Karisalkalampatti is a village in Thirumangalam Taluk in Madurai District of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is located about 9 KM from Thirumangalam, 30 KM from Madurai and 520 KM from State capital Chennai. As of 2011, the village population about 1158.

Geography

The latitude and longitude of this village is 9°76’ N and 77°96’E respectively[2] and the mean sea level (MSL) is 121m. This village is situated on the banks of river Gundar, a distributary of river Vaigai. The average maximum and minimum temperatures are of 40°C and 27°C. This village gets major rainfall during the south west monsoon period. The average annual rainfall being received in the town is 40.95 cm.

According to 2011 census, Karisalkalampatti had population of 1158 with a sex-ratio of 966 females for every 1,000 males, which is lower than Tamil Nadu state average of 996.[3] A total of 142 were under the age of six, constituting 589 males and 569 females. Schedule Caste accounted about 39 and there were no Scheduled Tribes.The average literacy of the village was 71.06%, compared to national average of 72.99%.[3] The village had a total of 326 households. There were a total of 683 workers, comprising of 88 cultivators, 379 agricultural laborers. As per the religious census of 2011, Karisalkalampatti had 99.80% Hindus and 0.2% following other religions.

As per constitution of India and Panchyati Raaj Act, Karisalkalampatti village is administrated by Sarpanch (Head of Village) who is elected representative of village. Karisalkalampatti village falls under Tirumangalam assembly constituency is part of Virudhunagar (Lok Sabha constituency).

Surrounding cultivate lands are the main places for the agricultural activities. Crops like cotton, rice, cholam, kambu and green dal are cultivated here.

P.U.M.S which provides primary education to students. Dhaya College Of Engineering primarly located on NH-7 Madurai Highway Road, yet to be opened. Dr. M.S. Udayamurthy Teacher Training Institute(Venkatachalampuram Pullambady Thirumalapady Rd Trichy) which act as training institute to nearby villages.

The Pathirakali Mariamman Temple located there was built in 19th century, and the Devi at the Patrakali Amman temple is believed to be highly powerful. Every year, in the Tamil month of Vaikasi, a 13-day festival is celebrated, Vaikasi thiruvizha, along with daily deity procession and exhibitions. And also the Milk ice cream aka Paal Ice was prednly at the occasion of Vaigasi Festival.
