Moonlight2001 seeks to provide light in the darkness of ignorance.

Focus

edit

Moonlight2001's main area of focus is WP: WikiProject Islam, where his goal is to provide an objective and descriptive balance in Islam-related articles—which he finds are often a murky battlefield between Islamophobes* and Muslim apologists, who sometimes apparently do not care to present the facts and a clear, objective, and academic manner. The latter is Moonlight2001's goal, feeling that by writing per WP:NPOV, the truth will become clear on its own.

Usage of term "Islamophobia"

This editor acknowledges the sometimes problematic overapplication of the term Islamophobia: his preferred definition of the term is that of critical race theorist Khaled Beydoun, who defines Islamophobia as “the presumption that Islam is violent, inassimilable, and prone to terrorism,” and who further divides it into private Islamophobia and structural Islamophobia. When applied to Muslims, it manifests bigotry; when applied more generally (and in particular at Wikipedia), it is distorting of factual objectivity, and often conflicts with WP:NPOV and with reality.

Editorial Preferences

edit

His work on Wikipedia presents facts, not opinions, and he strives to closely adhere to the standards of WP:COI.

Personal Beliefs

edit

Moonlight2001 is a believer in objective truth and that the existence of God is rationally necessary given the existence of the Universe (or even the possibility that it could exist, really).

Name

edit

"Moonlight" expresses Moonlight2001's desire to shed light on the facts—in the darkness of ignorance, the light, however far, has vast powers of illumination. "2001" refers to the first year of the millennium—contrary to popular perception, the first year is 1 CE, not 0; usage of this number indicates the need for twenty-first century academic writing, while acknowledging that the truth can sometimes be hidden.

Name in "the real world'

His actual name in English is a secret, but in a code he invented in 2012 is Bybwebh F. Arhalbybvexdi. In another, it is Vobu G. Seceboj. The genius who guesses his name can put it on the talk page!
