Will you please delete the unsourced, unreferenced article Operation Badr (Iran-Iraq War)? I would really appreciate you to remove this worthless, pov-shit. Angela from the Blue (talk) 15:43, 21 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Although I can delete material, I can't just delete whatever I like. Take the article to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion or try to fix the article. Thanks. Acalamari 17:05, 21 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Move help

edit

Hi, could you help with moving? This article PFC Metalurg Zaporozhye needs to be moved to FC Metalurh Zaporizhya. I put up a "requested move" proposal, and the consensus is for the move (see talk page). Would do it myself, but need an administrator's muscles. Thanks a bunch in advance.--Riurik(discuss) 08:32, 22 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Comments moved on my RFA page

edit

User:SlimVirgin has removed many comments from my RFA page. I think I object to this for many reasons. Can something be done to put them back where they were? Thanks. Gwen Gale (talk) 19:40, 22 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

SlimVirgin moved them to the talk page because they took up a lot of room, and made the RfA harder to read and participate in. If you want, I recommend talking to SlimVirgin about it, but as you're the candidate, I suggest that you leave it as it is. Acalamari 19:47, 22 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I have the mop but can you search the RFA meeting shown to find the bucket?
Thanks for your support, my request for adminship passed 60/0/0 yesterday!

I want to thank Mrs.EasterBunny and Royalbroil for nominating me, those who updated the RfA tally, and everyone for their support and many kind words. To paraphrase a president ... I wish my mum and dad could see the comments made. My dad would be so proud to see the comments ... and my mum would have believed them". I will do my best to use the new tools carefully and responsibly (and you may be surprised to find that I have not deleted all of the pages by accident..... yet).

Oh... is it really standard practise to delete contributions (even if it's actually useful and not vandalism or anything?) by banned users? It just doesn't make sense, but anyway, if it can't stay there can you retrieve it for me so I could place it in my userspace? -- Mentifisto 22:40, 22 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Forever or should I just copy the code and create a new page for it? -- Mentifisto 22:45, 22 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Use the "move" feature at the top of the page to move the page to a new title. That way, you can keep the page history if you like. If not, just copy the text out. Acalamari 22:46, 22 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

How do I block editors? I wanna kick some vandal ass. Asta Lavista, Baby! 17:31, 23 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

How do I become one? Asta Lavista, Baby! 17:35, 23 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
You go to Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/nominate and follow the instructions there, but I kindly suggest that you do not run for adminship: you have less than 50 edits, and saying above that you want to "kick some vandal ass" and this will lead to your request not passing. Acalamari 17:42, 23 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
So I'm never gonna be an admin even when I know everything about Wikipedia. Why is it wrong for editors in good faith to not just return? Asta Lavista, Baby! 17:44, 23 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'm not saying you'll never be an admin: just not at this time. You need more experience first. For example: edit articles that interest you, help with removing vandalism and reporting vandals, participate in deletion discussions, and also, familiarize yourself with the policies and guidelines. RfA thank-spam

edit

Acalamari/Archive S, I wish to tender my sincere thanks for your support in my successful request for adminship, which ended with 37 supports, 2 opposes, and 2 neutral. The results of the RfA are extremely bittersweet because of the recent departure of my nominator, Rudget. Hopefully I can live up to his and your expectations. I would especially like to thank Epbr123 and TomStar81 for mentioning that they were preparing to offer me a nomination. The past week has been one of the most stressful weeks in my life, and I appreciate your vote of confidence in me. Thanks a lot (both of you really). But please tell me, how did you dig this up? I hardly remembered it myself. User:Dorftrottel 21:53, January 24, 2008
Well, someone on MONGO's RfA mentioned about explanation-free supports, and I wanted to give an explanation to supports without a reason, and I remembered somewhere that you had said that supports (including ones with an explanation) endorse the nomination statement, while opposes contradict the nomination, hence the need for an explanation. I couldn't remember what place you had originally posted it, but I did know you linked to it on Wikihermit's second RfA. Acalamari 21:59, 24 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Protection of Jane Austin

edit

Hi. I noticed the request for protection of Jane Austin, looked through the history, and determined that a short protection was probably justified (there has been a fair bit of vandalism over the past few days, and the requester did cite that it may be due to a recent TV item), so I protected it for three days. When returning to RFPP to state this, however, I found you'd declined the request as not enough activity. Could you explain why, and can we come to some agreement? Cheers, TalkIslander 17:47, 25 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

