Additional parameters
I was creating my own template at Template:Cite cd notes when I was pointed to this template. Would it be OK if I requested a few extra features so that my template can be deleted?
- optional param for title of the notes themselves, as opposed the the overall album. Sometimes the notes have a different title from the album, especially in classical/jazz releases.
- optional params for first, last of author of the notes, where this is given.
- optional URL, where the notes are available online.
Here's an example: Last, First (Year). "NotesTitle." CD liner notes for Title by Bandname. Place: Publisher. PublisherID.

Thanks for implementing this! You guys are awesome. Grover cleveland 17:00, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
Language field
Like in Template:Cite book and Template:Cite web I would propose to add a field "language" to be filled when the album notes are written in another language than English. – IbLeo (talk) 07:40, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
- I agree, this should be added. Kariteh (talk) 11:30, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
pages= / page=
"pages=" is not handled the same in this template as it is in the other {{cite whatever}} templates: Cite album-notes does not prefix the page number with "p." or "pp." Also, the other templates accept "pages=" or "page=", but this template accepts "pages=" only.
Can this template be adjusted to make it more consistent with the others? I may have a stab at this, but I am concerned about one issue: the documentation encourages users to specify the "p." or "pp." as data, i.e., "pages=p. 6" so altering the template will munge existing entries. Perhaps a new version should be created with a new name. Otherwise, 1500 (or so) existing entries will need to be checked. — John Cardinal (talk) 00:50, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
- Update: Working with Rich Farmbrough, I've added a "page=" parameter and updated the "pages=" parameter. Via Rich's {{Page numbers}} template, the {{cite AV media notes}} template will work properly for a variety of "pages=" values. So, for example, "pages=1" will produce "p. 1", "pages=3-5" will produce "pp. 3-5". The template will handle existing uses where the editor manually supplied a prefix, such as "pages=p. 2", which will produce "p. 2". Using {{Page numbers}} avoids having to change existing entries.
- I updated the documentation to describe the "page=" parameter and to remove the recommendation that editors add their own prefix. — John Cardinal (talk) 18:35, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
Removing Musicbrainz parameter
A discussion at WikiProject Albums (here) has raised the question of why this template includes a parameter for linking to the Musicbrainz article on an album. Citation templates should only contain external links to online copies of the source being cited, but Musicbrainz doesn't have online copies of liner notes so the link isn't fulfilling this purpose. No one at the albums project seems to know why the template links to Musicbrainz. Looking at the template's history, it appears to have been added by DantheCowMan (talk · contribs) in February 2007. I will drop him a note on his talk page to see if he would like to explain the value of this link. Unless anyone objects, I plan to remove the parameter in 1 week. --IllaZilla (talk) 16:33, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
- I'd say go for it. As you said, there appears to be no real reason for it to be in here. — Huntster (t @ c) 20:13, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
- Yep, remove it. It annoys me every time someone new uses it thinking it's reliable. At one of my FACs, it wasn't even considered suitable for WP:EL. RB88 (T) 15:48, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
- Done. --IllaZilla (talk) 23:52, 14 October 2009 (UTC)

Update to citation/core
Update to use {{citation/core}} is now in sandbox. This makes the template compliant with Citation Style 1 and adds all supported features. ---— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 13:27, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
