Transparent background

edit

OK, so I took 34 of the .png logos for the various Super Bowls (I didn't do some of the hard ones, but I did 34 of them, so that counts for something), and changed the white background to a transparent background. Then, I came here and removed the white background placed around the image, because it looks better like this with transparent backgrounds. True, it doesn't quite look as good on the few that I didn't mess with, but it looks better on the vast majority. I just thought it would be a good idea to tell the people who may care... -Platypus Man | Talk 04:04, 14 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Game time and weather

edit

Would it be possible to add parameters for each game's start time and weather conditions? Mdumas43073 (talk) 17:07, 26 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

This information is farther down in the "Game summary" section, "Box score" subsection using Template:Americanfootballbox. But it would be helpful to readers to also show the kickoff time (scheduled or actual) in this box since it appears at the top of the page; adding optional parameter "kickoff_time" (with displayed link to Kickoff time) after the "date" parameter would be great. Teams season record

edit

Parameter for record of teams in regular season? 71.146.15.241 (talk) 06:28, 14 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

These parameters (visitor_record and home_record) were added around 2007. However, just a couple minutes ago I added these parameters to the documentation here. Facts707 (talk) 07:40, 11 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

This seems to be overfilled with some information not appropriate for an infobox. Opinions? Infinite mission (talk) 04:09, 4 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Looks like you decided to remove several parameters. Because that change broke many articles, I've reverted it. The problem is that reference definitions are sometimes/often declared in the infobox parameters, and then re-used in the article. When the parameter disappears, the reference definition no longer enters the text stream of the article and leaves the article with undefined reference errors. Maybe some of the parameters should stay, maybe they could be deleted -- but if deleted, we have to embrace the work of fixing the affected articles.
Here is a list of articles that look like they were affected:
  • 1946 NFL Championship Game
  • 1947 NFL Championship Game
  • 1949 NFL Championship Game
  • 1953 NFL Championship Game
  • 1954 NFL Championship Game
  • 1955 NFL Championship Game
  • 1956 NFL Championship Game
  • 1957 NFL Championship Game
  • 1958 NFL Championship Game
  • 1960 American Football League Championship Game
  • 1960 NFL Championship Game
  • 1961 American Football League Championship Game
  • 1961 NFL Championship Game
  • 1962 American Football League Championship Game
  • 1962 NFL Championship Game
  • 1963 American Football League Championship Game
  • 1963 NFL Championship Game
  • 1964 American Football League Championship Game
  • 1964 NFL Championship Game
  • 1965 American Football League Championship Game
  • 1966 American Football League Championship Game
  • 1967 American Football League Championship Game
  • 1968 American Football League Championship Game
  • 1969 American Football League Championship Game
  • 1995 AFC Championship Game
  • 1998 NFC Championship Game
Maybe it's incomplete or inaccurate, but after reverting your change to this template, those articles seem to be in better shape. -- Mikeblas (talk) 22:42, 7 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Add Kickoff time after Date

edit

It would be helpful to readers to also show the kickoff time (scheduled or actual) in this box since it appears at the top of the page. Adding optional parameter "kickoff_time" (with displayed link to Kickoff time) after the "date" parameter would accomplish this. Facts707 (talk) 12:28, 26 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Proposal changes to Infobox

edit

Because there may be some contention in these proposals, I am placing them separately below for discussion before making any changes. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 16:23, 10 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

@ULPS, WikiOriginal-9, and Bagumba:, do you have any opinions on proposal 1? « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 14:40, 23 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Proposal 1

edit

Delete the |HOFers= parameter. This seems superfluous for the infobox, rarely has any connection to why the game was notable and is not static (i.e. it may take years to fully ascertain which HoFers played in a game). Infoboxes should summarize the articles, and HOFers are rarely if at all discussed in the body text. If it is just included in the infobox, it is almost always unsourced. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 16:23, 10 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Support - this change makes sense, and would comply with MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE. Hatman31 (he/him · talk · contribs) 19:29, 10 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Support: It's never really made sense to me that we listed whatever hall of famers played on a team during a given season. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:35, 18 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Support: I don't see a point to this ULPS (talkcontribs) 20:36, 23 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Support Per MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE's theme of the less the better. Mark a roster list in the body instead, if notable.—Bagumba (talk) 08:12, 25 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Comment: I have implemented this proposal. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 14:51, 25 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Oppose Seeing the Hall of Fame players gives you a quick and easy way to see who the notable players were in the game, and the NBA finals series always show it which is nice. Eg224 (talk) 22:35, 29 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Players can be integral to the game and not be in the Hall of Fame. Likewise, Hall of Famers could have been a part of the team for the game but did not play. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 23:42, 29 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Proposal 2

edit

For the |visitor= and |home= parameters, clarify in the template documentation that this field should only include a link to the team's page, not to the team's season page (i.e. [[Green Bay Packers]], not [[2024 Green Bay Packers season|Green Bay Packers]]). The name of the parameters imply that just the team should be stated, so hiding a link to the team's season article comes across as an Easter egg or unsuspecting target. Most articles on games already include background sections, often with hatnotes or links to each team's season. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 16:23, 10 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Support - I'd also like to see this applied to prose as well, but I think I share a minority opinion on that. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 17:07, 10 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Support. ULPS (talkcontribs) 18:32, 10 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Oppose In an article about a specific game, I think the specific team season link is what readers are looking for. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 20:09, 10 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Just to clarify, I am proposing clarifying that the specific team link should be used, not the specific team season link. Did you mean to oppose, or did you mean to add the word season into your comment? « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 15:45, 18 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, I knew that's what you meant. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 16:49, 18 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
WikiOriginal-9, sorry, what I meant was your comment sounds like you support the proposal, but you placed oppose as you stance. Just clarifying whether you support the proposal or not. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 19:41, 18 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Oppose The status quo at Super Bowls and entries at List of nicknamed NFL games and plays that I sampled is to link to the season-specific pages. This seems in the spirit of MOS:SPECIFICLINK. EGG seems a bit misplaced, as it's not totally unexpected, so it's more a matter of project principles and style being consistent to readers.—Bagumba (talk) 00:05, 11 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