The last five instances of vandalism were all done by the same person, which would have been more grounds for a block of that user rather than a page protection. Before that vandalism had occured, there had only been two other instances of vandalism in the last few days, both of which took place on different days, and were reverted quickly. Also, protecting a page to due to a TV program when little vandalism has occured is pre-emptive. As such, protection was unnecessary in this case, but since you've already protected it, I won't undo your decision. I hope this explains everything. Acalamari 17:55, 25 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
OK, fair points. I missed the fact that the last few vandals were the same - not quite sure how. I'd be willing for it to be unprotected, as I made a mistake in judgement, but do you think that's wise? TalkIslander 17:58, 25 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Ah...leave it: it's only for three days. If it was a longer protection, say a week or more, I'd suggest unprotecting it, but it's a very short protection, so it'll be fine in this case. Don't worry about it. Acalamari 18:02, 25 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Regarding rollback

edit

Hi, Acalamari, and thank you for your offer! I do indeed understand that rollback is only for vandalism, not for content disputes. I was holding off requesting rollback primarily because of my current involvement at the Franco-Mongol alliance: I didn't want the cloud of anything even remotely resembling an edit war to overshadow my request. The dispute there is not the type of situation rollback was created for. That said, if you are still comfortable granting me rollback, I would be more than happy to accept it. Please let me know, and I will post a request on the appropriate page. Thanks again, Kafka Liz (talk) 14:39, 26 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

my RfA

edit
Thanks for participating in my RfA!
Although it failed 43/27/0, I'm happy because the outcome has been very helpful in many meaningful ways. Your support and remarks contributed so much to this. If you followed my RfA you know what happened. Most of the editors who posted opposing opinions have never edited with me. Some articles I edit deal with controversial topics and with respect to a very few of these, editors who didn't know much about me had some worries about confrontational editing and civility. Since I support their high standards I can easily (and will gladly) address this. The support and ecouragement to run again soon has been outstanding, thanks again. Cheers! Ha, ha, you're welcome! I looked at history (as my summary said, masses of vandalism) and the protection log and decided that indefinite semi-protection would be better suited there than temporary. Autoblock

edit

Aeon1006 (talk · contribs) has reported [1] that he was the victim of collateral damage from an autoblock triggered by my block of Howgoesit (talk · contribs), who was bothering you as well; the IP apparently serves much of the US Navy Southwest Region. However, Aeon1006 notified me of this on my talk page, which shouldn't have been possible if he was autoblocked; he would only be able to edit his talk page. Is there something I'm missing here? Acroterion (talk) 13:15, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

You're right: if he was autoblocked, he wouldn't have been able to contact you on your talk page. The only thing I can think of is that someone lifted his autoblock before he posted it, which is what I think happened: see User talk:Aeon1006#Hello!. Acalamari 17:06, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Rollback

Hello Imjustmatthew, I have granted rollback rights to your account. The reason for this is that, after a review of some of your contributions, I can trust you to use rollback correctly by using it for its intended use of reverting vandalism: I do not believe you will abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Good luck. Just wondering

edit

What exactly can we do about persistant copyright violators who keep replacing a well sourced wikipedia article with copyrighted material from another site. On the Mike Bickle article, this IP address has continued adding copyrighted material from this site despite numerous warnings. I haven't really dealt with copyright violators more than once before so I'm hoping that you might know a little more about these sort of situations. Cheers :) AngelOfSadness talk 19:56, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

