This article contains a translation of Пелевин, Виктор Олегович from ru.wikipedia. |
Pelevin was an aeronautical Engineer
editDuring an interview he talked about his study as aeronautical enginner and not elettromechanical.
This article doesn't mention the collection of short stories "The Blue Lantern". One ISBN is 0811214346 — Hippietrail 18:33, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
Pelevin is not a buddhist.
Pelevin is not a Buddhist, or is he?
editI'd like to see a proof confirming wheather Pelevin is or is not a Buddhist. The current version of the article does not provide any support for the above statement. Therefore, it should be removed, I think.
From reading his books it seems more likely that Pelevin is either agnostic or atheist though I could be wrong.
- from his interview on artbomb:
First of all, I can't really say I study Buddhism. I'm not a Buddhologist. I can't even say I'm a Buddhist in the sense of rigidly belonging to a confession or a sect, following rituals, et cetera.
- I returned the statement:
- Pelevin frequents budhist monasteries and introduces into his work concepts of Zen Budhism (e.g. Buddha's Little Finger/Чапаев и Пустота).
- It does not say that Pelevin is a proper Budhist (observing the rites etc.). Maybe "frequents" is an overstatement.
- I agree with you that it's definitely an overstatement. That's why you should NOT include it in the text of the article.--C1010 04:49, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
According to his biographers, he has visited some [you mean Russian Orthodox?] monasteries (probably in Russia). As for "original research" on Pelevin compare: Игорь Гетманский Загадки и отгадки Виктора Пелевина (Igor Getmanskij: Riddles and solutions of Viktor Pelevin). Getmanskij calls Pelevin a "messiah of Budhism" and states:
- "...он [Пелевин] преподносит буддизм как н е г а т и в н о е, а не позитивное учение." (...he [Pelevin] presents Buddhism as a negative, not positive, teaching). Please read the article you site fully, for I think there may be some wishful thinking on your part and rush to conclusions. Besides, whatever Getmanskij says is secondary, it's just his personal opionion about Pelevin and his works, and probably is worth as much as your opinion or mine.--C1010 04:49, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
- "Мессия. Буддизм... Вот литературная суперзадача Виктора Пелевина — донести до читателя весть о буддистском освобождении сознания и основные положения буддизма. (Messiah. Budhism ... That is the literary supertask of Victor Pelevin - bring to the readers news about budhist liberation of cognition and the tenets of Budhism)". MGTom 02:07, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
Empire V
editIf I'm not wrong, there are some criticism towards Christianism on Buddha's.
- Though I think you can say that, it's not that simple. --C1010 10:08, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
Anyway, you two speak Russian?Have you read Empire V?What did you think?Just stumbled by a russian site in english an reporter says its a terrible book(or manuscript, or whatever you call it)
- If by "terrible" you mean dumb, without ideas, poorly written, then I would have to say no. If you liked Chapaev/Buddha then you're going to like Empire V, I think. This book is controversial, sure, but it has ideas and some depth, perhaps enough to drown. --C1010 10:08, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
Also, article could mention Empire V case, right?User:IP
- About Christianism, it was just a comment.
- I loved "Buddha's", so I'll like it then.Can you give a synopsis for the book? User:IP
- I'm reluctant to say much and give you yet another poorly written annotation that spoils the impression. The less one knows about the book the better, in my view. But if you have to know, Empire V is about vampires, Pelevin style.--C1010 14:19, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
- It is more about money than about vampires.--Umnik 18:37, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
- It's more about lifestyle and feelings of 90s generation in Russia, meanwhile there are a lot of allusions to both late-Soviet era and modern times. And first of all, main novel's character is not nineteen years old as he declares :)--85.140.44.212 14:13, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Similar Western authors?

I only read Omon Ra, the English translation - but Kurt Vonnegut did come to mind. Certainly seems to have his wry humor. Bookbrad (talk) 03:14, 19 October 2013 (UTC)
