Night of the Doctor
Hi, I was just wondering if there was a source which backed up this addition? Thanks, Matty.007 19:39, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
- Hello, I made a quick search but did not find sources saying it in a clear way. It is an obvious fact as it is the episode the eight doctor regenerates into the war doctor, but it's true that a source would help. Personally I haven't found --Hyliad (d), November 17 2013, 20:53 (CEST)
- Yes, I suspect it doesn't need a source being part of the plot, just trying to get that and War Doctor through DYK in time for Saturday, so trying to get no issues (linked here). Thanks, Matty.007 19:56, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
Thank you!

Re:Rose
I have added the most important info from the Confidential episode to the article but I haven't watched the commentary yet and I'm busy the next few days; the earliest I can get to it is probably next Wednesday (the 27th). It is possible to extend a GA review but in the case that doesn't work I will work on it with you and it can be renominated. I have a few more sources that may help and some other things (background, casting) can be stolen from other articles. I'm going to attempt to work on the publicity/broadcast/reception to make it more like "The Impossible Astronaut" and such (typically broadcast and reception go together). It takes practice to find information and sources but it's out there somewhere! Glimmer721 talk 03:15, 22 November 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not sure how far we want to go into publicity since finding trailers can be tedious and that may not be GA-level. There has to be a way to work in Eccleston's quit story though...I have to get offline now but tomorrow I will work on adding info about why he really left as well as transferring some other things. Glimmer721 talk 03:20, 22 November 2013 (UTC)
- On the other hand, Clive's website may work in publicity because it is tied into the episode itself... Glimmer721 talk 03:21, 22 November 2013 (UTC)
I believe I currently have everything for a GA article on the page except information to glean from the commentary. The only section I don't know what to do with is the publicity information. Cheers. Glimmer721 talk 20:00, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
- Glimmer721: as in the section in the article? We could put it as a subheading under 'Broadcast'? Thanks, Matty.007 20:02, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
- Yes I think the information about the second series commission and Eccleston leaving can go there; I'm just not sure if we need actual publicity stuff like trailers and stuff, since that kind of overlaps with the first series as a whole and is probably not necessary for GA anyway. Glimmer721 talk 20:31, 24 November 2013 (UTC)

Dan Tan Seet Eng
I had a more thorough look at your article, and I'm not quite happy with it. The most basic issue seems to be that there's extremely little information on Eng. The article even openly admits that ("Little is known about Tan Seet Eng's personal life"). The coverage of his non-private life is not much better. Thus the article veers off-topic and discusses the sources for information on Eng in about as much detail as Eng himself. It also records clearly irrelevant trivia - or would you say it's a significant part of his biography that he wasn't named after his arrest? There's also a couple of weasel words ("it has been said", "rumored to be", "some believe"). Huon (talk) 22:35, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for taking a look. In response to your points: there is not much that can be done about his private life; but there is significant coverage on the source of his notability, the fact that he is accused of being a major match fixer. I removed the paragraph about Perumal, and attempted to fix the weasel words. Is it better now Huon? Thanks, Matty.007 11:32, 1 December 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for the Christmas greetings! I have edited the draft to remove another few "it has been reported" and to bring the content into a more logical order, for example by gathering all the assessments of Eng's significance in a single paragraph. However, I'm not so sure about the "significant coverage on the match fixing accusations". For example, Eng has not actually been accused of anything in a court of law. His role within the match fixing organization is in doubt. Sources disagree with each other on whether or not he cooperated with authorities - Al Jazeera reports it, but the Daily Mail uses scare quotes for his "assistance". There are lots of allegations, but very few hard, uncontroversial facts. Huon (talk) 14:07, 1 December 2013 (UTC)
- It is generally the case that he is a big fist though, Interpol, Europol, about four different police forces... It is doubtless that his capture is important, as is his information which he is co-operating. He has received global coverage, even in Al Jazeera and most (if not all) major UK news agencies. Thanks, Matty.007 14:11, 1 December 2013 (UTC)
- And thank you for fixing the article, it is much appreciated. Matty.007 14:25, 1 December 2013 (UTC)