User blocked. If they continue after the block, they can be blocked again. If they use other IPs or accounts to insert the material, they can be blocked, and if necessary, the page protected. Acalamari 20:06, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Cheers. I was scanning through all of the wikipedia pages on copyright violations but what to do with copyright violations isn't really explained further beyond what is said on the Template:uw-copyright. Anyway, I'll keep the page on my watchlist in case they return earlier than expected. AngelOfSadness talk 20:14, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
The users should be blocked if they persist in adding copyright violations despite being warned not to, which is what I did here. The copyvio should then be removed. Acalamari 20:18, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
The copyvio was added three times and then removed three times (twice by me) and then the user was blocked. Great, so now I know what to do with future copyright violations. AngelOfSadness talk 20:29, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
That's what should be done if someone keeps adding copyvios. Copyvios are not to be treated lightly, and should be removed when identified. Like when reverting vandalism, you do not have to worry about breaking 3RR when removing copyvios. Acalamari 20:33, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
That's good to know. So, just say someone puts in a copyvio, it's then reverted and the copyvio is put in again by the same user, the best thing to do then is to revert again and alert an admin, warning or no warning. AngelOfSadness talk 20:49, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
A warning should be given before any alerts are made, just in case the person doesn't realize that what they're doing is wrong, but if they continue past the warnings, report them to AIV (preferably if they've inserted copyvios beyond their final warning) or, in your case, alert an admin. The vandalism warnings are fine after using the copyvio warning template. Acalamari 21:22, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
I was wondering if using the vandalism templates was ok after the copyvio template, but I guess after the first warning and second offence it would be classed as vandalism, just another kind of vandalism that I'm not used to but that's about to change. AngelOfSadness talk 21:34, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yes, after a copyvio warning, the vandalism templates are fine (though levels 2 and above should be used after the copyvio warning). There aren't any levels of copyvio templates (at least none that I know of), so the vandalism templates should be used. Hope this helps. :) Acalamari 21:37, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
It helps a lot. Thank you so much :) AngelOfSadness talk 21:45, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

RfA thanks

edit

I am not one for sending round pretty pictures, but after my recent RfA, which passed 68/1/7, I am now relaxed and this is to thank you for your support. I will take on board all the comments made and look forward to wielding the mop with alacrity. Or two lacrities. --Rodhullandemu (Talk) 21:38, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Haha... a little weird, yeah. I hadn't even noticed the error until you changed it yourself, probably cos I can't remember why I registered this account in 2006 in the first place. Hope it didn't bother you at all - Zeibura ( talk ) 22:32, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Oh, it was no bother. :) I just found it funny, that's all. Acalamari 22:34, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I truly appreciate you going to bat for me on my recent Rfa attempt. Thank you!MONGO 00:39, 1 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much for the Barnstar! I appreciate it! With your RfA, I mainly responded to the more unfair opposition, and opposition that had reasons which I believe were uncalled for. Thanks! Acalamari 00:48, 1 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

My RfA was successful, and closed with 44 Supports, 6 Opposes, and 1 Neutral. For your support, you have my thanks - I fully intend to live up to the lofty yet not-a-big-deal responsibility you have granted me. For those who opposed my candidacy, I value your input and advice, and hope that I may prove worthy of your trust. Special thanks to both Rudget and bibliomaniac15 for their expert coaching and guidance. I look forward to serving the project, my fellow editors, the pursuit of higher knowledge, et cetera, et cetera. Again, you have my thanks. I just wanted to say thanks for your support for my RfA, which closed (74/2/0) this morning. Your comment and support was very much appreciated... and the thought-provoking question!! Happymelon 15:52, 1 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thx for the rollback tool

Appreciate your confidence. Best wishes --Catgut (talk) 22:06, 1 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

You're welcome, just remember it's for vandalism-reversion only. For more information on rollback, you may want to see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature if you haven't already. Good luck. Acalamari 22:08, 1 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Very impressed by your answering both here and on my discussion page! Very comfy. Oh, and thank you for your advice. Anyway, I see rollback as a mere tool when fighting vandalism, and definitely not as a privilege that I would exploit wrongfully. Best wishes --Catgut (talk) 22:23, 1 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Heh, well, I normally like to respond on both pages talk pages, unless someone else's talk page says where it's best for me to respond. :) I'm glad to see that you'll be using rollback for it's intended purpose. :) Regards. Acalamari 22:26, 1 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I've seen the notice on your talk page. Totally agree with it, discussions should better be kept in one place. I'll seize the suggestion and put something similar on my discussion page, too. Best wishes --Catgut (talk) 22:42, 1 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Rollback

edit

Hi! I am interested in Vandal Fighting! However, Twinkle does not work on my computer. May I have the fast admin rollback feature please? I would be very pleased and honored. Please respond on my talk page! Swirlboy39 (talk) 01:04, 3 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm going to have to decline your request for now. After a look at your contributions, you have less than fifty edits, and have not demonstrated any knowledge (yet) of vandal-fighting, so I have no way of knowing how you'll use the tool. Practice reverting vandalism with the "undo" feature for a week or so, and then come back to me and I'll review your contributions then. Thanks! Acalamari 02:46, 3 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yes sir! Swirlboy39 (talk) 03:12, 3 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for the disappointment, but I'm glad you understand. I simply want to see some demonstration of vandal-fighting first so I know how you'll use the rollback tool. Thank you. Acalamari 03:15, 3 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thank you!
