Workforce diversity

Hi again! I'd like to re-submit a request to mention UHF's $100 million investment in diversifying the health care workforce. In addition to those shared previously,[1][2] I found other sources for verification. I propose adding the following:

  • In 2022, UHF pledged $100 million to fund scholarships and workforce development programs focused on increasing ethnic and racial diversity within the health care industry over 10 years.[3][4][5][6]

Can editors please update the article with preferred text and sources appropriately? Thanks! Barbara at UHG (talk) 17:26, 1 August 2023 (UTC)

Done: I only used the Star Tribune and Biz Journal as references to avoid WP:CITATIONOVERKILL. Regards, Xan747 (talk) 22:52, 1 August 2023 (UTC)
@Xan747: Thank you for reviewing this request and updating the article. Do you mind relocating the text to the Foundations section, since it's about the United Health Foundation specifically? Barbara at UHG (talk) 22:06, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
Done: I almost put it there to begin with, but it wasn't clear that it belonged there. Anyway, it's fixed now. Xan747 (talk) 22:21, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

America's Health Rankings

On behalf of UHG, I'd like to submit a request to add mention of America's Health Rankings to this article. (You'll notice the America's Health Rankings article mentions the United Health Foundation.) I suggest adding the following to the Foundations section:

References

  1. ^ Harding, Anne (December 6, 2011). "Vermont, New Hampshire top list of healthiest states" – via Health.

Health magazine says "The United Health Foundation has been publishing the annual state-by-state rankings since 1990, in conjunction with the American Public Health Association (APHA) and the Partnership for Prevention, a coalition of government, business, and nonprofit organizations dedicated to health promotion."

There are plenty of other sources about America's Health Rankings reports. Examples:

  • this source says "The source is America's Health Rankings, by the United Health Foundation and the American Public Health Association"
  • this source says "The United Health Foundation released its annual scorecard of state health statistics this week... America’s Health Rankings compiled its report in partnership with the American Public Health Association, and with an advisory group of leading health experts."

Editors can decide which sources and text are best, but my goal is to add mention of one of UHF's primary activities.

I would also ask editors to consider adding subsections for United Health Foundation and UnitedHealthcare Children's Foundation (under Foundations) to avoid confusion. Thanks! Barbara at UHG (talk) 18:16, 8 August 2023 (UTC)

Implemented The proposed information has been placed in the See also section. Regarding the difference between the Foundation and the Children's Foundation, since this information is in two separate paragraphs, the difference between the two should be easily discernible. Revenue text in introduction

Oh behalf of UHG, I'd like to submit a request to update the following (unsourced) sentence in the introduction: "UnitedHealthcare revenues comprise 78% of the Group's overall revenue."

Issue
  • This text is accurate (UHC's $249.7 billion is approximately 78% of UHG's $324.1 billion), but unsourced and misleading because it suggests that Optum is a much smaller part of UHG's business. If you look at page 30 of this Form 10-K from 2022, you will see that UnitedHealthcare and Optum have nearly equal earnings from operations (Optum: $14.1 billion; UHC: $14.4 billion).

To give readers a more balanced picture of UHG, I propose updating the introduction by adding the text: "Optum and UnitedHealthcare had roughly equal earnings from operations in 2022."

Issue

News outlets have noted how Optum has been a major growth engine for UHG. For example, Fortune magazine has said:

  • "UHG has since amassed a workforce of some 70,000 physicians and an untold number of advanced practice clinicians that work for Optum Health. That business complements two others—pharmacy benefit management (OptumRx) and data services (Optum Insight)—that now constitute Optum, the company’s $186 billion health services division. Optum has been bolstered by a series of audacious deals (see the below graphic), and analysts muse about it one day dwarfing UnitedHealthcare (UHC), UHG’s bread-and-butter insurance business."

The current Wikipedia introduction mentions Optum in passing. Perhaps editors have elected to include less detail since Optum has a separate article, but I think a bit more credit should be given to Optum as a source of recent growth for UHG, especially considering the business is mentioned at least 15 times in the article body below.

I hope editors find this suggestion helpful. Thank you! Barbara at UHG (talk) 18:12, 21 August 2023 (UTC)

Implemented I've changed this sentence as requested, but please note that information in the lead section is supposed to be referenced later in the article, not in the lead, per WP:CITELEAD. Regards,  Spintendo  19:50, 24 August 2023 (UTC)
