Help needed

This "Trump–Russia relations" sidebar template needs much more development and checking for any issues that might be involved: content, NPOV, etc.

It can be associated with a new category Category:Trump–Russia relations and Trump–Russia relations mother article (which shortly summarizes all the content found in related articles). The abundance of topics and Trump's history with Russia-related businesses, intrigues, people, women , and other matters justifies this move.

The documentation part needs to be created. I have never dealt with documentation before.

Any suggestions are welcome. Pinging a varied group (subject matter experts, template creator, admins): Soibangla, Andre, Tuckerlieberman, SMcCandlish, Volunteer Marek, Space4Time3Continuum2x, MrX, Muboshgu, Doug Weller. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 18:32, 6 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, not really in my wheelhouse. Doug Weller talk 18:59, 6 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
That's okay. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 19:28, 6 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'm not quite sure what a template is, sorry. I should know, but I don't. Is it the sidebar with the list of links to related articles?
If so, are you asking for a simple review of which article links are included in / excluded from the sidebar...or do you think we need a more in-depth review of the text of each linked article?
The links you provided are red (i.e., not created yet). I don't see a template for Trump_Russia either. Are you referring to the template for "Russian interference in the 2016 United States elections"? Tuckerlieberman (talk) 19:10, 6 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
See the page itself, not just this talk page. There you'll see a section for "Trump–Russia relations sidebar". That's the one under development. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 19:27, 6 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
Looks pretty good to me so far. Andre🚐 20:32, 6 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
Do you still need help with this? I've never dealt with templates before, so all I can do is suggest copying an existing one, e.g., Template:Donald_Trump_series and its documentation template Template:Donald_Trump/doc. I can take a look at those tomorrow, see if I can figure them out. Space4Time3Continuum2x (talk) 19:12, 18 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
That's actually the template I used and then adapted based on some other templates. I hadn't thought of just using the documentation from that one but maybe I can figure out how to adapt it. Thanks. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 00:09, 19 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
Okay, now I've looked at that documentation page and don't see how I can use it. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 00:14, 19 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Right now, there is no Template: Trump-Russia relations. Wouldn't you need that first before you can create a Template: Trump-Russia relations/doc? And then replace the contents of Template: Donald Trump/doc? Like so (some lines only visible in the editor):

Extended content

== Trump-Russia related navigation templates == // ARE THERE ANY? OR THE SAME AS THE SIDEBAR CATEGORIES? //
Articles about Trump-Russia relations are organized into several themes. Because of the large number of articles involved, full navigation is split among several navboxes:

  • {{Donald Trump}} as a generic presidential biography template
  • {{Trump businesses}} focusing on Trump's business career in real estate and miscellaneous ventures
  • {{Trump family}} about family members, relations and ancestry
  • {{Trump media}} grouping Trump's media productions, media appearances and third-party works about Trump
  • {{Trump presidency}} focusing on the election campaign, transition and presidency
  • {{Trump executive actions}} lists the Trump administration's executive actions, including executive orders and presidential memoranda

Duplication of contents across each of those should be avoided.

There is also a navigation sidebar, {{Trump-Russia relations}}, which should only include a selection of the most relevant articles.

This template's initial visibility currently defaults to autocollapse, meaning that if there is another collapsible item on the page (a navbox, sidebar, or table with the collapsible attribute), it is hidden apart from its title bar; if not, it is fully visible.

To change this template's initial visibility, the |state= parameter may be used:

  • {{Trump–Russia relations|state=collapsed}} will show the template collapsed, i.e. hidden apart from its title bar.
  • {{Trump–Russia relations|state=expanded}} will show the template expanded, i.e. fully visible.

For the navigation sidebar {{Trump-Russia relations}}, the |state= parameter has no effect; however, the |expanded= parameter can have the following values to expand their respective sections on specific pages:

  • Business interactions
  • Russian election interference
  • Investigations and reports
  • People
  • Deception and conspiracy theories
  • Categories

Use of the |expanded= parameter on this template causes the Business interactions section to collapse automatically. Any other value for the |expanded= parameter will cause all sections to collapse.

I'm just guessing. If this doesn't work: the template: Donald Trump/doc was created by editor JJMC89 and expanded by JFG. Both are still active on WP. Maybe they can help? Space4Time3Continuum2x (talk) 19:49, 20 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

This isn't legible in dark mode

edit

In dark mode, the title isn't legible, as it's dark on a dark background.

(Am I doing this right? The report button said "If you know the exact template with the issue, please report it on the template talk page instead for a quicker response." so I put it here.) KTibow (talk) 01:00, 31 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

I don't know how we can accommodate the possibility of using dark mode. This is white letters on a dark blue background, which, in normal lighting, is very legible. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 02:48, 31 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
