Potential sockpuppet of Levineps

edit

Recently, User:Oriole85 (contribs) has been sporadically popping up on my watchlist for category-related changes. A lot of new users do that, so it wasn't a particularly noteworthy thing for me. But then he kept showing up with a higher frequency, oftentimes making (what I thought to be) completely unnecessary over-categorizations to articles. I've been on Wikipedia long enough to know that User:Levineps (contribs) is one of the most notorious over-categorizers we've ever seen (and has the community sanctions, block records, and bans to show for it). So, I did about two minutes' worth of research and discovered that Oriole85's account was created / his edits began on November 5, 2013. When was the last edit by Levineps? November 4, 2013. That is not a coincidence IMO. I don't have (a) the time right now, nor (b) the motivation to formally open an SPI, but I'm hoping that one of the many people I'm notifying about this does. If you're wondering why you're being pinged about this, it's because I saw where you were one of the people who has left messages on Levineps' talk page at some point regarding his inappropriate editing. So now, in addition to all of the aforementioned issues with Levineps, it looks like a probably sockpuppet to throw into the mix. Jrcla2 (talk) 05:26, 5 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

I did not leave a message on his talk page; I swear it was not me. What makes you think this? Ashbeckjonathan (talk) 14:00, 5 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
I looked at his user talk page edit history and notified anyone who's posted on it before. If you have no interest or involvement in this SPI issue, please disregard my original message. Jrcla2 (talk) 14:02, 5 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

politicans of obvious notability but no sourcing

For people like Timothy P Sheehan there will always be sources unless they are a hoax altogether, and it is better to simply look in Google rather than list for deletion. DGG ( talk ) 04:07, 22 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Well, I guess I'll just stop PROD until I look in google. I'll just worry about adding sources, categories, and things like that instead. I'll probably just worry about what I need to do. Hi there! Just apologise for not clarifying why I changed all instances of 'Norrie May-Welby' to 'Norrie mAy-Welby' on hir wikipedia page. https://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Norrie_May-Welby

To clarify, I did so because ze explains in an interview (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qy7QrZuJ1Jw) that ze spells hir name "Norrie mAy-Welby" (and describes it as "A redistribution of capital").

I've posted a thread in the "Talk" section of hir page, please let me know how best to proceed. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yellowbird21 (talkcontribs) 17:55, 19 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

No, of course I wouldn't not! I love to be interested in adminship. I had thoughts about it but I wasn't ready. Ashbeckjonathan (talk) 13:40, 23 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
OK, thanks for the info! Just wondering, since I'm on a tablet right now and don't want to check contribs, do you do any anti-vandal work? Lixxx235 (talk) 14:23, 23 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
Once in a while, doesn't happen often though. I've reverted vandalism in the past before. For example, I've reverted an edit by an IP editor for vandalizing Curt Menefee claiming that Menefee would be calling every Lakers and Clippers home games for TNT. I've reverted that edit and I reported to administrator. Other than that I mostly welcome users. I still have an interest of becoming an administrator and that would be nice if I became one. Ashbeckjonathan (talk) 15:37, 23 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
Would you be very interested in getting anti vandal tools, such as Twinkle, STiki, or rollback? Lixxx235 (talk) 16:04, 23 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
Twinkle has a rollback, just like pop ups do. OccultZone (Talk) 16:06, 23 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
I have twinkle but thanks though. Ashbeckjonathan (talk) 17:31, 23 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
Given to be a lurker of the RfA page, I wouldn't nominate this user for an RfA as they would probably fail it due to the 'high standards' that editors have. They'd probably be given a WP:NOTNOW reasoning to it. Maybe at 15-20k edits? (Although it's not supposed to make a difference, edit count does help.) Tutelary (talk) 03:55, 24 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

I personally believe the community's general standard for granting adminship is too high. Admins are retiring faster than editors become admins, and the total amount of work to all admins as a whole is going up. Currently admins are stressed to the max and there is a giant admin backlog everywhere. The solution the community has been going with so far is unbundling the tools and giving them out, like rollback. This kind of works, but the rest of the tools are too potent to give away without community discussion. Currently, admin+ exclusive tools are:

  1. Block and unblock
  2. Protect
  3. Edit protected
  4. Grant rollback, reviewer, autopatroled, IPBE, edit filter manager
  5. Have I missed anything? I don't think so

Anyways, these tools are obviously very potent and should not be handed out without community discussion. One thing that could work is kind of like "Request for protected editor", which would be subject to the same type of scrutiny RfAs get, just less of it. Another suggestion would be to have a usergroup like "block voter" or the like that needs 2 endorsements of other block voters for a block to go into effect, for example. Or simply integrate that into an existing group. Just my two pennies. --Lixxx235 (talk) 15:13, 25 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Your comments would carry a lot more weight if you were to actually explain why you feel the article in question is not notable by citing relevant notability guidelines. Happy editing. Proposed deletion of Paul Kennedy (broadcaster)

edit

The article Paul Kennedy (broadcaster) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Questionably notable sports broadcaster for WP:CREATIVE as I certainly found the expected mentions at News and browsers but nothing else to suggest better improvement to this current article, especially since it started unsourced in October 2012.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Article Creation Questions

Hi!

