The Brain of Morbius lives in Brisbane, Queensland in Australia.

Interests and hobbies

edit

The Brain's interests include Australian rules football, with a particular passion for the Brisbane Lions in the Australian Football League. Prior to the foundation of the Brisbane Bears he supported Collingwood.

He is heavily involved in the administration and maintenance of his unofficial Brisbane Lions website, Lionised.

He enjoys many different varieties of music, including rock, pop, alternative and classical. His favourite performers include Radiohead, R.E.M., Billy Bragg, Regurgitator, and Björk, amongst many others.

He is also an enthusiast of the BBC television series Doctor Who, having watched it since childhood. His favourite Doctor is (predictably!) Tom Baker, although he’s looking forward to the new series soon to be shown on Australian television. He has a vast collection of Doctor Who memorabilia, consisting of hundreds of books, magazines, videos, DVDs, CDs and toys, some of which are quite rare.

Other television programmes enjoyed by Alex include The Sopranos, Wire in the Blood, Cracker, Kath & Kim, Frontline, The Goodies, and Blakes 7. He also enjoys watching Play School, Sesame Street and Bananas in Pyjamas with his son.

His favourite movies include 2001: A Space Odyssey, Blade Runner, Dr. Strangelove, Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, Dark City, The Wizard of Oz, Planet of the Apes (original, please!), O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Raising Arizona, The Big Lebowski, Barton Fink, Malcolm, The Club, The Shawshank Redemption, the collected works of the Marx brothers and many others.

Nicknames

edit

The Brain of Morbius was a 1975 Doctor Who serial about the brain of a Time Lord kept alive in a bubbling tank. This serial was originally banned by Australian television censors due to horror content, but was eventually shown in prime time cut down to a one-hour special. This writer was unable to see this special showing due to a conflict with a medical procedure, causing him great disappointment - and so this particular serial has always held some fascination for him. When posting on internet fora, he enjoys signing off with a particularly maniacal line from the titular brain: "Your puny mind is powerless against the strength of Morbius!"