List of supernovae in 186
Hey Matty.007, it's me, exoplanetaryscience. I just created List of supernovae in 185, and I was wondering if you could review it? Just fyi, I'm going to make other lists for supernovae in 386, 393, 1006, etc... It would be helpful if you could keep away the critical reviews before the list comes out?
Also could you make a navigatable area for people to look up supernovae in the different years please? That would be really helpful.
Thanks! exoplanetaryscience (talk) 00:17, 14 December 2013 (UTC)

- Thanks for the Christmas greeting! Do you mean a template like this? Thanks, Matty.007 12:21, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
- One more thing, are you sure that we need a list of supernovae by year, given that we already have List of supernovae? Thanks, Matty.007 12:30, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
- Well, I realized that it was a list of important supernovae rather than just supernovae, so I figured a supernova list by year would include more and make a more navigable list to people interested in every one instead of just important ones.

- Okay, I'll try. On another topic, I'm trying to find the remnant of SN 386, which they claim to be g11.2-0.3, but when I look it up on wikisky, NED, and SDSS, they all point me to different locations, even varying by how I phrase it (SN 386, g11.2-0.3, SNR g11.2-0.3) I found, eventually [[1]], but it is vague about the details and the location of it has little more than an X-ray patch of brightness and no visible emission. Is there anything I could do to be able to get a better understanding of this odd remnant? exoplanetaryscience (talk) 15:30, 14 December 2013 (UTC)

Re: Topic ban
Usually I'm ok with lifting something after a good amount of time has passed, but in this case the issues were so severe (I should note that he still hasn't bothered to fix the hundreds of issues from back then) that I'm reluctant to allow anything from him whatsoever at DYK. I don't think nominations were discussed one way or the other, but to me I don't like the idea. I'd say to ask at DYK, but I don't knowhow many remaining people there are familiar with the backstory. - OK, I will see what he says about my nominations of his articles, then go from there. I had a read of the DYK thread and the ANI thread. Thanks, Matty.007 12:07, 19 December 2013 (UTC)

Hi Matty, just a quick heads up - the hook for Albert I. Prettyman that you moved into Prep 1 has a DAB link for Hamilton College (it's also a DAB in the article). Billy Hathorn
Hi Matty,
I put a couple of links on those two templates where you nominated Billy Hathorn articles. I just don't want you to take it personally. Seems Billy Hathorn has been banned from DYK since 2011. I didn't know it myself until this past June when it came up on the DYK talk page. I don't know how any nominator could know this unless they happened to see it on the talk page at some point. Anyway, I didn't want you to think it was anything you did, or didn't do. It's just one of those flukes that you never know about until you stumble over it. — Maile (talk) 00:46, 20 December 2013 (UTC)

Matty.007, where are the copyvios in Maureen Chiquet from? If you can identify them, I'll fix em up asap
("Shadows in the Rain" is a song from 1980 The Police album Zenyatta Mondatta. It was revisited on Sting's 1985 solo album "The Dream of the Blue Turtles" which featured a number of very famous jazz musicians including Branford Marsalis. At the start of the track, Branford asks "What key is this in? Wait, wait!" [citation needed] I would add a YouTube link, except they are all copyvios themselves.)
Pete AU aka --Shirt58 (talk) 12:39, 20 December 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks Pete.
- Born Kathryn Daughtery Maureen Chiquet in St Louis, Missouri, in 1963, she went on to be educated at the prestigious Yale University in Connecticut. Shortly after being named CEO of Chanel in 2007, she spoke to the alumni magazine about her career. She said her time at the university had been particularly fruitful: “One thing that’s unique about Yale in my memory was the access you get to great minds. There was never a hurdle. Maybe that environment creates that feeling of power to do things that are extraordinary.” Graduating with a degree in film and literature, she was unsure of what to do next in her career: she walked out of one of her LSAT law exams. Instead, she found an internship in the city she had dreamt of living in since a child, as marketing intern at L’Oreal Paris. Speaking to Time, she described that moment as “the beginning of my career and love affair with the world of beauty and fashion”.[this from the source]
- Chiquet was born as Kathryn Daughtery Maureen Chiquet in St.Louis, Missouri in 1963. She went on to study at Yale University in Connecticut, where she graduated with a degree in film and literature.[1] Unsure of what to do with her future, Chiquet reportedly walked out of one of her LSAT law examinations at one point. She went on to do a marketing internship at L’Oreal Paris, later describing the stint as "the beginning of my career and love affair with the world of beauty and fashion".[1] [this from the article]
- It looked quite similar, but I am not sure if it is far enough away to not be a copyvio. Thanks, Matty.007 16:00, 20 December 2013 (UTC)

