ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message
editHello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}
to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:16, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
Priority ordering of potential candidates in an administrator election
editI've made a suggestion at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/October 2024/RFC workshop § Maximum # of candidates in each election to modify your proposed option. Your feedback would be appreciated! isaacl (talk) 19:38, 24 November 2024 (UTC)
- I replied on the workshop page, but I feel that it's important that some concession be given to those who tried but were not allowed to run. --Ahecht (TALK

Feature request for pageswap gui
editHey, Is there any chance you can fix the page so that the "Other/additional reason:" box shows my recently used texts like I get from the browser when I use the normal Special:MovePage where it will show my recent used texts as a dropdown? That would be useful so I don't have to manually type for common reason (typically when I complete an RM that requires page swapping)? Raladic (talk) 18:02, 1 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Raladic I could never get autocomplete to work anywhere on Wikipedia reliably, but I made a few tweaks to the sandbox version of the script that might help. Give it a try and let me know if you have any luck. --Ahecht (TALK
PAGE) 18:41, 1 December 2024 (UTC)- Thanks for trying, looks like no dice for me either.
- Actually comparing the elements of the MovePage to the swap, I notice that the movepage gives the textbox a name attribute which seems to be missing from the swap page.
<input type="text" tabindex="0" name="wpReason" value="" id="ooui-php-2" class="oo-ui-inputWidget-input">
- versus:
<input type="text" tabindex="0" class="oo-ui-inputWidget-input" value="" id="ooui-12">
- The id is also different, so could be that as well arguably, or the missing class on the input.
- I just tried to manually add the name="wpReason" attribute using F12 and the autocomplete came up, so that seems to be it.
- Could you try adding the name element and I can try again? Raladic (talk) 20:02, 1 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Raladic I updated the sandbox version to name that field "wpReason". Let me know if that works. --Ahecht (TALK
PAGE) 20:35, 1 December 2024 (UTC)- Yup that seems to have done the trick and works now to bring up the autocomplete for me. Thanks.
- Are you planning to update the main script soon for this (aka, should I switch back to the main version, or can I safely use the sandbox version in the meantime for real moves?) Raladic (talk) 21:06, 1 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Raladic I'll update the main script in a few days, once I'm sure that these changes didn't break anything else. --Ahecht (TALK
PAGE) 22:04, 1 December 2024 (UTC)- Sounds good, thanks :) Raladic (talk) 05:27, 2 December 2024 (UTC)

Cut it out
editAhecht, I see that you posted a "final warning" threatening to ban my IP address from editing for supposedly blanking content without explanation. I have no idea what you are talking about, and you did not even have the decency to offer specifics as to what I supposedly did wrong, so I have removed your "final warning." I don't believe I have ever interacted with you before, and it seems really over the top for you to post something like that with no prior history and no explanation. Not constructive and not appreciated. 172.100.117.24 (talk) 10:36, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
- I'm on mobile right now so it's hard to gather all the diffs, but you've been repeatedly triggering edit filters for removing cited information in edits such as this one. --Ahecht (TALK

Belated congratulations at becoming an admin!
editI apparently missed the memo that you've become an administrator. I wanted to stop by to congratulate you in joining the corps! I haven't forgotten you and would've voted had I not missed the memo. You'll do good work in the corps, especially if you have continued to treat new editors as well as you did me a month after I joined the site with Austin Powers: Oh, Behave!. You're one of the first editors I ever interacted with and left a very positive impression and didn't scare me off. Thanks once again for being my tenth RfA support back in 2018 and for the kind words. TheSandDoctor Talk 06:23, 3 December 2024 (UTC)

Pageswap rights check bug
editHey Ahecht. In your pageswap script, the code checking for suppressredirect
and move-subpages
permission seems not to be working. See this move. I've also verified it by trying it on my non-pagemover alt: step 1 went through and step 2 (of course) failed. Nor did the "Validate page swap" button warn that I didn't have those rights. SilverLocust 💬 06:27, 7 December 2024 (UTC)
- @SilverLocust Fixed. Thanks for the heads up. Looks like I broke that code when I split the script into pageswap.js and pageswap-core.js, so the script was popping up a red notification that there were insufficient rights but didn't actually stop the script from loading. The new version won't load if rights are insufficient. --Ahecht (TALK

MassMove script feature request
editI believe you should add the ability to replace a regular expression in the source titles with something else. That would make it easier to use this script to handle RMs like this. P.S. You might want to change "Prefix to add to the new name (e.g., User:Plastikspork/):" to "Prefix to add to the new name (e.g., User:Ahecht/):"P.P.S. This is unrelated to this AN thread—I had drafted this message before the incident, although it certainly made me want this change more. JJPMaster (she/they) 05:15, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
- @JJPMaster I'll look into the regex feature, but for something like moving a Wikiproject, the Massmove script works just fine (just set the old Wikiproject name as the old prefix and the new one as the new prefix). I used it recently to move the 177 or so subpages of WP:WikiProject Open proxies. It's admittedly easier to use for that if you're an admin since page movers are limited to 16 moves per minute, but even a very large WikiProject shouldn't take more than an hour. As for the example, I intentionally kept that as a nod to Plastikspork, who wrote the vast majority of the code -- I just added suffixes and the live preview --Ahecht (TALK
PAGE) 20:37, 15 December 2024 (UTC)- To be clear, the goal was explicitly not to move the WikiProject, hence the AN thread. The regex feature would have allowed me to replace "tornado outbreak" with just "outbreak" in all of the titles. The script I used instead moved the WikiProject by mistake. JJPMaster (she/they) 20:47, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
- @JJPMaster: In that case, you'd set the old prefix to "List of tornadoes in the tornado" and the new one to "List of tornadoes in the". --Ahecht (TALK
PAGE) 20:52, 15 December 2024 (UTC)- Oh, I didn’t realize that that would have worked. Thank you! JJPMaster (she/they) 20:53, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
- @JJPMaster You managed to nerd-snipe me on the find and replace thing, so I've modified the sandbox version to have a find and replace feature with a regex option. --Ahecht (TALK
