I doubt these photos are public domain). Israeli use is more esoteric. The only source I have is an online article in Russian by Oleg Granovsky [1], which says that 9 Locusts were captured in operations Asaf and Horev (Dec 1948 to Jan 1949), that on 1 Mar 1949 IDF possessed 1 Locust in order and 2 more under repair, and that all tanks except Shermans were withdrawn by 1952. Bukvoed (talk) 07:09, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
- Cheers. Any info would be greatly appreciated, otherwise I won't be able to finish the article. Unfortunately, I can't read Russian - I'll see if anyone can do a translation. Skinny87 (talk) 11:35, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
- OK, here we go.
- Zaloga, Steven J - Armour of the Middle East Wars 1948-78 Osprey Publishing 1981 Vanguard 019 ISBN 0-85045-388-7:
- The Egyptian Army had been founded in 1936, and in 1937 its first armored units were formed around a small number of Vickers Mk II medium and Vickers Mk V light tanks. By 1948 none of these were still serviceable, but they had been replaced by a rummage-sale assortment of British hand-me-downs totalling about 200 vehicles. The most numerous types were light tanks like the old Light Tank Mk VI and the M22 Locust airborne tank. (pp 4-5)
- The Egyptian Army now [mid 1948] constituted the greatest treat to Israeli plans. Its armored strength in Palestine now amounted to three Shermans, 132 light tanks (mostly Mk VIs, Locusts and Valentines) and 139 Bren carriers. (p 8)
- Baryatinskiy, M - Bronetankovaya tehnika SSHA 1939-1945 (US Armor 1939-1945), Modelist-Konstruktor Bronekollektsiya 03-1997:
- Later the British transferred a number of tanks to the Belgian Army, from there M22 were supplied to Egypt where they remained in service until 1956. (p 7) (So, Egypt received M22 via Belgians ? I'd like to see a confirmation...)
- Granovskiy, Oleg - Obzor bronetankovoy tehniki AOI (IDF armor overview) Russian:
- In addition to Shermans... the following models of tanks were in [IDF] service in 1948-1952: ... Up to 3 M22 (T9E1) Locust tanks (captured Egyptian; 9 of those tanks were hit and captured in operations Asaf (5-7.12.48) and Horev (22.12.48-7.1.49); were used after the end of the war). On 1 March 1949 one tank of this type was listed as being in order, 2 more - under repair. ... All these tanks were removed from service in 1952, leaving Sherman as the only tank model in the IDF (until first AMX-13 were received).
- Bukvoed (talk) 19:50, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
- Cheers. Any info would be greatly appreciated, otherwise I won't be able to finish the article. Unfortunately, I can't read Russian - I'll see if anyone can do a translation. Skinny87 (talk) 11:35, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
(outdent) You, sir, are a marvel and a genius. I will start using those citations as soon as I can. Thanks! Skinny87 (talk) 07:41, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
- More:
- Brezner, Amiad - Operation Asaf, Shiryon magazine, 07/1999 Russian, with a photo of a captured Locust:
- On 6th December [1948] Egyptian infantry, supported by Locust tanks, launched a counterattack against positions at Sheikh Nuran and Khirbet Maain. There was no information that the Egyptian Army possesses these tanks, and their appearance on the battlefield was an unpleasant surprise. Nevertheless, the attack was stopped when a half-track of the 8th brigade, armed with a 6 pounder gun, managed to hit 5 tanks. One Egyptian tank which penetrated Sheikh Nuran was hit by anti-tank grenade launcher.
- Later the article describes an Israeli counter-attack a day later and mentions 2 captured tanks, but does not say explicitly that these were Locusts.
- Brezner, Amiad - Nitsaney Shiryon (Birth of Armored Corps) page 228 mentions a single Locust in the 8th brigade of IDF on 1.3.49 and two under repair. via a forum in Russian, no exact citation
- Ostfeld, Zahava - Tsava Nolad (An Army is Born) page 839 also mentions one Locust in the 8th brigade of IDF on 1.3.49. same source
- Bukvoed (talk) 14:42, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
Hey, sorry to bump this up again, but I'm putting the Locust through an A-Class Review. I used the Zaloga because it's a reliable source, but I haven't used the Russian forums because forums usually aren't reliable, especially when information is coming third or fourth hand. Would you consider there to be a case for any of the forums being reliable sources, so that they could be used to expand a liuttle on Egyptian and especially Israeli use? Do any of the articles have citations at the bottom of them, for example? Skinny87 (talk) 17:41, 30 September 2009 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Lev Gorlitsky
editA proposed deletion template has been added to the article Lev Gorlitsky, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:
- non notable biography
All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}

Can you identify this WWII gun ? Belgian upgrade of 77mm FK 16 ?
editHi, I'm trying to identify the gun in this photo gun uploaded to Commons.. Uploader says it's in Warneton, Belgium. Is it a modernised version of the German 77mm FK 16 ? Apparently Belgium received some after WWI and upgraded them as Canon de 75mm mle GPFIII. This gun and site appears well preserved so it must have some significance to Belgium. regards, Rod. Rcbutcher (talk) 07:48, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
- Could this be a moderenised version of a Skoda 14/19 100 mm howitzer ? Barrel, recoil mechanism & carriage look right. See : .
- Sorry, I could not identify the gun. I agree that it can be related to Skoda vz 14. Bukvoed (talk) 18:08, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
- It is definitely a modernised 100mm Skoda 14/19 or something very similar - Poland modernised it as 100mm Skoda 100/24 wz. 14/19 : [2] How this got to Belgium I dcan't imagine. Rod. Rcbutcher (talk) 18:10, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
- Well.... two years passed... now I know what it was :). Post-war Italian modernization of the Skoda, called Obice da 105/22 mod 14/61. See [3]. Bukvoed (talk) 12:15, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. March Madness 2017
editG'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:
- tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
- updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
- creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.
As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.
The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.
The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.
For the Milhist co-ordinators. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) & MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 07:24, 26 February 2017 (UTC)
