The Man in the Red Coat is a book by Julian Barnes. It was published on 11 November 2019.[1] The book concerns Samuel Jean de Pozzi, a French surgeon and pioneer in the field of gynaecology whose portrait in a red coat John Singer Sargent painted,[2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13] and other people of Belle Époque Paris, including Robert de Montesquiou, Prince Edmond de Polignac, Jean Lorrain, Sarah Bernhardt, Joris-Karl Huysmans, and Oscar Wilde.

According to Book Marks, the book received "positive" reviews based on twenty-eight critic reviews with eight being "rave" and twenty being "positive".[14] In Books in the Media, a site that aggregates critic reviews of books, the book received a       (4.11 out of 5) from the site which was based on sixteen critic reviews.[15][16][17]