Older, approved DYKs that could use promoting
Hi there. It seems like just now it's only you and me promoting DYKs, and there are a few languishing approved in the older parts of nomination area that I can't promote due to either reviewing or nominating them myself. Specifically, they are:
- Template:Did you know nominations/Homologous Chromosome
- Template:Did you know nominations/Bronze Head from Ife
- Template:Did you know nominations/Flow cytometry bioinformatics
Obviously I would want you to also double-check them, but they are all pretty good articles (I think) and ought ideally to be making their way into the queue. -Kieran (talk) 18:54, 20 December 2013 (UTC)
- OK, will do in the next hour. Mind if I give you a heads up on what I was planning hook wise (I will anyway, it was a rhetorical question):
- I was planning on leaving the following for picture usage: Template:Did you know nominations/J.J. Deal and Son Carriage Factory, possibly Template:Did you know nominations/Keith Henderson (artist), Template:Did you know nominations/Lord Kanaloa, potentially Template:Did you know nominations/Herbert Hoover National Historic Site, Template:Did you know nominations/Quasipaa spinosa, definitely Template:Did you know nominations/Boro taxi. Thanks, Matty.007 19:05, 20 December 2013 (UTC)
- The thing with these hooks is that they are neither biographies or American related (I don't think), so probably only one or two can go in each Prep, so we need to wait for an admin to free up preps. Thanks, Matty.007 19:15, 20 December 2013 (UTC)
- I've interpreted the guidelines on US articles and biographies more as maximums to counteract WP:BIAS than as quotas. To be specific, the guidelines state "as a general rule you should never have more than 50% of hooks on US-related topics, biographical topics, or any other topic, except when it seems unavoidable." (emphasis mine)
- Regarding the picture hooks, I was eyeing those too, although I think we will in the end have to pick some of them to run without pictures. The ones I'm most in favour of keeping are the frog and Hoover's birthplace. The rest are a bit less interesting. Also note that the Keith Henderson image has copyvio questions over it, so that hook should be run pictureless. -Kieran (talk) 21:42, 20 December 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, I try and run 3 bios and 3 US related, but less if I have to. I would quite like Template:Did you know nominations/Boro taxi and Template:Did you know nominations/Lord Kanaloa, so we'll have to see what we can do. I can't do anything else today I'm afraid though, getting late in the UK. Best, Matty.007 21:45, 20 December 2013 (UTC)

Emil Rebreanu
Can Emil Rebreanu be put back into a queue? Thanks.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 19:25, 20 December 2013 (UTC)
I really did not mean your nominations!
Hi Matty, just a note as I'm beginning to worry you think I was 'having a go' at you when discussing QPQs on WT:DYK - this was certainly not aimed at you, nor most of the other regulars at DYK as I do appreciate there are many reasons why nominations are not self noms. My concern is that recently a considerable number of these have been nominated with no QPQs (nor, as far as I can ascertain, any notification to the article creators/expanders). By trying not to appear as if I was being 'pointy' or specifying one editor I seem to have inadvertently managed to upset everyone else along the way! SagaciousPhil - Chat 19:57, 20 December 2013 (UTC)
- I wasn't offended, it just made me realise that I need to do more QPQs. Thanks, Matty.007 20:09, 20 December 2013 (UTC)

