  • New enough, long enough, neutral, hook referenced. Some might object to the no. of pics, slide-shows etc, but not me. Earwig 53%, but only finds quotes and "the President of the United States". All the refs for the hook say Kalakaua had the first "state dinner", but I suppose it isn't a state visit without that. Link Hawaii in the hook? Johnbod (talk) 14:00, 10 November 2016 (UTC)
I think we should omit the word "foreign" because it is redundant. See the definition of a state visit in the article. Surtsicna (talk) 14:14, 17 November 2016 (UTC)
What you say is obviously true, but none the less I think the hook reads more naturally as it is, and avoids a sort of mental booby-trap where people might think "What about the President?". You will see the media is currently full of "redundant" "foreigns" re the change of president. Johnbod (talk) 18:04, 17 November 2016 (UTC)
Really? People would wonder if the US presidents visited the US? I must be overeestimating our readers' intelligence. Surtsicna (talk) 21:53, 17 November 2016 (UTC)
They might be confused for half a moment, however intelligent. A lot of editors do overestimate the intelligence, or age, of many of our readers. Johnbod (talk) 04:42, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
On reflection, the caption would be better re-arranged to: "Kalakaua of Hawaii is received by Ulysses Grant during his 1874 state visit". Johnbod (talk) 18:08, 17 November 2016 (UTC)
The hook uses the word "state" three times which seems excessive. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 06:48, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
Only twice, no? Johnbod (talk) 13:07, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for noticing, Cwmhiraeth. I've fixed it by replacing "head of state" with "leader". LavaBaron (talk) 20:27, 26 November 2016 (UTC)
