Documentation

edit

{{editprotected}} Can somebody move the documentation of this template to a subpage? Thanks in advance. Tinlinkin (talk) 06:13, 7 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Request: Don't include color: if parameter 3 not specified

edit

{{editprotected}} Currently the code uses color:{{{3}}}, so if no third parameter is specified, the style tag contains a literal {{{3}}}. Would someone please fix that? Thanks!

Actually, all three parameters need to be optional in my opinion. This would be done by changing "{{{1}}}" to "" and doing the same thing for all three parameters.--Dudemanfellabra (talk) 21:17, 20 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
  Done. Of course, you'll still need to put the | to keep the parameters in their correct places, e.g. {{Color box||Hello|blue}} for  Hello . — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 22:39, 20 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Cross-reference needed

edit

Please add a "see also" link to the documentation, referring to the template {{colorbox}} (note no space) for an alternative version of this template using gray borders instead of black. •••Life of Riley (TC) 01:33, 11 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

  Done The documentation is not locked; I added in the link as you requested. --Dudemanfellabra (talk) 01:39, 11 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Two colours in the same box

edit

Hi there. Is it possible to produce a box that is half one colour and half another? I would like to start using this template to help indicate rank for judoka in the article infobox, and sixth to eight degree 'black belts' actually wear a red and white belt. CanadianJudoka (talk) 23:42, 3 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

This is for the diagonal split. I'd been trying to find it myself! Frank12 (talk) 18:04, 14 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Please replace the newline after the TfM notice with a space. It's causing strange line breaks in a lot of places (see the infobox of California Institute of Technology. Jc86035 (talk • contribs) Use {{re|Jc86035}} to reply to me 13:46, 23 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Can someone add <nowiki></nowiki> to the deletion template? It is causing the boxes in the university and university athletics infoboxes to be a mess. If there is a reason as to why this shouldn't be done, I'd be happy to learn. Thanks. Corky | Chat? 17:05, 25 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

  Not done: The notice is there to attract attention to the TfD discussion, and for good reasons: first, if it weren't there, and the template suddenly changed its behaviour - or even was deleted - people would complain about not being pre-warned, and rightly so. Second, participation at TfD is not as great as it perhaps should be, so the more people that are made aware, the better. If a great number of different people express a convincing opinion - one way or the other - in a short period of time, the discussion will be closed and the notice removed. --Redrose64 (talk) 18:44, 25 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Please noinclude the TfM notice. There have already been several complaints on the TfM page, it is completely irrelevant to readers, and it has been stuck there for several days now (enough for anyone to notice). The only comments it is attracting to the TfD nomination are complaints calling for its removal. Jc86035 (talk • contribs) Use {{re|Jc86035}} to reply to me 11:38, 27 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

  Done - in this case, the bad outweigh the good. If greater participation is sought, perhaps the proposal could be advertised at WP:VP/T; the general readership is uninterested in the merging of three nearly-identical colour box templates. Alakzi (talk) 12:05, 27 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Alakzi: Please revert. If people who actually use the template are denied the opportunity to participate, the only people who discuss it will be one or two of the TfD regulars, and yet another TfD will be rubberstamped through on the nod. --Redrose64 (talk) 12:10, 27 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
People who use the template have had six days to be made aware of the consolidation proposal. The continued defacement of thousands of articles is hard to justify, especially where it concerns a template so trivial in nature. Your portrayal of TfD "regulars" as the proverbial hive mind is uncalled for. Besides, there has been vigorous opposition to (part of) the proposal; your concern appears to be unfounded. Revised code incorporating |border= parameter, per WP:Templates for discussion/Log/2015 July 27#Template:Color box:
<span style="background-color:{{{1|}}}; color:{{{3|}}}; border:1px solid #000000{{{border|#000000}}}; text-align:center;">{{#if:{{{2|}}}|&nbsp;{{{2}}}&nbsp;|&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;}}</span>

  Done I made the correction. Thanks Useddenim for showing the clear consensus in the request, hope I made the correct change. Qed237 (talk) 21:11, 9 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Useddenim: May I suggest changing the template documentation, perhaps also including the merge. Qed237 (talk) 21:13, 9 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

'Maroon' works and 'maroon' does not?

edit

I notice one color box which had "maroon" displayed white, but it worked when I set it to "Maroon" with a capitalized M... WhisperToMe (talk) 13:58, 4 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

 maroon  {{color box|maroon|'''maroon'''|white|border=maroon}}
 Maroon  {{color box|Maroon|'''Maroon'''|White|border=Maroon}}
 maroon  {{color box||'''maroon'''|maroon|border=maroon}}
 Maroon  {{color box||'''Maroon'''|Maroon|border=Maroon}}
Looks like it works just fine. Are you sure you didn't just mis-type marron by mistake? Useddenim (talk) 16:35, 4 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Useddenim: I think I figured it out. There was an extra space which caused the color box to malfunction. See this, Compare with this, and now see Pharr-San Juan-Alamo High School WhisperToMe (talk) 12:53, 5 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
