Precious

Six years!

--Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:12, 5 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thank you today for When Megan Went Away, introduce: "If you were around in the United States in the late '80s or early '90s, you may recall a fracas about early children's picturebooks like Heather Has Two Mommies (1989) or Daddy's Roommate (1990) that drew heat from conservative interests for depicting gay parents. Causing significantly less of a fracas, however, was the first picturebook to ever depict an LGBT+ character, 1979's When Megan Went Away by Jane Severance. Flying under the radar because of meager promotion from its independent publisher, mediocre reception for its story and art, and less than happy subject matter (the protagonist's mother separating from her lover), Megan nonetheless offers a window into lesbian life in Severance's community in the late '70s and stands as an important first step for the medium of queer kids' books which continue to receive challenge and derision from conservative interests as the number and diversity of these stories expand."! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:03, 26 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Great to see the TFA today - and nice you've found a good image of the author too. I'm glad I had second thoughts about opposing it first time round - it is certainly a worthy FA! Cheers - SchroCat (talk) 20:07, 26 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thank you SchroCat! It wasn't quite FA quality when we started the FA review process, so no worries on that – we do this thing together to make our information better! —Collint c 20:55, 26 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

August 2023 Good Article Nominations Backlog Drive reminder

edit

The August 2023 Good Article Nominations Backlog Drive is at the halfway mark, and has seen incredible progress, dropping the backlog from 638 to 359 unreviewed articles -- a 43.7% reduction in only fifteen days! But we still have over two weeks to go, and there are plenty of articles left to review:

  • We've gone from 14 nominations 270+ days old and 65 nominations 180+ days old to 2 and 0 respectively. No more articles will reach 270+ status during the drive, and only three more will reach 180+ if unreviewed, so this is your last chance to get the higher age bonuses!
  • We still have plenty of articles in the 90+ range, but the list is shrinking fast.
  • Some articles need new reviewers, either because they're officially on second opinion or because the original reviews were deleted or invalidated. You can help prevent these articles from waiting longer!
  • While there are starting to be clear favourites for the Content Review Medal of Merit, the field is still very open. A late entrant can still pull an upset to get the most reviews in the drive!

And remember: if you've done reviews, you should log them at the backlog drive page for points, so they can be tracked towards your awards at the end.

Thanks for signing up for the drive, and I hope to see you reviewing! Vaticidalprophet 02:01, 15 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

DYK for One Million Monkeys Typing

edit

On 7 September 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article One Million Monkeys Typing, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that a researcher called the community on the short-lived collaborative writing website One Million Monkeys Typing "astonishingly harmonious"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/One Million Monkeys Typing. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, One Million Monkeys Typing), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

DOI

edit

Hello sir. Thanks for your valuable inputs at the talk pages at DOI. You are obviously a master at this, and as rightly pointed out by you, the Clin Lab DOI is now working indeed. Did you make it work in some way? Because it is difficult to believe it was a co-incidence. Myself being a newbie [and you obviously being a master], I would request another humble unrelated question too. I see, your talk appears to me in two different names Bobamnertiopsis and Collin. Is there any significance to this? I found that after your reply at DOI talk page, your name is appearing as Collin with "t" and "c" as superscripts. Initially I was intrigued, but later I realized they signify "talk" and "contributions" respectively. If you can explain this to me, I shall be obliged. As you can understand, I am still struggling to understand the "fabric" of WIkipedia. I have tried reading the Wikipedia help pages. But there is so much material there, that a pointed question like this is difficult to find. It perhaps can best be explained by an expert user. Hence the question. Thanks very much.Neotaruntius (talk) 03:30, 30 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi Neotaruntius! I do work for Crossref, one of the DOI registration agencies, which is why I know a lot about DOIs. It's also why I'm hesitant to personally edit the DOI page as I want to avoid any conflicts of interest there. To your questions:
  • The Clin Lab DOI: I didn't directly make it work. What I did do was use the standard DOI error report form that anyone has access to to send the publisher of Clin Lab a reminder that the DOI wasn't working. If you ever click on a DOI and it resolves to the error page on the DOI.org site, you can scroll down and report the unregistered DOI, the URL where you found it, and your email address. Then, if/when the DOI is properly registered, you'll get an email confirming as much. For example: https://doi.org/10.5555/abc1234 is an unregistered DOI. If you click on the link it will take you to the page where you can report the error.
  • My name: My real name is Collin but I joined Wikipedia with the username Bobamnertiopsis many years ago. The t c in my signature are indeed for the talkpage (this page) and contributions so people can easily access my talkpage or contributions. If you wish to edit your own signature you can do so at Special:Preferences. Just scroll down the page and make whatever changes you like (but please do read the signature guidelines first!
Let me know if you have any other questions! —Collint c 03:00, 31 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the detailed answer. You know so much! It will take me some time to absorb this information completely. I will certainly come back to you, and I might do it quite often, because you reply so expertly, and that too, tailored to a particular need. That ability is what impresses most. Thanks again sir.
