Articles for Deletion

edit

Hello there,

Can you please delete some articles for me? On this template, there are a few inconsistencies. Every presidency page should not, in theory, link to the president himself. For example, the article Presidency of James Monroe does not exist, and consequently, does not redirect to James Monroe. However, a few presidency links on here due indeed redirect to the actual president, and these redirection pages should be deleted. The following articles are:

Thanks! =) --MosheA (talk) 03:21, 24 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

It would be against policy for me to delete them right now. As you did not create the redirects, I cannot delete them under WP:CSD#G7. If you feel they should be deleted, you'll have to list them at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion first. Thanks. Acalamari 04:44, 24 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

That wasn't vandalism, that was an edit in good faith. Encyclopedia Dramatica is one of the foremost parodies of Wikipedia on the web. I'd really appreciate it if you'd rescind my warning, it wasn't fair it all. 216.165.23.51 (talk) 05:43, 28 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Bobes66 2

edit

I noticed here you closed out one RfD for this user, now there is a 2nd nomination. Sock? FYI. --12 Noon 19:31, 28 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

To give other helpful links: User:Robdude666 opened the second RfA (their only edit), and the first RfA from yesterday is located here. ArielGold 19:52, 28 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
To 12 Noon: it's very likely to be a sockpuppet, or even a meatpuppet; a new user who suddenly knows a user who just ran for adminship yesterday is likely to be someone's sock/meatpuppet, especially if their only edit is to create an RfA. Even so, I'm not a checkuser, and can't find out for sure. To ArielGold: Thank you for the extra links. Acalamari 20:25, 28 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ralph Nader

edit
  • When you protected Ralph Nader, an action which I supported, you seem to have protected a version which contained the seemingly vandalous edits of User:Toes+umbrellas chacha, which deleted a quote, claiming that its inclusion violated NPOV. Since I'm not an admin, I can't really revert it. If you feel it appropriate, could you revert the edits? Thanks, Bart133 (t) (c) 23:52, 28 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
    • I did not choose which version I protected; that version just happened to be the one I protected. On RFPP, the request reason was for a revert war, and my protection reason was "revert warring". If I reverted to your version, I would be entering the dispute myself; not only that, but since I was the one who protected the page, reverting to my or another users' preferred version would be abuse of my ability to edit and protect pages. As such, it would be inappropriate for me to revert to any version. Acalamari 23:57, 28 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the birthday wishes. :) Anyway, I deleted Tony Spencer Hawk's user and talk pages because he was an indefinitely blocked user, and his user/talk pages had been in Category:Temporary Wikipedian userpages for some time, and pages listed in that category are deleted after a certain amount of time. Tony Spencer Hawk's user and talk pages were simply pages I came across in the category, not pages I had just decided to delete. Acalamari 21:21, 29 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Who Wrote Dead Sea Scrolls photo

edit

Regarding your blocking of a photo on this page: http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Who_Wrote_The_Dead_Sea_Scrolls%3F_%28book%29

This photo does not belong in the "reception" or "reviews" section of the article. It belongs in the "History of publication" section. It is only one of many photos of various editions of the book. I put them all in the "History of publication" section and Eric, another wikipedia editor, removed them all. Jossi keeps putting this particular photo back in the "reception" section. I strongly believe we should either put it back in the "History of publication" along with the other photos, or delete it. All of these photos are redundant.

Incidentally, Jossi has admitted to having negative opinions about Golb and to "throwing oil on the fire" in that regard on another talk page. Is it entirely appropriate for him to be involved in editing this page?Critical Reader (talk) 23:03, 29 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

I did not block any photo on the page; I just fully-protected the article to prevent editing on it, and to allow discussion on the talk page instead. I have no involvement in this matter, and with Jossi editing, he is allowed to edit any page, as is anybody; however, in this case, as the page is fully-protected, no one except administrators can edit, and administrators should avoid editing it anyway. Acalamari 23:10, 29 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Forgive my sloppy phrasing; the problem is that you blocked the article in a state that features a photograph (the second one, in the "reviews" section) for which there is no fair use justification and the intent of which is defamatory. There are now two of us who believe the photo should be removed--see Eric's statement in the discussion. I would suggest unblocking the page so that the photograph can be removed (or else using your prerogative as administrator to remove it), and then blocking it again so the matter can be discussed. Otherwise, the defamatory photo will remain there for as long as it takes to unblock the page, which can be a very long time.Critical Reader (talk) 02:41, 30 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

I protected the version that happened to be there at the time; it is abuse of the protection ability for an administrator to revert to their favored version and protecting it. I will leave the full-protection in place for now, and on the current version. Also, if I removed any images, I would be abusing my ability to edit protected pages by taking sides in a dispute. Since I fully-protected the page, I have to remain neutral. Acalamari 02:50, 30 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
I got involved in the article to the extent of removing NFCC content overuse. Once the block is over, might it be a good idea to take this article to Wikipedia:Requests for comment or Wikipedia:Editor assistance? I'll watch here for you. Mbisanz (talk) 04:05, 30 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
I have not set any expiry on the protection, so it's currently indefinite. With other forms of dispute resolution, you may take any path you wish, though it would be best to try to discuss as much as possible on the talk page and try to resolve it all there first. Acalamari 04:15, 30 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Seems as if there is a dispute over pretty much the entire page. I'll wait a month or so, hope that gets resolved, and then bring the NFCC issue back up for discussion. Mbisanz (talk) 04:28, 30 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Okay. :) Acalamari 04:31, 30 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

