Flowery

edit

Some of the wording seems a bit flowery. The brawl in the history section and the dances in the modern day section certainly need to be addressed. I can't find any other sources with similar information.--Greyduk 21:36, 5 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

History

edit

In addition to the above comment, and since Greyduk posted above, the history section has accumulated more unreferenced claims, including a rather tangential one regarding Theodore Roosevelt. A quick check of Roosevelt's article shows no evidence of this event. Please add sources, or your contributions will be removed.Ltvine 00:43, 20 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I know it sounds kind of flowery, but I can't find a source to cite it. I remember hearing the story in the late 1970's when I was living in Montana. I had forgotten about the story and then 15 years later, I heard the same story from a long time resident of a nearby town. It is certainly a thing of lore and that is why it was stated, according to lore. I think keep the citation needed and maybe someone can come along that can properly cite it.

While I can understand your hope that someone out there can provide the source for the material, the burden is on the editor who posts the claim not on someone who might come along. For more information about this topic please read the policies relating to verifiability, you might also find useful tools for citing sources at wikipedia:citing sources. It will take some research on your part to find a written account of the story to cite but that's really what you'll need to do if you expect the claim to have a long life in the article. Certainly there's an account of this incident in the local newspaper which would suffice as a reliable resource for the purposes of Wikipedia. Ask your friend to go over to the office of the Wibaux Pioneer-Gazette in Wibaux, and make a copy of the story and give you the citation. Or, you could e-mail them directly and ask at wibaux@midrivers.com. But in the end its every editor's responsibility to backup their contributions with sources. Otherwise, it will likely be removed.
(And the same goes for the other folks who have been posting unsourced claims to the article. Do your homework.)
Good luck in your research, Che1959.
