Wolfgang Becker (director, born 1954)Wolfgang Becker – We have two articles on people named "Wolfgang Becker", both directors. Seems Wolfgang Becker (director, born 1954) is the primary topic per WP:PT1 as his article receives approximately 20x more pageviews over the last 12 months versus the director born 1910: https://pageviews.wmcloud.org/?project=en.wiki.x.io&platform=all-access&agent=user&redirects=0&start=2023-12&end=2024-11&pages=Wolfgang_Becker_(director,_born_1954)%7CWolfgang_Becker_(director,_born_1910)

Suggest moving Wolfgang Becker (director, born 1954) to Wolfgang Becker, and replace the disambiguation page with a hatnote (WP:ONEOTHER). RachelTensions (talk) 15:11, 19 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Oppose Grimes2 (talk) 20:30, 20 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Why? RachelTensions (talk) 21:01, 20 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Because both were film directors and there is a risk of confusion. Both have negligible pageviews. Grimes2 (talk) 21:07, 20 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Does putting them both behind a disambiguation page alleviate any more confusion that a hatnote wouldn't solve just as well, if not better?
Both articles are relatively low traffic but a consistent 20:1 pageview advantage for one over the other isn't exactly negligible. RachelTensions (talk) 21:22, 20 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Side note: since both Wolfgang Beckers we have articles for are directors, it doesn't seem like including "director" as a disambiguator actually achieves anything. Would it make sense to remove it for Wolfgang Becker (director, born 1910) and just disambiguate by year of birth? RachelTensions (talk) 15:29, 19 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Oppose, there are many more namesakes, see de:Wolfgang Becker. --NiTen (talk) 13:20, 21 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment: Do me a favour and, whatever the decision, don't move while on the Main page! The duration there is unpredictable, sometimes RD articles stay just 24 hours, but the last one has been up since 14 December. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:00, 19 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
He is no longer listed on the Main page. I don't care which way. I have a strong opinion whenever no redirect will be left, but here understand both ways. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:48, 23 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. Both men have a extensive body of work, but neither is sufficiently renowned in the English-speaking world for one to be primary over the other. The existing Wolfgang Becker disambiguation page best serves users. —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 02:34, 21 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. Both are relevant directors and as the director born in 1954 was still active and died this year, his article currently has a higher number of pageviews. Please als keep in mind that there are way more relevant people named Wolfgang Becker, see de:Wolfgang Becker, so more English articles on the namesakes will probably be created in the future. Wolfgang Becker being a disambiguation is the best solution. Best, --NiTen (talk) 13:16, 21 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
The pageview stats cited stop at the end of November, so they do not include any view spike from when he died in December. RachelTensions (talk) 14:01, 21 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
It's a bit crystal bally to keep a disambiguation page around for only two people, based on what might be created in the future.
What's not crystal bally, however, is the pageview stats from German wiki. Even with all those extra Wolfgang Beckers that exist at German Wiki, the director born 1954 still receives more views than the rest of them combined, and would therefore likely qualify as the primary topic per WP:PT1: massviews for all Wolfgang Beckers at German Wikipedia. I have no reason to believe it would be any different if all of those were created at enwiki.
If someone wants to create more Wolfgang Becker articles at enwiki they can just re-create the disambiguation page, but until then there's no use keeping it around, and given the pageview history at German wiki it's unlikely that any of them would usurp the director born 1954 as primary topic.
I will reiterate that this is for the last 12 months ending November 30th, so it does not include any of the post-death spike. RachelTensions (talk) 03:25, 23 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