  Dear Acalamari,

Thank you for supporting in my recent RfA. Words nor pictures can express my heartfelt appreciation at the confidence the community has shown me. I am both heartened and humbled by this confidence. I got your response, which was helpful. Many times, I have seen vandals remove warnings from their talk page while other users restore them. You're welcome for the response: I'm glad I was able to help. :) Regarding that vandal from yesterday, yes, he did remove warnings from his talk page, but that doesn't matter: it was the trolling that got the talk page protected, not the removal of warnings. Evidently that vandal was a fan of me. :) Acalamari 00:03, 4 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom vote

edit

Hi Acalamari. I just wanted to respond to your oppose vote on my arbitration candidacy. I have voted in the arbitration elections every other year, and I see no reason not to this year - I care about who I'd be serving alongside if elected, and who would be doing the job if I'm not. As such, I've supported all but one of the candidates currently within a stones throw of being elected - and I initially supported him. I'm concerned that this seems to be perceived as some sort of campaign tactic, when I'm actually supporting all of the people I stand to potentially lose to. Rebecca (talk) 22:45, 4 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello Rebecca, and thank you for the explanation. Since you have taken the time to respond to me, I will in turn indent my oppose for now and reconsider my stance. I try to be a fair opposer, and you have given me reasons to support, both by explaining your actions, and by discussing like this: two qualities I'd like to see in an arbitrator. I have to say I should have assumed more good faith your actions, and apologize for not doing so. Acalamari 23:05, 4 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

User:Durova Revert

edit

Hi, you just reverted my comments on User:Durova's page without leaving a reason. If you want to revert something please leave a reason, otherwise it looks like vandalism. Scott Keeler (talk) 02:55, 6 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Your edit to her user page was disruptive. She does not need to be harassed over "power abuse". If you re-add the content, you'll get reverted again, and continual re-adding will result in a block. Technically, that information would belong on her talk page, and even on that page, it might get reverted. Acalamari 02:59, 6 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
This isn't about "her" and it's not about harassment. This is about the Wikipedia community and despite what you think about the community, you are not the boss. I'll add this to her talk page. If it's reverted by you, YOU WILL BE BLOCKED, not me. Scott Keeler (talk) 03:02, 6 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
Leave Durova alone, and no, I will not be blocked if I revert it, and neither will anyone else if they revert it. Durova might even revert it herself. Acalamari 03:05, 6 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
As I told you this is not about Durova, it's about the community at large. Scott Keeler (talk) 03:08, 6 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the Barnstar! Yes, I actually feel sorry for these new users who submit a request for adminship in good-faith, and then sometimes leave the site when their RfA gets hit with unnecessary pile-on strong opposes. I believe that new users who create an RfA in good-faith should be given advice and guidance rather than the impression that they've done something seriously wrong. Wikipedia:Requests for adminship is the place, and you can go to Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Nominate for instructions. However, if you ran, I don't believe you would pass at this stage. I checked your edit count, and while you have a good amount overall, you only have about 50 to the Wikipedia-namespace (places such as deletion discussions and WP:AIV). Not only that, but I think you'll need to use edit summaries more often, as administrators (all editors really) need to clearly explain their edits in their summaries, but this is easily fixed by going into your preferences and enabling the "Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary". Ultimately though, it's your choice whether to nomination yourself or not. I hope this helps. Acalamari 01:14, 13 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

You're welcome: you'll find the new admin school very useful. :) Acalamari 02:56, 16 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
I started to look at it, but decided I wanted to run through it when I had more time to devote to it. Looks very useful though, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:21, 16 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
Don't worry, there is no hurry. :) Acalamari 03:27, 16 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

kelly clarkson

edit

when restoring removed statements from an article, read the 'referance' and see for yourself that the content added to wikipedia is false. and people wonder why wikipedia is so unreleiable and such a joke. now because of a false statement, there's rumors galore circulating through the press of Clarkson dating some Irish race car driver she's enver even met, and their crediting 'wikipedia' for it. 76.109.54.18 (talk) 22:56, 16 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Okay then, thanks for explaining your edit: I was unaware of what you were doing. Sorry for the warning. Acalamari 02:42, 17 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Block talk on WP:ANI

edit

Hi again. I never found out whether I messed up on that recent block, other than the user was de-blocked. The talk seems to have been archived so well that I can't find it, or was courtesy blanked. Did I mess up? Bearian (talk) 15:27, 17 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello Bearian, the archived discussion can be found here. From the discussion, all that seems to have happened is that PHG was unblocked, and everyone moved on from the issue. Acalamari 17:16, 17 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Don't worry

Hello, Acalamari. I noticed you seemed a little sad today. Here's a smile to cheer you up :)

At the risk of sounding like a horoscope, that certain someone you're missing may be closer than they seem ;) Hope you understand. See you around! Redrocketboy 00:06, 18 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ah yes, thank you, Redrocketboy. I believe I understand completely. :) Best wishes. Acalamari 00:18, 18 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Heya, I've replied on my talk page, but I thought I'd drop this by. Seeing as you seem to appreciate humorous things on the wiki. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 23:56, 18 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Responded there. :) Acalamari 00:08, 19 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
