The U.S. Coast Guard, the successor agency, spells it "United States Life-Saving Service." We should keep that as the rticle and merge any additional material from here. - Dalbury 19:23, 29 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

What I should have said is merge the two exisitng articles into one called "United States Life-Saving Service." - Dalbury 23:14, 29 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Appendices

edit
When the appendices sections are collectively as large or larger than content in the body of an article it does not look natural or appealing. A solution is to trim excessive links.
  • See also: Eleven links
  • Further reading: Six links
  • External links: Nine links
The links under "Further reading" appear on-point and not unduly excessive. There are links in the "See also" section that might possibly be trimmed or incorporated into the article. Over-linking is covered in more than one place but certainly under "What Wikipedia is not" and there are guidelines for the WP:External links. Two or three might be acceptable and four is beginning to become over-linked, however, nine links become a cultivated link farm. Any excessive links that cannot be incorporated into the article needs to be trimmed. This generally becomes more important with a better class assessment. Otr500 (talk) 15:30, 9 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Name of article

edit

I know it's grammatically correct to have hyphen in the title, but the actual name of this agency in the infobox logo has no hyphen. Neither is there a hyphen at The US Life Saving Service Heritage Association. How and why did a hyphen up here, and per WP:COMMONNAME, should not the title be this agency's actual given name? --Tenebrae (talk) 20:22, 3 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Because the agency was named the Life-Saving Service. See, for example: An Act to create the Coast Guard by combining therein the existing Life-Saving Service and Revenue-Cutter Service. - Donald Albury 20:39, 3 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

life saving on the coast was started in Hull Ma not Cohasset. Get your history right. Cohasset residents wouldnt save their own children.even back then. Do your research and get it right.((ipunsigned|2601:18E:4101:D6F0:2C28:10B2:7B05:88ED}}
