Flagathlete
editI'm thinking that using the {{flagathlete}} template will make this listing methid more consistent with the rest of Wikipedia. It would be quite easy to change I think...
We would have to change:
|{{{year}}} | style="text-align: left;" |{{#if:{{{nat| }}}|{{flagicon|{{{nat}}}|{{{natvar|}}}}}}} |{{{name}}} {{#if:{{{other| }}}|''({{{other}}})''}} | style="text-align: left;" |{{#if:{{{teamnat| }}}|{{flagicon|{{{teamnat}}}|{{{teamnatvar|}}}}}}} |{{{team}}}
to something like
|{{{year}}} | style="text-align: left;" colspan="2" |{{flagathlete|{{{name}}}|{{{nat| }}}|{{#if:{{{natvar| }}}|{{{natvar}}}}}}} {{#if:{{{other| }}}|''({{{other}}})''}} | style="text-align: left;" |{{#if:{{{teamnat| }}}|{{flagicon|{{{teamnat}}}|{{{teamnatvar|}}}}}}} |{{{team}}}
I don't want to put this in though straight away in case it breaks something somewhere and I haven't noticed! Regards, SeveroTC 20:31, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- Will that avoid the use of Template:Cycling pw mid? (colspan="2") I don't know exactly how this code works, so if we an avoid 'pw mid' I think this change would be very helpful. What is flagathlete used for?Drunt (talk) 12:06, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
No it wouldn't do that but I have some ideas on how to get rid of that template which I will play around with. Basically {{flagathlete}} is a way to demonstrate a person's nationality that many different sports use. It displays their flag, then name, then 3 letter IOC code which is linked to the country, so that when you hover your mouse over it, it displays which country it means. For example:
{{flagathlete|[[Danilo Di Luca]]|ITA}}
produces:
Danilo Di Luca (ITA)
and for olden flags:
{{flagathlete|[[Alfredo Binda]]|ITA|1861}}
produces
Alfredo Binda (ITA)
This is useful for telling like flags apart. The good thing is, we already have all the needed information in the articles, so to display it differently we would only need to make a few small changes.... I think. I could be missing something, however, and come to break everything! The same principle could be applied to team nationalities also. SeveroTC 23:18, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
- Looks fine. Right now it's probably a bit confusing for countries with similar flags(e.g. Russia, Serbia Slovenia Slovakia). I can help you check a few articles to see that it's properly working. Drunt (talk) 15:55, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
I've been playing around with it a bit and its causing a problem if a nationality is not selected. I will get around this but it will be a few more days yet :) SeveroTC 09:45, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
The other thing is it doesnt align the names. Not sure if this is a problem or not. SeveroTC 09:49, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Request for "reason" option in {{cycling past winner no race}}
editI like this template. To improve it, I would like to request an extra reason option for the no "no race" template. To explain why there was no race in that year. For backwards compatibility, if no reason is given, it should just render like before, so
{{Cycling past winner start}} {{Cycling past winner no race|year=1943}} {{Cycling past winner end}}
should give
|
If a reason is given, I propose to display it in the "Team" column, so
{{Cycling past winner start}} {{Cycling past winner no race|year=1943|reason=World War II}} {{Cycling past winner end}}
should give
|
I tried to do it myself, but all my tests in the sandbox failed with the #if-template. Maybe I am not smart enough... If this is a stupid request, don't hesitate to say so. If this is an easy request, would somebody please implement it? --EdgeNavidad (talk) 09:41, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
- Must have missed this at the time. It's fairly easy to do, I will just need to spend ten minutes working out where best to place it in the line! I will do it later today or tomorrow and then update all of the documentation. SeveroTC 11:09, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
Extensions
editWe currently have {{Cycling past winner rider2}} for instances where there were two winners in an exceptional circumstance. The next steps are for to provide a template for when there were two winners as a matter of course, for example six-day races and two-up time trials. I'm not sure how to deal with this, because on the one hand I would like to place the riders names side-by-side, but this doesn't work well for sorting the names into alphabetical order.
We also need a template for when there was a team winner rather than an individual (representing a team). In this case, what should we put in the "rider" column?
Winner disqualified?
editHow is one supposed to enter "no winner" in case the former "winner" has been disqualified, but no new winner has been selected (as for instance Leonardo Bertagnolli, "winner" of Tour du Haut Var 2006, who was disqualified from 2003 to 2011 by UCI in 2014 - to make it worse the article uses Template:Sortname as well - it is hard for an amateur like me to edit and correct a table like that!) - And how do I add references or a note to "No winner"? I would like to explain why there is no winner, but can't. Episcophagus (talk) 18:52, 15 May 2019 (UTC)