I was not planning on submitting a DYK for the Wright Opera House Block; if you'd like to do so please go ahead. (I did a number of DYKs a while back, but then decided I'd rather not spend the extra time. No problem if someone else wants to spend the extra time, though. :)) Andrew Jameson (talk) 12:24, 22 December 2013 (UTC)

DYK question
Hi, I just wanted to ask a question regarding my DYK nomination that you promoted (Template:Did you know nominations/Mick Carter, Carl White). This is going up on Christmas day from midday to midnight, right? Dyer will make his debut at 8.30pm, so the tense in the hook ("who debuts as") will be wrong after this. Is the hook allowed to be changed while it's on the main page (to "who debuted as")? –anemoneprojectors– 19:29, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
- Hmm. You would have to speak to an admin, and possibly report it at Main Page errors to get it changed. Harrias or Gatoclass (and Crisco 1492) are all admins I've seen around DYk who may be around at the time, who would be able to change the main page. Sorry, Matty.007 19:46, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
- Ah thanks. I'll go chat to an admin. I'm an admin myself, but I don't get involved in the DYK process. But I would be able to make the change if it was allowed. Thanks anyway :-) –anemoneprojectors– 19:59, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) I think it's best to leave it alone for the remaining few hours, or revise the hook now to a wording that won't need changing. Since it will still be Christmas Day in the UK even once he appears on screen, moving to the past tense makes it seem like this happened on a past Christmas Day, which isn't the case. Actually, having looked at the hook, since we don't like to use predictive wording (I keep WP:CRYSTAL in mind), I have changed "debuts" to "is set to debut" because you never know when a plan goes awry due to an unexpected preemption or the like. We've had hooks that run from before to after an event, and not worried about changing tense while it runs. BlueMoonset (talk) 21:57, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
- That sounds fine to me. Actually I thought it might be better to say "... who is set to debut today as Mick Carter in EastEnders, was..." rather than "on Christmas Day". I put "on Christmas Day" in the hook in case it didn't go up on Christmas Day. Can that be changed now it's confirmed for the day? –anemoneprojectors– 23:09, 22 December 2013 (UTC)

GOCE December 2013 Blitz wrap-up and January Drive invitation
December Notes from the Guild of Copy Editors
The December blitz ran from December 8–14. The theme for this blitz was articles tied in some way to religion. Seven editors knocked out 20 articles over the course of the week. Our next blitz will be in February, with a theme to be determined. Feel free to make theme suggestions at the Guild talk page! The January 2014 Backlog elimination drive is a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on January 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on January 31 at 23:59 (UTC). Our goals are to copy edit all articles tagged in October and November 2012 and complete all requests placed before the end of 2013. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits at least one article, and special awards will be given to the top five in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", "Number of articles of over 5,000 words", "Number of articles tagged in October and November 2012", and "Longest article". We hope to see you there! Coordinator election: Voting is open for candidates to serve as GOCE coordinators from 1 January through 30 June 2014. Voting will run until the end of December. For complete information, please have a look at the election page. – Your drive coordinators: Torchiest and Torchiest, Baffle gab1978 and Baffle gab1978, Jonesey95 and Jonesey95, and The Utahraptor and The Utahraptor To discontinue receiving GOCE newsletters, please remove your name from our mailing list. DPR
Two comments on the DPR draft: Firstly, you must be careful about keeping apart fact and allegation, and you should clarify whether the government evidence for certain facts connects DPR or Ulbricht with those facts. You have sources that explicitly say Ulbricht is alleged to be DPR; that should be part of the "arrest" section's first line. Secondly, you should double-check that you cite the right sources for each claim. For example, the source for the "masked protagonist from The Princess Bride" does not actually say so, but the Forbes article cited as your fourth source does.
