Meena Kandasamy
edit... that Meena Kandasamy wrote her first poetry at the age of 17?

- It was a blunder. I completely forgot that the prose size hasn't reached five times, while nominating the article. It needs a little bit of expansion to get that five fold. Hence I request you to give me some time to expand it. —Vensatry (Ping me) 07:17, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
- I can't imagine it will be possible to expand it 5 times its current size. It is already quite comprehensive. That is the problem with DYK, unfortunately. Sionk (talk) 13:23, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
- Prior to expanding the article, the prose size stood at
694649 chars. I can see if I can bring it somewhere close to 3500 chars. —Vensatry (Ping me) 13:58, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

Tagline? what are you actually referring to? —Vensatry (Ping me) 18:19, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
- I imagine that "tagline" means "hook": someone starting to write poetry at age 17 is not at all remarkable. Can you suggest an ALT1 hook? Also, at the moment, the article is still not quite at 5x, since expansion from 649 prose characters requires 3245, and the article is at 3106. Once you've added another 139 characters and an ALT1 hook is in place, a new reviewer can be requested. Thanks! BlueMoonset (talk) 02:22, 9 March 2013 (UTC)
- Article expanded. How about
- ALT1: ... that Meena Kandasamy was invited to participate in the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa in 2009 as the youngest person to represent India? —Vensatry (Ping me) 05:46, 9 March 2013 (UTC)
- New reviewer needed now that article meets 5x expansion and has new hook. BlueMoonset (talk) 06:08, 9 March 2013 (UTC)

- Expansion length is now well past 5x and the article passes other DYK criteria for referencing, neutrality, etc. Soink's hook is the best but there is an oddity with the line in the article. It is written as "first Indian woman writer, writing Dalit poetry in English" with the comma after woman writer. This gives the impression of two separate clauses (the first of which is obviously false) when, as Soink's hook presents it, it should be a single statement that Kandasamy was merely the first woman Dalit poet writing in English. It is written the exact same way in the source with the added comma. Now I'm incline to just chalk this up to a typo but unfortunately none of the other sources make this same "first" claim.
- I did find a separate source where an interviewer tells Kandasamy "I think you are the first Indian woman writer writing Dalit Poetry in English" (direct pdf download link of Vol 4. No. 4 2008 is blacklisted on Wikipedia for some reason) though Kandasamy doesn't explicitly confirm this in her reply. Again, I'm inclined to extend good faith that this was just a typo in the source that was cut and pasted into the article but considering the fact that we want to build a hook around it, I would prefer that the author at least take another look to confirm that this was the case. - In that case, I would prefer *ALT2: ... that Meena Kandasamy was the youngest person ever to represent India as a writer-in-residence at the University of Iowa's International Writing Program in 2009? —Vensatry (Ping me) 12:31, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
