Guidelines
editGuidelines for writing a mock article are as follows:
- Anyone can create or edit a mock article. Same rules apply as when a regular article is written.
- The discussion pages of the mock articles can be used in the same manner as real discussion pages.
- Mock articles should be about subjects that, if they were real, would have borderline notability or for which inclusion guidelines are otherwise unclear.
- Mock articles are to be about fictional subjects that in reality do not exist. In order to ascertain that a real subject with such a name does not exist, it is recommended to do a Google search of the name, and if there are any Ghits, not to use that name.
- Mock articles written about people should be given a name that sounds like a human name, but that it is unlikely a real person anywhere in the world would have, or that has been given to any fictional character in any published work.
- Place names in mock articles should not be real places, and should not share the names with real places or those used in any known works of fiction.
- Mock articles about companies and organizations should not match or even closely resemble known real ones.
- When using dates, it is recommended to use dates that are way in the future, but describe them as if they were in the past.
- Footnotes using the <ref></ref> formatting can be used as mock references.
- Unlinked text serving as a references can be inserted between the tags (for example, citing a non-existent book)
- Links to the URLs of other Wikipedia pages can be inserted in this place. It is permissible to create a mock news or magazine article in user space to use for this purpose, provided that there are no conflict-of-interest violations.
- No links to external sites should be used.
- Mock articles are to be written at a neutral point-of-view, and are not to be used for:
- Spam, self-promotion, or promotion of any subjects to the editor's own interest
- Promotion of one's own personal beliefs or views
- Personal attacks
- Passing off a hoax as truth
- Test-editing and format experimentation as one would in sandbox
- Vandalism of mock articles is not permitted.