Thanks for your welcome note!

A few quick questions: Is there a way to find specific editor on page? Do I reach out to them when submitting an article or simply follow the guidelines provided by Wikipedia on the "Article development" page? I put in a request for adoption- how will I know when I've been adopted?

Question on Submitting an Article for Review

edit

To submit an article, do I: a) write to an editor and request he/she edit the page and then submit it? OR b) submit an article for review to Wikipedia and then wait to hear from an editor?

In the event my article is denied, what is the best way to reach an editor who can help me edit the article so it meets Wikipedia's criteria and can be resubmitted?

No it doesn't help the problem is in the information about Peyton Manning's first start at TN (which happened in CA) not a later game. I think I see where the problem may be when I said "Rose Bowl" I meant the place not the game, it was played in CA first game of season. Sorry but I was at the game with my son and it is an important story and memory for me and to be disputed by people reading wiki is upsetting.

  • Oh, the first start at Tennessee. Peyton's first start was against Washington State after being named starter for the remainder of the 1998 season.

Dilute Russells viper venom test

edit

Hi There, I would like to contribute a section to the dilute Russels viper venom test page but am not confident to do that directly. Can I add it to this page? In particular how acceptable is it to change references from those already there to those which may be more appropriate? Sorry but I forgot to autograph that last bit.Texner43 (talk) 12:53, 5 October 2019 (UTC) HISTORY Russells viper venom (RVV) was known to speed up the clotting of blood many years ago (1). It was widely used as a styptic to clot minor wounds when razor blades were more commonly used for shaving (eg. “Stypven”, Burroughs-Wellcome Pharma).Reply

RVV came to be useful in laboratory tests for blood clotting factors V, X, prothrombin and phospholipid (2). It was first used in clotting tests for lupus anticoagulant (LA) in an individual case in 1975 (3). The “dilute Russells Viper Venom time (dRVVT)” test was used in 1985 to diagnose LA in a large number of patients (4) and it became more widely used for this purpose.

This method involved adding individual solutions of dilute phospholipid, RVV and calcium chloride to a test plasma and then measuring how long it took for the mixture to clot (3, 4). These test components were not compatible but a stable “combined” dRVVT reagent was developed at Westmead Hospital, Sydney. It was commercialized as “LA Screen” by Gradipore Ltd, Sydney (later Life Diagnostics) and distributed widely by American Diagnostica (New York) as “dVVTest”. Its first use on LA patients was reported in 1990 (5).

The reagent was improved in 1992 by making it resistant to the widely-used anticoagulant heparin. A LA resistant version with increased phospholipid was released at that time. It was commercialized as “LA-Confirm” by Gradipore and “dVVConfirm” by American Diagnostica. Results with this reagent were not prolonged by most LA but remained similarly affected as in the “screen” test by all other variables in test plasmas (Gradipore product information). The combination of screening and confirmatory dRVVT reagents made identification of LA more simple (6,7). Manufacture of these reagents has passed on to the major diagnostic companies.

MECHANISM: RVV contains enzymes which activate clotting factors V and X (8) in human plasma. This leads to phospholipid-dependent conversion of prothrombin to the enzyme thrombin which then clots fibrinogen. Interference with phospholipid by LA causes a prolongation of the dRVVT and this is the basis of the LA sensitive test. This effect of LA can be reduced with higher levels of phospholipid or salts (3) as in the “confirm” LA resistant reagents.

LA are believed to be auto-antibodies directed against binding sites on beta 2 glycoprotein I or prothrombin which only become exposed on their binding to phospholipid (9). They are a diagnostic feature of antiphospholipid syndrome (10). REFERENCES 1.Macfarlane RG. Russells viper venom, 1934-64. British Journal of Haematology. 1967; 13: 437-51. PMID 6067638.

Hello ! And apologies if this is not the right forum. I have tried to get an answer to a simple-minded question (sorry) online but am overwhelmed by conflicting and variegated suggestions. I want to do an expansion and edit of an existing page that will take longer than one session to complete. What is the simplest way in Visual Editor to save my edit so I can return to it later.

Many thanks for any help. Taraxacum44 (talk) 10:45, 15 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Ron Thulin

edit

The article Ron Thulin has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No secondary sources for 12 years, no indication of meeting WP:BASIC.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
