Mémoiredumaquis passed away during the night from Friday, September 27, 2024 to Saturday, September 28, 2024. Within an hour, he was taken from us by a sudden complication of the cancer that had been tormenting him for nearly two years. Aged 91, he was the son of a French Resistance fighter and Companion of Liberation. A respected military historian, he wrote a great number of papers between 1978 and 2006 on Free France and the maquisard networks. Lately, his ambition was to shed light on the outrageous activities of a Nazi prelate whose dirty deeds were covered up by the Church and its highest authority, kept hidden and intentionally omitted from the history books: François-Louis Auvity. Last month, MdM joined the French Wikipedia in order to correct what he strongly perceived as a negationist discourse aimed at rehabilitating Auvity as a virtuous, patriotic and positive historical figure, which Auvity was not. In the process, MdM also wrote the encyclopedic entry on François-Louis Auvity in English.
It was his hope that others would find it useful in their quest for the truth. May his soul rest in perfect peace in the bosom of the Almighty.
- Requiescat. Mémoiredumaquis' article on Auvity was at peer review when he died and three other editors have now respectfully tried to get it into the best possible shape. Tim riley talk 20:06, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
