Just a bit of info to start this page. No fancy layout like I just saw on Blue Rasberry's user page. That is impressive, so I have a long way to go.

My name is Bob and I live 11 miles south of Manchester in the UK. I am retired, having spent all my working life in IT.

I spend a lot of time on forums.thinkbroadband.com which is predominantly focused on helping people in the UK with a variety of broadband problems.

We get occasional pleas for help from many different countries, which can be quite amusing when the person hasn't told us they aren't in the UK, as a lot of what we say can be bunkum as a result. Lots of the principles of xDSLx are of course common, but the national implementations are highly variable.

Main interests are classical music; opera; theatre; ballet; Formula 1 (and cars in general). I also like watching cricket; tennis and snooker.
